All 3 finalists had put in a tremendous amount of laps, contesting the OFFC, Ontario Formula Ford Championship, and the Formula Tour 1600 Series, against very tough competition, then sat through an intensive interview process with the Team Canada Scholarship Selection committee. All 3 candidates did very well in the interview process which made the final decision even more difficult.
"It has been an extremely difficult decision, but the six member panel is confident in their choice but also knows that anyone of the three fine young men would have been a great representative for Team Canada." commented one of the three founders of Team Canada Brian Graham.
While not being selected, the two runners up, Michael Adams and Nathan Blok, certainly don't come away empty handed, they will both receive test days with the first half of the day in a Pro F2000 car and then move to a Pro Star Mazda for the second half of the day. “Michael and Nathan, we suspect, have at least another year in FF, as well, many of the original candidates selected will also be back for 2012.” Stated Dave Matkovich of Team Canada. “This scholarship is all about learning and developing as a driver who is hoping to make racing a career, not necessarily about Team Canada and our selected drivers going over to Brands Hatch with the sole focus of landing on the podium, sure, If that happens it’s a bonus, and yes, we’re going over there to try and win, but learning and developing is the key, and is why we were also very excited about putting together the consolation prize in the 2L and Star Mazda for the runners up!”

MOSPORT: Fan Appreciation Night this Saturday at Mosport Speedway
BOWMANVILLE, ON - Mosport Speedway will bring down the curtain on an action-packed 2011 Saturday Night Stock Car Racing season with the eagerly anticipated Fan Appreciation Night on September 10.
This will be the second Fan Appreciation Night at the half-mile paved oval this year. It will give all the new and returning fans an opportunity to head down on track and meet all of the teams and drivers during an extended intermission break. Children will receive autographed hero cards, treat bags given out by the driver's and much more.
The full line-up of racing will include the return of the Techtonix Open-Wheeled Modifieds and Ontario Pro Challenge along with Mosport's three home divisions, the Pure Stocks, Bob's Towing Sportsman and Late Models as the season long battles for the championships will be decided on the final night of nose-to-tail racing.
Defending champion Jim Rossiter, who made the successful switch from Modifieds to the Late Model class in 2010 will be trying to catch Port Perry driver Todd Delisle who holds a slim lead. Mosport veteran Dwight Brown will be looking to use the momentum from last week to move up the leaderboard as he chases down the driver's at the top.
It's been a back-and-forth tussle at the top of the Bob's Towing Sportsman division and could come down to the very last race of the season to crown a champion. Former Mosport champions John Baker Jr. and Bill Northam are separated by just 12 points.
In the popular Pure Stock division, Whitby native Kevin Hinds has a commanding lead as he looks to secure his first championship. His consistent top finishes throughout the 2011 season has given him a total of 481 points, 48 more than his nearest competitor.
Redbeard's Sports will be the night's Corporate Sponsor. They have three giant locations in Barrie, Belleville and Kingston. Redbeard's will be holding a tent sale at the Speedway as well.

Rain Postpones Cornwall Season Finale; Doiron Looking to End the Season With Strong Finishes in Upcoming DIRTcar Series Races

