While BAR were packing and going home to think about what they did, a la some child who stuck a peanut butter sandwich in their dad’s VCR, it was business as usual for the rest of the Formula One circus.
The high-pitched wail of, ugh! long life, V10 engines descended upon Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya for this Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.
Pedro De La Rosa led the way in both sessions as he continues to impress this year as Mclaren’s Third driver. We’ll forgive him for hoping to see his portly, by F1 standards, teammate Juan Pablo Montoya with a tennis racket in his hand again soon.
Speaking of the devil De La Rosa almost didn’t have to wait too long for his chance to shine in a grand prix again as Montoya had a huge accident at the end of the second practise session. Just as De La Rosa set his quickest time.
The crash tore off the right side of Montoya’s car and he was seen clutching his injured shoulder after he removed himself from his totaled car.
Now before Britney Spears’ "Oops I did it again" starts playing in everyone’s head, as it stands, Montoya has been cleared by doctors to take part in Saturday/Sunday’s qualifying sessions and the race.
World Championship leader Fernando Alonso had a quiet practise session as he began preparations that he hopes will result in his winning his home grand prix for the first time.
Williams driver Nick Heidfeld and Mclaren’s Kimi Raikkonen were fastest of the drivers who will actually compete in the race as De La Rosa and the Toyota of Ricardo Zonta edged them out.
Michael Schumacher struggled and was seconds off the pace in his Ferrari slotting in behind the similar-engined Sauber of Felipe Massa. Could this be a return to pre-Imola form for Ferrari? Fans of close racing sure hope so.
Mark Webber was notable for his absence from the time sheets as BMW engineers discovered a terminal flaw with their new batch of engines. Not wanting to be assessed a 10 grid place penalty for an engine change the Williams team chose to sit Webber instead. Heidfeld’s engine was used in last weekends San Marino Grand Prix and, as result, didn’t have the terminal flaw found in the new engines for Spain.
Canada’s Jacques Villeneuve, no doubt lost this week after a good result and nothing to slam, slotted in behind Schumacher as he hopefully continues his recent return to form. Villeneuve ended the day only 4 tenths off his teammate Felipe Massa who has impressed all year with his pace and consistency. A far cry from the driver who used to have to saw away at the wheel just to get the car pointed straight.

BAR-Honda has decided not to take any legal action against FIA following a two race ban imposed on the team by the governing body on Thursday.
'Upon receiving the best legal advice in all relevant jurisdictions, the conclusion is that nothing can be done to enable the team to race this weekend,' read a statement released by the team.
'The team has decided that to challenge the sport's governing body would cause a level of disruption and damage to the sport which would not serve the best interests of everyone involved.' "

