CASCAR: #60 falls to the back
DELAWARE: Following inspection in tech lane, the #60 car of Ron Beauchamp Jr. was determined to be 'too low' and will start 30th in the MOPAR 250. Beauchamp had originally timed in 7th fastest.

CASCAR Super Series dominator wins the pole for Sunday’s MOPAR 250 at Delaware Speedway
LONDON, ON – Last Tuesday during CASCAR’s annual Media Day get together, Don Thomson Jr.’s Super Series rivals were confident they could keep the four-time National champion from succeeding in his ‘drive for five’. If someone is to succeed at that task, he or she will have to do better than they did today.
During Saturday afternoon’s time trial qualifying session for Sunday’s season-opening MOPAR 250 CASCAR Super Series race at Delaware Speedway, Thomson made it clear that knocking him off the top of the hill won’t be an easy feat.
The Hamilton, ON resident won eight poles in 2004 en route to his fourth-consecutive Super Series crown. Today, the Home Hardware Chevy driver secured the inside of the front row for tomorrow’s 250-lap race on the strength of a 19.534-second lap around the Delaware half-mile oval.
Dave Whitlock was second-fastest of the 30 drivers who participated in time trials. The Wyoming, ON driver guided his Avenue Motor Works / NMT Dodge Charger around his ‘hometrack’ in 19.547 seconds. Power Water Ford driver Kerry Micks, of Mt. Albert, ON, was third quickest at 19.562 seconds.
Peter Gibbons is the defending winner of the MOPAR 250. The Canadian Tire racer won both Super Series events at Delaware Speedway in 2004. The Stouffville, ON native will line up eighth in the field of 30 for tomorrow’s race.
Several rookies qualified for the race, including Tara MacLeod, Matty Tsoumaris and Chad McGlynn. The MOPAR 250 is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

LONDON, ON – Last Tuesday during CASCAR’s annual Media Day get together, Don Thomson Jr.’s Super Series rivals were confident they could keep the four-time National champion from succeeding in his ‘drive for five’. If someone is to succeed at that task, he or she will have to do better than they did today.
During Saturday afternoon’s time trial qualifying session for Sunday’s season-opening MOPAR 250 CASCAR Super Series race at Delaware Speedway, Thomson made it clear that knocking him off the top of the hill won’t be an easy feat.
The Hamilton, ON resident won eight poles in 2004 en route to his fourth-consecutive Super Series crown. Today, the Home Hardware Chevy driver secured the inside of the front row for tomorrow’s 250-lap race on the strength of a 19.534-second lap around the Delaware half-mile oval.

SOS:Styres wins at Ohsweken
I went to Ohsweken Speedway last night for the SOS race. What a great show! For someone who is accustomed to heavy stock cars on pavement most of the time, these machines are spectacular to watch.
Glenn Styres won the main event. I just received the full agate from Greg Calnan (SOS Insider). Styres won't have long to savour his victory. The SOS are back in action on Sunday night at Humberstone.
Glenn Styres grabbed the first SOS checkered flag of the 2005 season with his win Friday night at Ohsweken. Now the SOS turns its attention to the tight bullring at the Humberstone Speedway. Racing starts at 6:30 pm in Port Colborne this Sunday night.

NASCAR SPEEDPARK AT VAUGHAN MILLS HOSTS GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION
NASCAR’s Elliott Sadler and the Stars of CASCAR Join NASCAR SpeedPark’s Celebration!
TORONTO – MAY 20, 2005 – NASCAR SpeedPark at Vaughan Mills will hosts its Grand Opening Celebration from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, with a personal appearance by NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler and driver appearances with some of the stars of CASCAR. The celebration will also include a free concert, appearances by NASCAR SpeedPark mascot, roving entertainers, draws for free giveaways and special ride, retail and food prices.
One of the highlights of the Grand Opening Celebration will be an appearance by Elliott Sadler, driver of the #38 M&M’s car and one of NASCAR SpeedPark’s official spokesmen. Sadler will be signing autographs and greeting fans from 6:30-7:30 p.m. during the Grand Opening Celebration. There will also be a select number of drivers and show cars from CASCAR who will be greeting fans from 4-9 p.m.
Another exciting element of NASCAR SpeedPark’s celebration are two free concerts in the park by “Arden and the Tourists” at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Fans can also enjoy appearances by the official NASCAR SpeedPark mascot “Sparkie the Sparkplug” throughout the day along with free face-painting and balloon artistry for the kids from 4-9 p.m.
In addition to entertainment, the park will be offering a special $30 All Day Ride Pass Package with $5.00 of each package sold benefiting the United Way of York Region. Delaware, ON - The stakes just got a little higher for drivers in Delaware Speedway's Cintas Late Model division. Beginning with this Saturday's Twin 50-lap feature races, drivers will now have a chance to win a Lucas Oil "Scratch and Win" bonus, worth $500 of cash and product for each race. In addition, Heritage Chrysler from Strathroy has posted a $500 bonus for any driver that can win both 50-lap feature races on Saturday night.
The Lucas Oil "Scratch and Win" is a new bonus program that will apply for the rest of the 2005 season and will work as follows:The top-two finishers from the previous week's feature race will start the next feature from the back row (i.e., "starting scratch"). If either of those two drivers wins that feature, they'll receive a bonus of $250 cash and $250-worth of Lucas Oil products. If the bonus isn't won, the money and product will go toward the year-end Cintas Late Model point fund. All told, the program will put an additional $5,000.00 in cash and $5,000.00 in Lucas Oil product in the hands of Delaware Speedway competitors.