It was set to be a Labor Day Weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified team. They had two events scheduled with a rare Thursday night event at Mohawk Raceway, a 50 lap Frenchie’s Chevrolet American Revolution Series event, and Sunday was the season finale at Cornwall Speedway, which featured a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series event.
On Thursday night at MIR, Doiron started the night with the usual qualifying heat race, and he started from the sixth position. At the end of the eight lap race, Doiron had moved up to third place, qualifying for the 50 lap main event. After returning to his pit area after the qualifier, heavy rain began to fall, and lasted for about 20 minutes. It delayed the events by about 2 hours, but the show continued. The extra time gave Doiron and his team time to make some changes to the car in preperation for the 50 lap feature. Doiron started from outside of the seventh row in 14th place. On lap eight, Doiron was involved in a minor incident on the track and had to restart the race from the tail of the field. At the checkered flag, Doiron was scored in 16th place.
Cornwall Speedway has been having a tough time as of late battling with Mother Nature. The last two weeks have been lost due to rain, and the forecast for Sunday called for even more rain. The rain held off for much of the day though, and by race time it looked like they might just be able to get the race in. The night started off with time trials and Doiron turned the fastest time in his group, giving him a front row starting spot for his qualifying heat race. Unfortunately, Mother Nature returned just before the heat races were to start, and once again, Cornwall Speedway officials were forced to postpone their final event of the season. The qualifying heats and 125 lap main event will now take place on Sunday, September 25th at 2pm. Doiron will be looking to have a great finish, and celebrate his birthday at Cornwall Speedway.
Doiron and his team will have the weekend off this coming weekend, and will return to action on Friday, September 16th at Mohawk Raceway for their Mr. DIRTcar Series race. The following week is the rescheduled race at Cornwall on Sunday, September 25th, and then they will end the season at Brockville on Saturday, October 15th.

In DIRTcar racing, the final weekend of points racing for local tracks end on Labor Day Weekend, and Luke Whitteker and his Whitteker Motorsports team had hoped to have a good run at both Autodrome Granby and Cornwall Speedway, his weekly tracks this season. His point position at both tracks had already been decided, but Whitteker was looking to post his first victory of the season.
Whitteker started out Friday night’s events at Granby with time trials, and he posted the fifth fastest time in his group. He moved up one spot to fourth after his 10 lap heat race. In the 100 lap main event, he started from eighth place and moved up quickly getting as high as fourth at one time before getting shuffled out of the top ten. Whitteker continued to fight back, and at the checkered flag he finished back in eighth where he had started. Whitteker ended the season ninth overall in track points at Autodrome Granby.
With rain the past two weeks at Cornwall, and a Sunday forecast for even more rain, the chances of getting in the 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series race at Cornwall looked bleak. The rain stayed away for much of the day, and by race time, the sun was still shining and it appeared they just may get the show in. Whitteker posted the third fastest time in his time trial group and would have started his 8 lap qualifier from third place. However, the rain that had stayed away earlier had returned, forcing Cornwall Speedway officials to cancel. A rain date is currently being looked at, but has not been announced at this time. Whitteker finished the season at Cornwall sixth in overall track points.
With the final week of regular track points racing now over, Luke Whitteker and the Whitteker Motorsports team will now shift their attention to the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series. The next several races on their schedule will be series events, beginning this Friday night at Autodrome Drummond. The following week they will have a Mr. DIRTcar event at Mohawk International Raceway, then they will begin to prepare for Super DIRT Week with races at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Rolling Wheels Raceway and the New York State Fairgrounds. The 2011 Mr. DIRTcar Series will come to an end on October 15th at Brockville Speedway.