PIRELLI ECHO CUP: Preview
BROSSARD, QC - The Pirelli Echo Cup organizers launched the monotype series’ second season. The series was born in 2004 thanks to the Toyota Dealer Association, Pirelli Tire Inc. and several sponsors, and was enormously successful in its first season. In 2005, it will be even more exciting as more than 30 cars will be starting next week in Saint-Eustache.
"The series will be even more competitive this year," explains Public Relations Manager Jean Malboeuf. "An additional dozen cars will be starting the series and our drivers now have the experience of a full season under their belt. Our small Echos are performing better than ever. The event calendar is taking a whole new dimension as we will race on more tracks and will even hold a round in Ontario. The success of the Pirelli Echo Cup series rests on the drivers and the wonderful management team."
A Coveted Title in 2005
The 2004 champion with the Futuroto Team, Jacques Bélanger, will return to defend his title against many experienced drivers such as Luc Lesage, Stéphane Trahan, Yves Legris, Bruno Carré, Jean-Sébastien Besner and Yannick Bardieux.
Sylvain Périgny, last year¹s Trac Racing Rookie of The Year, will have to give up his spot on the team to make room for other new rookies, like François Viau, Steven Leblanc and Stéphane Bastarache. However, Périgny will join the Déry Toyota Team and will be teamed up with Jean-François Veilleux, an experienced driver and past national champion. The season will undoubtedly have its share of surprises; we remember for instance the unexpected victory of Daniel Fortin in his first Mont-Tremblant race last year.
A National Event Calendar
The Pirelli Echo Cup will hold even more events for its second season. Just like last year, the first race will be held in Saint-Eustache, followed by a double header in Sanair. Then, another double header will take place on the St-Félicien track in Saguenay, with a first round in the evening. There will also be a highly anticipated visit to the Trois-Rivières Grand Prix.
The Cup will hold its first race out of Québec on the new Calabogie track, northwest of Ottawa, and the season will end during the Fall Classic on the Mont-Tremblant track.
Mechanical Innovations
For 2005, the small Echos will remain the same, except for new Koni Sport
shocks and Snyper brakes that have been designed specifically for the
series.
A Well Prepared Team
The main strength of the monotype series remains the excellent team of volunteers who manage the series in a very professional manner. CASCAR: American CASCAR Racer, Marc Miller, Set For Busy Schedule of Events
HOLLAND, MI (Mar. 5, 2005) --- Marc Miller, driver of the #8 Carhartt Racing entry and sole American in the CASCAR series, has a couple of very busy months ahead. The driver is scheduled for several test days in his #8 Carhartt Racing Dodge before finally hitting the track on June 4 at Autodrome St. Eustache in Quebec, Canada for his first race. It isn’t all seat time for the Holland, MI racer, as he will be in attendance for both MOPAR day this Saturday and the CASCAR Media Day on May 17.
“May and June are pretty much booked up which is pretty exciting,” said Miller. “It has been a long winter and I am looking forward to getting into our new Carhartt Racing Dodge.”
In addition to CASCAR specific promotional events such as MOPAR Day and CASCAR Media Day, Miller will also jump in the seat of two very different types of cars. In the span of three days, Miller will have been clocked at 140+ mph in a 250cc Superkart machine at Road America, then down to Chicago, IL to the brand new Autobahn Country Club racing facility to complete a full day test in a Formula SCCA machine. Miller has an active role as test-driver for FormulaCar Magazine and will spend the day testing the updated Formula SCCA machine offered by SCCA Enterprises.
“I am excited about having the opportunity to get a vast amount of seat time in a short period of time,” said Miller. “Not only will I get more time in my Carhartt Racing #8 than ever before, but also have the chance to drive other types of racecars that I love.”

Good weather reports... finally!
I'm happy to report that it looks like we might actually get some racing in this weekend. The Ontario weather reports look great for the first time in the last three weeks, so the Ontario short track season should finally get the green flag.
We're just in the midst of finishing off Volume 9, Issue 4, which will (hopefully!) be our last pre-season edition. 9.04 will also be the final issue containing the ad encouraging our readers to go to our website to vote for their choices for the 'Castrol Presents the Inside Track Readers' Choice Awards'.
So far, we've registered thousands of votes but we'd encourage you to vote for your choices because it appears that some people who you might think would win... aren't leading their respective categories. Nuff said.

BROCKVILLE ONT. SPEEDWAY: Cars hit the track at Brockville this weekend
BROCKVILLE-The final week before the official kick off of the 2005 racing season at Brockville Ontario Speedway has finally arrived. Crews, drivers and fans alike have been waiting 8 long months for the wheeled warriors to return to the fast one quarter mile clay oval just north of Brockville. This weekend offers the drivers a dress rehearsal for the big dance as a practice session has been scheduled for Sunday, May 8th from 11am to 2pm.
With some drivers switching divisions for this season, including Sportsman champ Kyle Dingwall, who is slated to make the jump to the Modifieds, the practice represents some important seat time. Other expected regulars like Perry Francis and Kyle Jacobs have made trips as far away as Ransomville, New York to do battle and get their cars ready for the new season.
The actual Rockway Pontiac season opener is scheduled for next Friday night, May 13th at 7:30 pm. The season kicks off with a full program featuring all 4 divisions, DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies. The Modifieds will run a special 50 lap lid lifter to get the campaign started in style.
Young fans will have a chance to get more involved this season, Northwood 2 Construction & XTR Kirkland's Fuel are sponsoring the BOS Kids Club . Each race night will see 2 youngsters go home with brand new bicycles. BOS is also introducing a new kids program. A $2 kids membership entitles them to Free popcorn nightly, Wall Street United Church Face Painters, Nightly draws for pit tours & autographs, rides on track in a special kids club truck, an autographed photo of favourite driver, a chance to be ambassador flagger of trophy presenter, maybe even a ride with their favourite driver. Kids club members will also get to celebrate their birthday's in style with a free hot dog & coke. Kids 12 and under can register opening night in front of the souvenir booth.
Go karts will be back at Brockville on Wednesday nights beginning with their opener on Wednesday, May 18th at 7pm with the opener sponsored by Lightning cart supply. The rules for the 2005 enduros are now available on the track website at www.brockvillespeedway.com