In addition, the cash and product not won on a week-to-week basis will be transferred to the year-end Delaware Speedway point fund and paid-out to drivers who achieve at least 80% attendance throughout the season but do not win any dollars from either the Lucas Oil Weekend Warrior Series or the NASCAR Dodge WeeklySeries program. This will ensure that almost everyone who supports the track by competing on a weekly level will stand to directly benefit, one way or another, from Lucas Oil.

PMRA: Great Field of Pro Modifieds Entered In PMRA Opener
Cayuga, ON (May 21, 2005) - Last year's IHRA Pro Modified World Champion and IHRA Pro Modified World Record Holder (232.07 mph) Mike Janis of Lancaster, NY, and Canadian ace Al Billes IHRA Pro Modified World Record Holder (6.102 seconds) of Barrie are scheduled to compete in the Pro Modified Racing Association's inaugural event at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario this weekend. The PMRA is a newly-formed series for these popular cars, known as the "world's fastest doorslammers."
This series is comprised of Pro Modified teams throughout Ontario and New York State, and the TMP race is the PMRA's first of five events for 2005.
Also on hand this weekend at the Kohler Road strip will be a couple of nitro-burning Funny Cars, the first time this class has been at the track in over 10 years, some jet-powered cars, a jet-powered ambulance, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
On Saturday, there will be qualifying runs at 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m., with eliminations starting at 7:30 p.m. for the quickest eight entries. The semis are scheduled at 9:00 p.m., and the final at 10:30 p.m.
The PMRA is a self-governing organization with its own set of technical and safety rules based on the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Pro Modified division. Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class offers a widely-diverse group of race cars with different types of 2000-horsepower engines propelling the cars down the quarter-mile in the 6.20-second range at 230 mph.
In its first year of operation, the PMRA will provide fans in Ontario, Quebec, and New York the opportunity to see and hear popular Pro Modified racing in the class known as “the world’s fastest doorslammers.”
Joining the Pro Modified Racing Association at some of their events, including TMP will be the CAN-AM Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-roots drag series which features competitors from Ontario and Michigan, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season. The participants, known for their awesome wheelies, are fan favorites wherever they appear.

This series is comprised of Pro Modified teams throughout Ontario and New York State, and the TMP race is the PMRA's first of five events for 2005.
Also on hand this weekend at the Kohler Road strip will be a couple of nitro-burning Funny Cars, the first time this class has been at the track in over 10 years, some jet-powered cars, a jet-powered ambulance, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
On Saturday, there will be qualifying runs at 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m., with eliminations starting at 7:30 p.m. for the quickest eight entries. The semis are scheduled at 9:00 p.m., and the final at 10:30 p.m.
The PMRA is a self-governing organization with its own set of technical and safety rules based on the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Pro Modified division. Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class offers a widely-diverse group of race cars with different types of 2000-horsepower engines propelling the cars down the quarter-mile in the 6.20-second range at 230 mph.
In its first year of operation, the PMRA will provide fans in Ontario, Quebec, and New York the opportunity to see and hear popular Pro Modified racing in the class known as “the world’s fastest doorslammers.”
Joining the Pro Modified Racing Association at some of their events, including TMP will be the CAN-AM Stock/Super Stock Series. This popular grass-roots drag series which features competitors from Ontario and Michigan, was formed in 1996, and continues to grow each season. The participants, known for their awesome wheelies, are fan favorites wherever they appear.