NHRA: Announces 2012 Full Throttle Series schedule
GLENDORA, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2011) – NHRA announced its 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule today, highlighted by a return to Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis, which expands the schedule to 23 races.
“We are excited to return to the St. Louis area, as we have a very strong fan base in the region, and they have always supported NHRA Drag Racing,” said Tom Compton, president, NHRA.
A new operator at Gateway International Raceway has made the addition to the 2012 schedule possible. The multipurpose motorsports facility, located in Madison, Ill., just across the river from St. Louis, played host to an NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event for 14 years, from 1997 through 2010. The NHRA Midwest Nationals, Oct. 5-7, will become part of the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship and will feature all four professional categories: Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
Another significant change to the 2012 schedule is the return of the 28th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals to a winter date, Feb. 17-19, making it the second event on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule and the week following the season opener, the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Feb. 9-12.
The 43rd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville (Fla.) Raceway, March 8-11, will include a special 20th anniversary celebration of Kenny Bernstein becoming the first driver to break the 300-mph barrier in NHRA history. The accomplishment, still considered one of the greatest performance feats in NHRA history, will be celebrated throughout the weekend.
After the East Coast opener in Gainesville, the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series will head back west for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, March 30-April 1, and then crisscross the nation again for the third annual VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, a spectacle unlike any other in motorsports, at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, N.C., April 13-15.
The 25th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals will take place April 27-29 at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston, followed by the 32nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, May 4-6 at Atlanta Dragway. After a week off, the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series returns to action with the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kan., May 18-20.
The month of June begins with the 43rd annual NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J., May 31-June 3. Following a weekend off, the teams will prepare for the Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals presented by Tri-Cities Area Ford Dealers, June 15-17 at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway, followed by the O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Chicago, June 28-July 1.
What has been positioned to become the NHRA’s ultimate Fourth of July celebration for many years to come, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, has been moved to July 5-8. As a result, and going forward, the event will be billed as a Fourth of July extravaganza, as it will be held on or around the Independence Day holiday.
As in 2011, the famous Western Swing will begin with the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, July 20-22, followed by the 25th annual FRAM/Autolite NHRA Nationals, July 27-29 in Sonoma, Calif., and conclude with the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, Aug. 3-5. The 31st annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., will be held Aug. 16-19.
The final race of the regular season and the event where the fields will be set for the six-race NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship is the tradition-rich Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil, Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-Sept. 3. The nearly weeklong event, the longest-running and most prestigious NHRA event on the circuit, will take place at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and celebrate its 58th anniversary.
The six races that make up the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship are the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, Sept. 14-16 at zMAX Dragway; the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex, Sept. 20-23; and the 28th annual Uni-Select Auto Plus NHRA Nationals, Sept. 27-30 at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa.
The teams will gradually head to the west for the final three races of the season, the first stop at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis, Oct. 5-7. The circuit heads to Las Vegas for the 12th annual NHRA Nevada Nationals, Oct. 25-28, and will be followed by the season finale, the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Nov. 8-11.
The Pro Stock Motorcycle class will compete in a 16-race schedule, with six of those races in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship.

SEASON FINALE WEEKEND ON DECK FOR SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD
(Halifax, NS. September 8, 2011) After a long season and some incredible action on the track Scotia Speedworld’s 2011 season will come to a close following this weekend’s festivities. Friday night the Weekly Racing Series will crown Champions in 4 divisions; the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero’s, Trucks, Coco Beach Legends and the Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman. Last Friday night Champions were crowned in the Lumbermart Thunder and Lightning divisions. Also seeing action this weekend at the 3/10 mile oval is the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, who return to Halifax for their Season Finale Dartmouth Dodge 200. The Weekly Racing Series Season Finale gets underway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. Qualifying for the Dartmouth Dodge 200 is slated for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Adult weekend passes are available at Ticket Atlantic and at the gate on race day.
The Hydraulic Plus Bandolero cars will be the first to decide a Champion on Friday night. The point standings see Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie) ahead of Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) heading into the Finale. Butcher’s older brother Cole took home the title last season and little brother would certainly like to follow in his footsteps. With just four markers between the younger Butcher and Tanner it will all come down to performance on Friday night. A decent run should also secure Tanner Rookie of the Year honours; Tanner has a 20 point lead over fellow Rookie standouts Adam Meehan (Rawdon) and Dylan Sutherland (Beaverbank), who sit third and sixth respectively.
Up next on the docket will be the Truck division who will crown their third Champion in their young series history. JP Arsenault (Church Point) all but has the title wrapped up with a 42 point lead over his closest competitor Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage). Dan Smith (Sackville) was on top of the standings three weeks ago, however back-to- back heavy impact crashes have dropped Smith out of contention for the 2011 title. Smith returned to the track one week after an incredible crash, only to endure another. Smith was released from the hospital earlier this week and is home recuperating nicely.
Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro) sits on top of the Coco Beach Legends standings entering the Season Finale. Blenkhorn has a 30 point lead over Father and current Champion Paul Blenkhorn. Dad will have to do some serious wheeling on Friday night to overcome the 30 point advantage. The real battle in this division is for the prestigious Cathy Ledwidge Memorial Rookie of the Year award. Dan Michaud Jr (Cole Harbour) and Emily Meehan (Rawdon) will both be looking to take home the honour. Just 14 points separate Michaud Jr and Meehan.
The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman will be the last to declare a Champion under the lights. Jeff Dillman (Middle Musquodoboit) has a slim 14 point lead over rookie sensation Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside). Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake) sits just one marker behind Smith Jr. The battle will be between the three drivers as they go head-to-head for one last time this season.

MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY: Championship Triple Header Finale Weekend Preview
THOROLD, ON - The 60th Season Finale at Merrittville Speedway is upon us and with it comes quite an array of events that make up the J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Weekend that kicks off Friday September 9th and concludes Sunday September 11th.
While the tripleheader is anchored by the two day International Modified Lite Championship Weekend for the Modified Lites, also in the spotlight are the 4 Cylinder Cars … and Trucks in addition to the BRP Can Am Late Models on the Opening Night.
The Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Cars and the Pro 4 Trucks will thrill Full-fendered fans in addition to a 25 lap Street Stock Event Friday Night – setting up the 7th Annual Duel on the Dirt Big 6 Series on Saturday Night.
Saturday Night’s 50 lap $1000 to win Event will see the Hoosier Stocks of Team Merrittville take on the Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks that call the Brighton Speedway home in the first of two combined events to decide the 7th Annual Duel on the Dirt Big 6 Series.
Rounding out Friday Night’s events is a return visit from the Bicknell Racing Products (BRP) CanAm Late Model Series with May winner Jeremy Wonderling looking to pick up where he left off.
Wonderling will lead the pack back to Merrittville Speedway on Friday as the Series point leader. Currently Wonderling enjoys a 95 point advantage over John Waters. The 95 point advantage is comfortable, but not insurmountable.
Prior Merrittville Speedway BRP CanAm winners that are expected on Friday include Larry Knowles, Bruce Miller, and Jon Rivers. Rivers earned the Raceway 5 BRP CanAm late model track championship last week.
Saturday Night’s program is the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series with a 50 lap Event expected to draw top Sportsman Teams from across the Northeast. Merrittville’s own BJ Willard sits in 5th spot just 78 points behind leader Tim Sears Jr. Cody McPherson and Brad Rouse are 9th and 10th going into the weekend.
The 60th Season comes to a close in a Sunday Afternoon Tradition with a new twist – Smash-o-rama!.
The Grantham Lions Ironman 100 lap Enduro accelerated by Niagara College will join two events presented by Impact Motorsports – a Demolition Derby and some Monster Truck Car Crushing.
“It’s quite an exciting end to our 60th season,” reveals GM Erica Bicknell-Jones, “race fans won’t want to miss a night or afternoon …. There’s no other event that draws such a diverse field of Classics and Modified Lites … the Street Stocks also put on quite a show as do the Late Models and Sportsman and then Sunday … you’ve never seen anything like it … the Enduro is like a traffic jam on the QEW … only with no rules.”
The Annual Modified Lite International Championship for Classics and Mod Lites attracts some of the best Classic and Mod Lite Drivers from across the United States - the States of Texas, South Carolina, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, Georgia, Ohio and others have been represented over the years.
The invaders of course will challenge Merrittville Speedway’s regular New York Dwarf Car Association (NYDCA) J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lite Members that compete weekly at the Thorold track.
12 years ago, Jim Varble, the then president of the NYDCA, set the groundwork for a special night to showcase the Classic Division each fall.
When Lee Webber won two Merrittville Speedway Points Championships, he also served as treasurer of the club and his wife Rose Marie was an integral part of both as well. Rose Marie was diagnosed with cancer a little more than 5 years ago and after a courageous battle, succumbed to the disease.
Fellow driver Wally Billing was a good friend of both Lee and Rose and wanted to honor Rose by making the International Race a memorial to her and for 10 years her memory was celebrated.
“We’re proud to host this event that will pit the best Street Stockers from across Ontario,” boasts Bicknell-Jones, “it will definitely compliment the Modified Lite teams that visit us as well … and with the Sportsmen Super DIRT Series and the BRP Can Am Late Models … the pit area will be at capacity at each event.”
Beginning Friday, there is free camping and parking all weekend long.
Showtime Friday and Saturday Nights is at 7:00 after the gates open at 5:30. For Sunday’s Enduro – the Grandstand opens at 11:00 with the first event set for Noon.