NBIS: Engines Ready to Roar for 2005 Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener
FREDERICTON, NB – NBIS is just about ready for the 2005 season, but ready or not the green flag will drop on the 2005 season for the first time this coming Sunday, May 8th at 2pm. The Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener marks the 12th year of racing for Canada’s Fastest Short Track, 10th under the current management group.
“We are working on some of the finer details at this point,” said NBIS General Manager Gord Curran, “Lots of small things left to do which is normal for this time of year, but we are basically ready to roll.” Drivers are almost ready to go as well as NBIS held a number of pre-season car shows that included several regular NBIS drivers, “Some of the drivers are were ready to go a month ago, but even they would admit that they are still trying to fine tune. Many of the drivers are putting in some late nights this week getting ready for the weekend”, said Curran.
The Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener will feature regular points racing in the CARQUEST Pro Stocks, Martin’s Home Heating, and Coast Tire Street Stock Divisions. Defending points champions are Dave O’Blenis in the CARQUEST Pro Stocks, Myles Harris in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, and Peter Gaddess in the Coast Tire Street Stock. Harris has confirmed that he is moving to the CARQUEST Pro Stock Division this season, so the sportsman division will have a new champion this season. O’Blenis is returning to the pro stock division, while Gaddess has not confirmed his plans yet.
The 2005 season will feature several high level events including the return of Speedweekend on Labour Day highlighted by the very popular Irving Oil 250. NBIS is also creating another Speedweekend-type event with the introduction of The Great Canadian Weekend on July 1st-3rd which will center on the Second Annual Sportsman 200. Monster Trucks are also on the schedule again on the New Brunswick Long Weekend, July 29th, 30th, 31st. The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour will visit twice this season with events in June and August while the 3-race “Best of the Best” Pro Stock events are all 100-lap events this season.

To celebrate its 10th Anniversary Season, the Southern Ontario Sprints have come up with a way to thank the fans that have made the series so successful. During the 2005 season the SOS Dash will take on a new format which should be a win-win situation for both the fans and the competitors.
Throughout the upcoming year fans at each track will have a chance to compete head to head for various prizes. At the beginning of each race night fans will be asked to fill out a ballot at the track souvenir booth. Four to six ballots will be drawn, depending on the SOS Dash size for that evening.
Once the dash lineup has been determined the fans selected will draw a dash competitors name in a lottery style fashion. The driver they draw is the driver that will be competing on their behalf in the SOS Dash. The fan whose driver wins the 4 lap dash wins an SOS prize pack as well as a photo with the winner in victory lane. The winning fans' photo and name will be posted weekly on www.southernontariosprints.com.
In addition to the fan interaction portion of the Dash, the 4 lap match race will also see changes on the track. Fans will get to see a variety of formats from the traditional top heat finishers to rookie and sophomore dashes. Removed from the program in 2005 will be the overall dash points championship. The changes to the SOS Dash should help improve overall fan and team participation at each event.