NBIS: Enduro on Monday
GEARY, NB - Just a reminder that in addition to the Riverview Ford Lincoln and Dairy Queen Presents Kid's Day on Sunday, May 22nd, NBIS will be hosting the first Enduro 200 of the season on Monday, May 23rd at 2pm.
Enduros are unique events that are held four times during the 2005 season. Enduro cars are are basically stripped down street stocks with safety features in place. In these races drivers are ALLOWED to spin, push and tap the other drivers without being “Black Flagged.” Their only purpose is to outlast, out wit and survive 200 laps.
The events are run in 3 segments, two 75-lap segments to start with a finale 50 lap charge to the finish. Last man or woman standing and the first to complete 200 laps wins first prize. The only time a race will be stopped is when someone is in danger.

CASCAR: D.J. Kennington Geared Up For CASCAR Kickoff – MOPAR 250
(St. Thomas, Ontario) – Sunday, May 22nd, the green flag will drop at Delaware Speedway on the 2005 CASCAR Super Series season, and D.J. Kennington will be among the combatants. For Kennington, he will again be searching for his first Super Series victory in the MOPAR 250 at his home track, a place where D.J. has had a tremendous amount of success, including a track championship in 1997.
As always, the MOPAR 250 is one that Kennington has circled on his calendar every year. “I don’t know where else I would rather be on Victoria Day weekend then Delaware. This is my home track, and one of my favorites. This race is always special because of the sponsor as well. MOPAR has been such a big supporter of CASCAR, and all the guys that race Dodge cars. It’s also the debut of the new Charger in CASCAR. They are great looking race cars and should really race well. It’s an exciting new product to be involved with.”
There have been a few changes with the D.J.K. Racing Team over the winter, and Kennington is very optimistic about the moves, explaining, “We’ve added a second car, and Marc Miller will be competing in six events with a car out of our shop. Marc doesn’t have a lot of CASCAR seat time, but I think you’ll see more of him closer to the front this year. We want to help Marc gain some experience and I know with his road course background, when we go to the Toronto Molson Indy, or, or Mosport, he’ll be in good shape to compete for a top-five.”
But the personal additions didn’t stop with Miller. “Both Jeremy Noon, and Jim Walsh have been working for another team, and have been helping us when they can over the past few years, but this year they are both on board full-time. It’s great to have them around the shop. They both have a tremendous amount of experience, and we’re confident that along with the personal we already had in place, we can take a run at the championship in 2005. We want to get off to a great start and put 2004 in the rearview mirror.”
The 2004 season was one that D.J. has been looking to put behind him since the final checkered flag fell last September. The year started with a seventh-pace finish at Delaware, but a few flat tires, and a pair of DNF’s at Cayuga and Peterborough put Kennington back to 15th in the championship standings after five races. Event number six was the Molson Indy in Toronto, and Kennington had his highlight of the season, starting second and finishing third. Another trip to the podium at the Mosport oval, and a couple of fourth-place results down the stretch allowed D.J. to scratch and claw his way back into the top-10 in the points race. “Last year was so frustrating for us. We broke a bunch of stuff early on, and that really put us in a hole. Then, every time it looked like we could see the edge of the hole and were ready to climb out, something would knock us back down again. We couldn’t get a caution when we had a flat, and we broke a clutch. Those are things that you just can’t do anything about. We had a top-five car at a lot of races last year, and weren’t able to close the deal. This year is going to be different. If we can get a couple of breaks, we’ll make some of our own luck, win a few races, and take a shot at the championship.”
That 12-leg championship run will start this weekend at Delaware Speedway, just outside of London. The CASCAR Super Series field will qualify at 3:00 on Saturday, with the green flag dropping on the MOPAR 250 at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon. CARQUEST PRO STOCK TOUR: Pro Line 100 Set To Start Stock Car Season

Halifax, NS (2005 May 18) - Less than one week, and counting, until the 2005 stock car racing season gets underway at Scotia Speedworld this Sunday, May 22 with The Pro Line 100 for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour.
Indications are for a strong field of entries for The Pro Line 100, as many as 34, including past champions, wiley veterans and racey rookies.
The Pro Line 100 is round one of 11 in the 05 edition of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour - a points championship event that will set the stage in the battle for over $50,000 in year-end awards - including a $10,000 cheque for the champion.
Two rounds of qualifying will set the field for the 100-lap pro stock feature, including Motor Mart Time Trials and GM Goodwrench Service Heat Races.
Also on the agenda May 22 will be the season openers for the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman, featuring round one of five in the 2005 Sportsman Super Series, and the Legends Tour. Heat races for both divisions will set the fields for their respective feature races.
It will be a full afternoon of high-octane excitement with Motor Mart Time Trials starting the competition at 1:20pm followed by racing at 2pm. The event will also see the inaugural interactive autograph session with the drivers, to be held during pit road set up for The Pro Line 100.
Grandstand admission is just $22 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15) and children 7 and under are admitted free. All children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $25 and restricted to those 16 and older.
Scotia Speedworld is a 3/10-mile asphalt oval stock car racing track featuring Budweiser Weekly Racing for five divisions and several special events during the race season, which runs from May to September. OSCAAR: JNE Consulting returns to support OSCAAR racer John Fletcher in 2005
MILTON, ON – John Fletcher, the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model racer who came within a flat tire of winning the 2004 series championship, will return as the driver of the JNE Consulting Ltd. #61 Super Late Model for 2005.
Fletcher’s Goldstar Motorsports operation is looking forward to competing in the highly-competitive tour, which is quickly establishing itself as one of the country’s most competitive and exciting stock car series.