Canadian Rally Championship : Mitsubishi Brigade at Rally Défi
Toronto, September 8, 2011 – The Canadian Rally Championship shifts into its second half this weekend with the fourth round on the calendar, Rallye Défi, being held over the Quebec Laurentians forest roads. The Mitsubishi Brigade will be represented by nine teams out of the 35-car starting grid. Perfect so far with three wins in as many outings, already North American champions and Rally America vice-champions, Antoine L’Estage from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec and codriver Nathalie Richard, will be first on the road Friday morning in their Lancer Evolution. Another victory could almost lock the 2011 title for them. By the same token, Mitsubishi, as a manufacturer, also leads the Canadian standings in 4 classes.
Back in action on their home turf, Synchro Racing Team is entering 3 Lancer EVOs for the members of the Losier family : Simon will team up with a new codriver Anick Madon in his familiar EVO VIII from 7th place on the grid. From 9th place, Maxime will be at the helm of another EVO VIII with Philippe Poirier codriving. Finally, Martin and Patrick Losier will take to the roads in their EVO V from 15th position.
Competition will be fierce between 3 more Mitsubishi teams leading the two-wheel drive classes. Winnipeg’s own returning champions Jan and Jody Zedril now in Group 5 will have at it against Jeffrey Dowell and Yavor Klostranec who rule the Production Sport category with their 2009 Lancer DE. Jeff and Emma Tooth will start their second national event and could split the two other teams.
Last but not least, two regular teams at this level of competition are entered. Ian Crerar and Doug Draper in their EVO VI will start from 19th position in the line-up while the only lady crew in Canada, Michelle Laframboise and Élise Racette, are 27th at the start.

After a day spent driving the roads at low speed to recce the speed sections in details, the cars will head to the start early Friday morning at 9 AM from Ste-Agathe for a first day of competition that will end at night with the famous Palomino stages for spectators. Saturday will be spent around Montpellier, a community closer to Ottawa/Gatineau: stages in the Papineau-Labelle reserve and the surrounding villages will take place, besides two feature spectator stages on asphalt. OHSWEKEN, ON – Season championships are on the line this week at Ohsweken Speedway when the Rochester Knighthawks lacrosse club presents Friday Night Thunder on September 9. Points chases for the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers will all finish off with extra-distance features on Friday.
CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING SPRINT CARS
While all points-chasing drivers will need to take a green flag during one of next week’s Canadian Sprint Car Nationals events, the Sprint Car championship will basically be decided this Friday night. Fenwick driver Jim Huppunen leads the standings heading into Friday’s race, with Tilbury’s Kyle Patrick and Jamie Collard of Burford currently 28 and 30 points behind, respectively. A top 10 finish in Friday’s feature will clinch the title for Huppunen. South Dayton, NY driver Kyle Moffit and Brantford’s Mitch Brown round out the current top 5.
LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS
Caledonia driver Mike Thorne has pretty much locked up the 2011 Thunder Stock crown, but he would like to cap off his title run with a feature win. Caistor Centre rookie Cory Turner is over 100 points behind in 2nd, and he’s trying to keep Port Robinson’s Devin Habiuk, Cambridge driver Wyatt Van Wart, and Brantford’s Chris Dickie behind him.

Dundas driver Karl Sault has enjoyed a comfortable lead in the Mini Stock standings for much of the season, but things have tightened up considerably over the last few weeks. Sault is now just 16 points ahead of Caledonia’s Mike Evers heading into Friday’s race, while Cayuga driver Abel Castelein and Brantford’s Jake Brown are tied for 3rd, just 8 points behind Evers. Ohsweken driver Steve Hess is hanging onto a top 5 spot, but Hamilton’s Dale Cooke is close behind in 6th.