FORMULA 1: BAR On "Holiday" For Next Two Races

Jacques Villeneuve could be forgiven for having a celebratory beer over the plight of BAR Honda this season. If anything, at least for the last week, it’s taken the 1,000-pound gorilla that is the motorsports press off his back.
On Wednesday the FIA handed down their verdict after BAR was found to be using fuel as a ballast to get their cars up to the minimum weight.
Originally BAR’s explanation was accepted by the race stewards at the San Marino Grand Prix. But after a hearing with the FIA Court of Appeal, that decision was overturned and BAR will now have to sit out the next two races, the Spanish Grand Prix and the Monaco Grand Prix. The team is also on a six-month 'suspended ban' (i.e. probation) for the next year.
It’s a rather surprsing decision given BAR team boss Nick Fry’s comments after meeting with the FIA ealrier in the week.
"Generally I’m very happy with proceedings," Fry said to a throng of reporters awaiting him outside the FIA Court of Appeal. "I am very, very proud of what all the team members did. I think they presented themselves absolutely superbly and with huge professionalism and integrity."
It’s doubtful Fry is as "upbeat" about the proceedings now. In comments earlier in the week he steadfastly maintained their was no intentional deception on the part of the BAR team and that the hearings will prove it. In retrospect, he was way off.
While saying he was willing to accept the FIA’s decision he did maintain that there were two conditions that would force him to look into other avenues of appeal.
"I think we’d only consider that civil action in two circumstances. One, if the requested penalty of being thrown out the championship is actually imposed, because then we’d really have nothing to lose," Fry said to the scrum. "And secondly if there was really a suggestion that we have cheated, because we have not. That really goes to the core of the operation of our team, and we’d have to refute that."
Well, condition one never happened - BAR’s ban is a temporary one. However, it seems pretty clear from the FIA’s verdict that they believed BAR had attempted to unfairly manipulate the rules, stacking the deck in their favour.
It will be interesting to see, in the next few weeks, whether or not BAR decides to accept the FIA’s verdict.
It’s doubtful we’ve heard the last of this story.

LUCAS OIL WWS: Gary Elliott to Race Late Models in 2005

May 3rd, 2005 - The green flag drops on the 2005 race season this Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway. Races start at 6:30 p.m.
Gary Elliott will make his debut in the Late Model division after 33 years with the popular Vintage Modified’s. During Elliott’s CVM run he has captured 2 Championships, many top 5 points finishes, 184 wins and accumulated 25 seasons of perfect attendance. He will race two CVM races in 05’.
One award Elliott has yet to win is Rookie of the Year. He will pilot his 2005 Dodge in the very competitive Late Models with his sights on being the top Rookie as well as aiming for a top 5 points finish.
Elliott has expanded his crew to 8 members. His wife Nonie will keep in touch on the head set as well as keep track of lap times. Jim Hulzinga, Elliott’s main spotter, will make his debut as crew chief. Jim will oversee the pit operations and keep the crew members busy with various duties. Thatcher Krupp is in charge of all chassis set-up. TJ has guided the Rookie team throughout the winter, making sure the right parts and set ups have been put in place. When TJ is away Dave Watson will head up race car changes. Steve Zivanic will start his 2nd full season as crew member helping on all aspects of the car. Amy Miskewicz will keep the car looking good, making sure that Gary has all the things he needs inside the car. Chris Young and Jason Chapman are in their first full season. Jason will assist Amy and Steve while Chris works with Dave Watson.

EMPIRE SUPER SPRINTS: ALAIN BERGERON SEASON PREVIEW

Next weekend Alain Bergeron’s 2005 season will begin. Team Bergeron’s first objective is to finish all the 'Empire Super Sprints ' races and finish in the top 5 in the championship at season’s end.
The 'official' beginning of the season for the ESS regular is Sunday, May 8th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway NY, but several drivers will meet the day before at Fonda Speedway NY for the Sprint 360 Open.
The test will give Bergeron and his team the opportunity to make any last adjustments to his car. The ESS season is long, with about 30 races, ending in October. Last season, Alain Bergeron was in a good position to achieve his objective of fifth in the series standings when he went from twelfth to fifth in the standing in a single weekend of racing.
That weekend Bergeron won at Autodrome Drummond. Afterwards things took a turn for the worse when engine troubles and three major accidents dealt a fatal blow to his campaign. The last accident, at the beginning of September at Granby, terminated Bergeron's season when he suffered a broken hand as a result.
It was a sad end to the Québecois drivers 2004 season, one that started off so well. Bergeron had already won the first three DASH races of the 2004 season.
Despite his 2004 setbacks Bergeron’s long-time partners are back for 2005. They are Coffrage Daniel Lampron, Carquest, Domaine del'Érable, Castrol, Entreprises Joe Boucher, Concept Fini Meubles, GarageRéal Barré, Emballages Pro-Cart.
For 2005, two US partners are also lending their support to Bergeron. They are DMI and Real Racing Wheels. Thanks for your support