Waterdown’s Rodney Rutherford scored another feature win last Friday night, and holds a 21 point lead over Caledonia driver Jesse McDonald heading into the final Bomber event. Hamilton driver Jeremy May is holding onto 3rd, but Sarah Rutherford of Dundas is just 5 points behind May. Brantford’s Kathi Dickie holds the 5th spot, just 2 points ahead of Hagersville driver Dusty DeBoer.

Ladouceur Gets Track Time at MIR in Preparation for Mr. DIRTcar Event; Cornwall Rained Out Again

It has been a great season for Joey Ladouceur and his Pro Stock team from Alexandria, Ontario. Going into the final week of points, Ladouceur was on top of the point standings at Cornwall Speedway, and led the Mohawk Racing Parts Series. All he needed to do was start the feature on Sunday night, and would be declared champion of both. He already conquered the Bailey Motor Company Pro Stock Series title, and is leading the points in the overall Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series battle. Ladouceur was looking to dial his car in and find the perfect set up at Mohawk Raceway on Thursday night, before attending the season finale at Cornwall.
Ladouceur entered Thursday night’s races at Mohawk looking to gain some valuable experience at the Hogansburg, New York track. Ladouceur is always fast at MIR, but he was looking to try something new and maybe hit on something that would put him at the front of the pack when the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series comes back on September 17th. Ladouceur struggled in the heat race, starting sixth and finishing in the same position. In the main event, Ladouceur rolled off the starting grid from tenth place, and by the checkered flag he had worked his way up to seventh.
“We are not to concerned about tonight”, says Ladouceur. “We are just trying something new here tonight to see if we can hit on something. We know we have a great set up here and typically run well, so tonight we are just experimenting”.
Cornwall Speedway has had a very tough month of August with rain, and that carried over into September. A forecast that had predicted a 100% chance of rain all day long appeared to have been wrong, and it looked like the season finale at Cornwall was going to get underway. Just as qualifying heats had began, the rain came, forcing Cornwall Speedway officials to postpone the rest of the racing action. The Mohawk Racing Parts Pro Stock Series 50 lap main event will now take place on Sunday, September 25th at 2pm.
Ladouceur will be at Autodrome Drummond this coming Friday night for the next round of the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series. From there the Series will return to Quebec the following Friday night, September 16th at Autodrome Granby for their rescheduled Mr. DIRTcar event, and then the next night they will be at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday, September 17th. The Mohawk Racing Parts Pro Stock Series will now conclude at Cornwall Speedway on September 25th. They will then enjoy a couple weeks off to prepare for the biggest event of the season at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York on Sunday, October 9th. The season will come to and end on Sunday, October 16th at Brockville Speedway.

It was a busy Labor Day Weekend for Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing with three nights of racing scheduled. First up was the team’s first ever visit to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York, then it was off to their regular Friday night stop at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. The usual Saturday night visit to Brighton Speedway was replaced with a rare Sunday evening event at their hometown track.
Mohawk Raceway is located along the St. Lawrence River across the border from Cornwall, Ontario. It is on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation and can be described as one of the nicest racing facilities in the Northeast. Potts and the Fowl Mood team were very much looking forward to their first visit to the track. After a length delay due to rain, the nigh started out with preliminary qualifying, and Potts started his six lap race from the seventh position. Potts struggled early on the unfamiliar track and finished in sixth. For the 25 lap main event, Potts started from the front row, and after a hard fought race, Potts crossed the finish line in sixth place.
“We were hoping to finish a little better, but I really am impressed with this place”, says Potts. “We hope we can get some more races scheduled here for next season. The track was in great shape, even with all the rain, and the facility itself is just phenomenal”.
On Friday night, Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park hosted their final points race of the 2011-racing season. Potts was hoping to have a solid finish and remain third in the point standings. After an uneventful fourth place finish in his qualifying heat race, Potts reported to the pit area for some adjustments before the 20 lap main event. He rolled off the starting grid from inside of the fifth row in ninth place. Potts moved up to seventh in the first few laps of the race, and maintained that spot through the end of the race. Potts finished out the regular season at Can Am third place in track points.
“We had a good year at Can Am overall, especially in the second half of the season. We really wanted to get a win here though, and we were close on a few occasions. We still have another couple weeks of racing here, and hopefully we can end it on a good note”, says Potts after the race.
Brighton Speedway hosted a rare Sunday night race for the Late Models, going “topless”, as the Late Models raced without their roof in a unique display for the fans of Brighton Speedway. Potts had a strong run going in the main event, but a flat tire forced him to the pits late in the race, and was scored in the tenth position at the checkered flag.
This coming weekend, Potts will be back at Can Am on Friday night with the No Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. On Saturday night they will be back at Brighton Speedway. The following week they will finish out the season at Can Am, and then get ready for the Great Crate Race at Brighton Speedway on September 17th.

CTCC Champions to be Crowned after Final Rounds this Weekend
Toronto, September 7th 2011 – With only two Rounds to go, the competition level will be at its highest during the Continental Sundown Enduro at Circuit ICAR on September 10-11. Actually, three battles will take place during this season's last event. Competitors of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Continental Tire (CTCC) will compete for Championship titles in Super Class and Touring Class and the manufacturers` titles will also be determined at the same time.
Going into these final Rounds, as for a fifth year in a row, a last look at the point Standings allows us to note that in each class, the winner has not yet been determined. In fact, it is in Touring Class that there is the largest point difference between the top three drivers. Tom Kwok with M&S Racing from Markham, Ontario leads in front with 1,470 points in his Honda Civic Si. The second position is held by Vaudreuil-Dorion, Québec driver Alain Lauzière with Octane Motorsport and he has earned 1,269 points so far in his MINI Cooper. His teammate, Michel Sallenbach from Roxton Pond, Québec has earned 1,197 points in his MINI Cooper for third position.
Not knowing what may happen during these final Rounds and what challenges may be encountered, the following drivers still have a chance to make it to the top three: In fourth position, P.J. Groenke from Toronto, Ontario has earned 1,123 points with his VW GTI from Pfaff Motorsport. In fifth position, Luc Lesage from Trois-Rivières, Québec has 1,059 points in his Scion tC from Media Racing Team, and the sixth position belongs to Gary Kwok from Markham, Ontario in his Honda Civic Si from M&S Racing with 1,055 points.
As for Super Class, the story is a little different and only the first four drivers could potentially finish in the top three positions. At this point, it is impossible to determine who could win Rounds Fourteen and Fifteen since points are quite tight. The battle will definitely take place on the track!
Etienne Borgeat from Montréal, Québec leads the Super Class Standings with 1,284 points in his Pontiac Solstice from GT Racing. In second position, Dean Fantin from Amherstburg, Ontario has earned 1,252 points in his BMW 328 from Amico Racing, and in third position, Richard Boake from King City, Ontario has earned 1,242 points so far in his Subaru STI. In fourth position is Bob Attrell from Brampton, Ontario. Attrell has earned 1,177 points with his Hyundai Genesis Coupe from G1 Racing.

Andrew Ranger finishes fifth in ARCA race on dirt in Illinois
It’s probably no surprise given that Andrew Ranger has been successful in every type of racing vehicle he’s climbed into, but the latest example is his fifth-place ARCA finish on dirt at the DuQuoin (IL) State Fairgrounds… (GM)
DuQuoin, IL — September 5, 2011 —Two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger finished fifth, in his third career ARCA Racing Series start and first dirt surface start, while racing in the annual Southern Illinois 100 held at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois.
Ranger qualified the No. 53 Van Dyke Baler-Bollegraaf NDS Motorsports tenth out of the thirty-four competitors who attempted to qualify for the 100-lap, 100-mile race. "We didn't get the qualifying position I would have liked," said Ranger, "we were fourth fastest in practice, so my expectations were set a little higher. These ARCA cars on dirt are a blast to drive. When the team first told me we were going to race on dirt, I immediately thought it was a joke. I had no clue they still ran full bodied stock cars on dirt." The DuQuoin State Fairgrounds have been hosting races since 1950 and annually since 1954.
The Roxton Pond, Quebec driver worked his way to runner up position which he was in for 30 laps until the last caution, with 17 laps to go, came out. "We did not need that last caution. We had a fast and great handling car, but as we got to the later stages it started to tighten up. On the last restart we dropped back a few positions and it cost us a podium finish. I am very pleased with the results and very happy with the work of my crew who provided me a very competitive car."
Ranger kept the No. 53 Van Dyke Baler-Bollegraaf NDS Motorsports ARCA car in the top-3 for 50 of the 104 laps. In addition to being a full-fendered stock car Champion, Ranger has raced open-wheeled and has driven on a limited basis his father's dirt modified car.
Andrew Ranger will return behind the wheel of the NDS Motorsports race car on September 23rd, when the NASCAR K&N East Series will be racing the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.