As reported yesterday, Tim Phillips of Grand Island, New York has announced that he will no longer be behind the wheel of his popular #21 sprint car. The news has left everyone involved in northeast sprint car racing in shock and asking one simple question....why?
At the age of 44, Tim has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In order to begin the treatment process he has now set his focus on the road to recovery rather than on the race track. "Because I am so young I have to take an aggressive approach to it" said Phillips. "All I know at this time is that I will be having surgery in the next few months" he added.
Piloting a sprint car around a close quarters dirt track takes nerves of steel, so you can imagine Tim will tackle this problem full speed ahead. In the meantime the friends, fans, competitors and staff of the Southern Ontario Sprints would like Tim to know that he is in our thoughts and that we are wishing him a successful battle and a speedy recovery!

CANADIAN SPRINT CAR NATIONALS: EARLY ENTRIES OFFERS INCENTIVES

OHSWEKEN, ON – With the September 17 running of the inaugural “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” less than twenty weeks away, teams are reminded that “Early Bird” pre-entries are now being accepted which bring with them special benefits.
Glenn Styres along with SOD regular Mark Broughman have already filed pre-entries and taken advantage of the special discounted pre-entry which is available from now until July 1st at a cost of $30 U.S. ($40 CAN.) All entries must be paid in full at the time of submission and will include one (1) Pit Pass (a $30 U.S. value). In addition, paid pre-entries filed before July 1st will also be eligible to purchase up to five (5) additional Pit Passes at a discounted rate of $25 U.S. each ($35 CAN.) if paid in full at the time of pre-entry submission.
Entries after July 1st that are received before September 10th will cost $50 U.S. ($70 CAN.) and will not include a free pit pass or the option to purchase additional discounted pit passes.
All entries filed after September 10th will cost $70 U.S. ($95 CAN.).
All race day Pit Passes will cost $30 U.S. ($40 CAN.). No membership cards will be accepted for discounted pit passes.

All sprint car teams which abide by the administrative, technical and procedural rules as set forth by Ohsweken Speedway are welcome. The September 17th tentative schedule calls for the Pit gates to open at 10:00 a.m. with the driver’s meeting to get underway at 4:00 p.m. followed immediately by Hot Laps and Time Trials. Racing to begin at 7:45 p.m. All cars must be processed through tech before being allowed on the track.
A “Rain Date” of September 18th has been established for the event. If necessary, Pit Gate will open at 9:00 a.m. with Time Trials at 11:00 a.m. Racing will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Friday night, September 16th will see Ohsweken Speedway host a regular program plus the SOS Invitational to determine their season champion. Also on tap will be the running of the “Ohsweken Shootout”, a 10 lap dash featuring three cars from each of the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” affiliate sanctioning series. The top three finishers at each of the affiliate’s first Ohsweken Speedway event during the 2005 season, who can attend, will make up the field. The first qualifier will be the Patriot Sprint Group event scheduled for May 6 followed by the Southern Ontario Sprints on May 20th. The Empire Super Sprints on June 24 and Sprints On Dirt August 26th will determine the remainder of the field. The “Shootout” will feature 12 cars for 10 laps paying the winner $500 U.S.
Practice time has also been arranged for September 16th for all paid “Nationals” registered cars who are not competing in the SOS Invitational. Three sessions will be staggered during the evening with the first to take to the track at approximately 7:30 p.m. All “Nationals” registered cars that are not competing in the SOS Invitational and wish to practice will receive two free Pit Passes for the Friday Night Show practice session.

CHAMP CAR: Official Statement from Rocketsports Concerning Glock’s Accident During Milwaukee Testing
Milwaukee, Wisc. (May 3, 2005) – During the first day of a two-day test at the Milwaukee Mile in preparation for Round Three of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford Rocketsports driver Timo Glock was taken to the hospital after a hard hit this afternoon.
The back end of the car became loose on the rookie, causing him to loose control of this car backing into the wall between Turn Three and Four.
He was taken to the hospital after the incident, but was conscious and alert. A CAT scan was performed and came back clear. The young German is suffering from a headache and some body aches, but will be released from the hospital this evening.

CASCAR: MacLeod Hoping For An “EXPLOSIVE" CASCAR Rookie Season
INNISFIL, ON – Tara MacLeod, driver of the Central Merchant Services Ford, and Rookie of the Year contender in the CASCAR Super Series, has signed Damon "Dynamite" Sharpe as her crew chief.
"Dynamite has a great deal of experience and is a tremendous asset to our team," stated MacLeod, who will be competing in her first year in the national stock car series.
Sharpe is very familiar with the cars and the equipment, as he was crew chief for Kerry Micks, driver of the PowerWater Ford, until stepping back to concentrate on his growing real estate business. Micks Motorsports is supplying and preparing the cars for MacLeod Racing this season.
"I'm glad I was able to talk him out of retirement," smiled MacLeod. "He's too good to give it up just yet. "I'm excited and looking forward to this season," explained Dynamite. "The deal is for race weekends only, no shop time which allows me to concentrate on my business. It's a good move for both of us."
The MacLeod team is relatively an inexperienced crew in terms of CASCAR competition and are looking forward to the leadership and knowledge Sharpe can bring to the team.

CONCORD, N.C. (May 3) – DIRT MotorSports™ big-block Modifieds have been selected as the opening act for one of the nation's most historic and prestigious motorsports events, the May 29 Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Scheduled for Wednesday night, May 25, at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway, the Ferris Commercial Mowers presents the Eckerd 75 marks the first time the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series has served as a preliminary event for a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race.
"Moving this annual event from its traditional early April date to the Wednesday prior to the Coca-Cola 600 will expose the big-block DIRT Modifieds' unique brand of side-by-side racing to thousands of fans in town for the big race," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "It's a great way to kick off an exciting week."
The May 25 event marks the fifth time DIRT's big-block Modified drivers and teams will travel south to tour the spacious four-tenths-mile clay oval. The list of past feature winners includes such stars as inaugural victor Steve Paine, Brett Hearn, Tim McCreadie, Doug Hoffman, Kevin Bolland and defending champion Ricky Elliott.

The Ferris Commercial Mowers presents the Eckerd 75 will include a full-slate of preliminary races with a 50-lap big-block Modified feature rounding out the card.
The steel-head late model stock cars of the Dixie Thunder Series will also be in action. Making their first visit to The Dirt Track, the steel-head late models will run a full slate of heat and last chance races prior to a 25-lap finale.

RALLY: Black Bear Rally Calls for Workers

Maple Leaf Rally Club is pleased to present the Black Bear Rally on Saturday, June 18, 2005 in Dorset, ON. Due to the initiatives of an eager new committee under Ryan Huber, for the first time in many years the Bear will be a full Regional event i.e. not just one road.
In addition to the traditional Sherbourne Lake stage, Black Bear will be running stages on the Pine Springs and Ril Lake roads, giving a full 100 km of competitive stages. This is due to major road repairs having been done by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the support of RallySport Ontario in the project in order to have a full stand-alone Regional again in Ontario.
This means that we need your help on the day of the event. Lots of ham radio operators, timing marshals, traffic control marshals and crowd control marshals will be required.
Another new feature for this year is the provision of stage notes by the organizers with competitors getting one pass of every stage early Saturday morning to familiarize themselves with the notes. A few workers will be required to assist with that. The bulk of the workers will be needed by 9 a.m. on Saturday.