CHAMPION TO BE CROWED AT SEASON FINALE DARTMOUTH DODGE 200
(Halifax, NS, September 7, 2011) After 11 events, five cities, over 40 competitors and 1,400 feature laps it all comes down to this – the Dartmouth Dodge 200. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will make one final stop this summer at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, September 10th for their season finale where a champion will emerge. Five of Canada’s finest stock car drivers remain within striking distance of the coveted championship as well as the $10,000.00 championship cheque. They will have to battle each other as well as 25 other talented teams from across the Maritimes before they can claim the coveted title. Qualifying for the Dartmouth Dodge 200 will begin at 4:00 p.m.; feature racing is expected to get underway at 6:00 p.m. Gates and Box Office open at 1:00 p.m.
Championship points will be the only thing on the minds of many teams participating in Saturday’s season finale. Only 13 points separate Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS) who currently sits atop the standings, from current Tour champion Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB). Smith entered the penultimate CARQUEST 100 at Petty International with a single point lead. Smith gained his 13 point advantage by leading the most laps which garnered him 10 bonus points, Smith also finished one spot ahead of Tucker when the checkers flew for an additional 2 points. Tucker is coming off a big win last weekend at Speedway 660 and will be looking to carry that success into the finale. Both Drivers are former and multi-time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Champions and all in attendance can rest assured these two drivers will be leaving everything on the asphalt at the Dartmouth Dodge 200.
Also in the hunt are veterans John Flemming (Halifax, NS) and Kent Vincent (Crapud, PE), both of whom have wins on the Tour this season. Flemming and Vincent enter Saturday’s Dartmouth Dodge 200 in third and fourth respectively with just 3 markers separating the two. Flemming is a three-time champion and remains the only back-to-back champion earning the title in 2002 and 2003. Flemming got his first win in over 4 years at the Air Show Atlantic 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway in July. Vincent is the Tour’s most recent winner, picking up the checkers at Petty International less than two weeks ago in the CARQUEST 100. Vincent has never won the title and has been competing on the Tour since its inception in 2000. Vincent is just 24 points behind Smith and has an opportunity to become the first Island champion in series history on Saturday night.
Hoping to upset the foursome of veterans is Darren MacKinnon, (Charlottetown, PE) who blasted his way onto the scene this season with 2 wins, 7 top fives, 9 top tens and now sits just 37 points behind Smith in fifth position. MacKinnon picked up his first career victory this season in front of his hometown fans at Oyster Bed Speedway back in June. MacKinnon and his team have carried that momentum through the entire season with impressive finishes. MacKinnon suffered 2 DNF’s, one of which came at Scotia Speedworld in the season opener CARQUEST 100. The team will be looking to leave the season finale on an entirely different note – as the 2011 Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Champion.

Admission for the Dartmouth Dodge 200 is $30.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth (8-15 years old); pit admission is $35.00. Admission for Friday evenings Weekly Racing Series Finale is $12.00 for adults; $2.00 for youth. Adult weekend passes are also available for $35.00, weekend pit passes are $40.00. Children 7 and under are admitted for free all weekend. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Must be 16 years or older for pit access.