AIM Autosport Scores Big in California
LAGUNA SECA / MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA – The AIM Autosport Formula BMW USA team traveled to Laguna Seca Raceway in picturesque Monterey, California for the opening two rounds of the 2005 championship. Based on pre-season testing with rookie drivers Kevin Lacroix and Rob Bunker – the team had high expectations for a solid start to this year’s campaign.
In race one Kevin Lacroix executed a stellar standing start few professional racers ever master, the 16 year old rookie driver rocketed from his fourth starting position and stole the race from the 19 other Formula BMW USA competitors. With the lead firmly in hand by turn one he led the 15-lap contest flag-to-flag, finishing 1.694 seconds ahead of Reed Stevens.
Kevin jumped into the lead at the very first turn, never looked back and went on to win his very first career open-wheel race starting from fourth place, the 16-year old rookie from St-Eustache, Quebec had a perfect start and overtook pole sitter Richard Philippe and two other cars to ease his way up in the lead.
AIM teammate Rob Bunker started ninth on the grid and drove a steady race, staying out of trouble to finish seventh in race one.
In race two Kevin started third and finished third behind Philippe and Soulet as the race was marked by two full-course caution periods, but the top-three never changed. Rob had an excellent start and jumped ahead of several competitors, again driving a smooth race coming home seventh.

FRENAULT UK: McIntosh holds second in championship challenge
Thruxton Circuit, England (May 1, 2005) A pair of fourth place fiinishes for Sean McIntosh in the third and fourth rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship at Thruxton this weekend ensure the Canadian charger remains firmly in the title fight as the series begins a month long hiatus. McIntosh's consistency at the Hampshire circuit allowed the Team Firstair racer to remain tied for second in the point standings with four rounds completed.
The reigning Graduate Cup Champion returned to the 2.35-mile Thruxton Circuit, scene of his 2004 series debut, confident he could continue his front-running pace from the season-opener at Donington Park earlier in the month. Sean's confidence was duly merited as his lowest placing all weekend was fifth on the grid for yesterday's race, Round 3, while he placed third on the grid for Round 4 this afternoon.
Round 3 rounded off yesterday's busy timetable, the race starting as evening approached. The 15-lap sprint proved to be somewhat processional, despite the Formula Renault cars topping close to 150mph, with Sean's progress from fifth hindered by the slower car of Stephen Simpson for the first half of the race.
With the top three of Storckenfeldt, Jarvis and Hohenthal setting a frantic pace, by the time McIntosh slipped by Simpson on lap eight to claim fourth place Hohenthal held a four second advantage over the Canadian.
Sean, now with a clear track ahead, reeled off a succession of fastest laps to close the gap to third but ultimately ran out of time to catch Hohenthal as the checkered flag fell at the end of lap 15.
Today's race, Round 4, was to prove slightly more eventful for Sean while the end result was the same. Starting from third Sean quickly gave chase to Alex Storckenfeldt and Oliver Jarvis on the front-row. The Swedish driver immediately surrendered first place to his English rival while Sean closely shadowed the pair in third.
Holding a podium placing for most of the 15-lap race, Sean was ultimately denied a top-three finish in the dying stages by a hard charging Stephen Simpson. With the Team JLR driver enjoying the faster of the two cars he finally darted past a defenseless McIntosh at Goodwood on lap 12 to claim the final podium slot. While it remained tight at the front, with the top five barely covered by two seconds, Sean held on for a successive fourth place finish and another healthy dose of championship points.
Commenting on a solid pair of performances Sean said: "It's been a pretty good weekend here at Thruxton. To come away with two fourth place finishes at a track that probably isn't one of my strongest is a good result. I had a quick car in yesterday's race and was unfortunate to get held up while today we kept pace with the leaders, our lap times were all similar but ultimately Simpson had a stronger car towards the end of the race.
"It was important to be consistent here and we were never lower than fifth in either of the qualifying sessions or the races. While it would have been nice to complete the weekend with a podium finish it's better to come away with 44 solid championship points and hold on to second in the standings." Today's race winner, Oliver Jarvis, leads the championship standings on 116 with Sean tied for second with Sebastian Hohenthal on 96 points after four rounds.
Sean's back in action a week on Monday, testing at Silverstone before heading back to Canada for a short-break, the Vancouver native taking advantage of the month long rest before the fifth and sixth rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship at Brands Hatch, 4-5th June.