INDUSTRY: Star of New Shell Television Ads Pays a Visit to Canada

Those folks from Shell Canada are so sneaky. What was presented to the media as a meet-and-greet with the star of their new Television Ads, Shell Global Solutions Fuel Technology Manager Clive McDonald, turned out to be an impromptu product unveiling.
Well, sort of...
Currently Shell produces a line of premium gasoline known as Optimax Gold, and around the world as V-Power. As of June 6, 2005, Optimax Gold will be sold in Canada under the V-Power Label aligning with the worldwide brand. They have also renewed their technical partnership with the Ferrari Formula 1 team through 2010.
What could have been a dry, boring product roll-out was, in fact, an entertaining discussion with McDonald about his experience working with the Mclaren and Ferrari Formula 1 teams formulating high performance fuels for the fastest circuit racers on earth. He can be seen in Shell’s new television commercial, jumping at the shriek of a passing Formula 1 car and uttering the memorable line “I’ve never been to a Formula 1 race in my life, quite frankly it terrifies me!”
The impression you get of McDonald on T.V. is that of a brilliant, enthusiastic engineer with a cheeky sense of humour and a great deal of humility for a man of his accomplishments.
“I tried to move heaven and earth to avoid being in that commercial,” mused McDonald. “Suffice it to say I failed. When we did the shoot, Michael (Schumacher) was practicing his starts. All over the track he’d do downhill, uphill and cold starts. The attention to detail was incredible!”
Shell works directly with Ferrari at their Fiorano test track allowing Shell engineers to make immediate adjusts as they are needed and get a close look at the cars their fuel are powering.
“When Schumacher would pause, we would run out and film the commercial!” McDonald said.
Car manufacturers, specifically those in disciplines such as Formula 1, often pepper advertisements with catchphrases such as “synergy” and “trickle-down” to justify their huge investment, claiming the technology produced in Formula 1 will ultimately make it to production vehicles.
Honda, Bridgestone and Hewlett-Packard are among the latest companies to feature advertisements tying in their product with their participation in Formula 1.
McDonald maintains that Shell premium fuels aren’t as far away from their Formula 1 counterparts as many would assume.
“Formula 1 Gasoline is the most strictly regulated fuel on earth,” noted McDonald. “As such it’s not altogether a different breed of petrol from that which Shell sells to its customers. You can see the benefit immediately as we are always modulating our formula based on things like the changing seasons.”
McDonald Claims that participation in Formula doesn’t just benefit the buyers of Shell Fuels but Shell as well.
“I’m a research scientist, I think in 5-10 years. In Formula 1 they want it (snaps his fingers quickly). You learn to solve problems, find solutions, immediately,” observed McDonald. “When you work for a large company such as Shell it can take much longer to find, and then approve, a solution.”
Since haphazardly acquiring his newfound celebrity status McDonald has had to field a number of Formula 1 related questions. Consistently one question keeps coming up.
“A lot of people ask me what is so magical about Formula 1,” McDonald said. “Going back to watching Schumacher practice, it’s the incredible attention to detail that amazes me.”

TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND: Chrysler launches two car assault on new Targa division

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan - DaimlerChrysler Corporation will launch an all-out assault on Targa Newfoundland 2005 with a spectacular two-car entry in the new Unlimited Division, the company has announced.
The two cars a 2006 Chrysler 300 C SRT8 and 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 will be prepared by the Chrysler Group s in-house performance specialists, and fielded by a pair of Chrysler executives with motorsports backgrounds.
The company is determined to be the first manufacturer to earn a coveted Division win in Targa Newfoundland in its four year history.
The two-car effort is characterized by a number of firsts , including the Targa debut of the Chrysler Group s star designer in the role of competition driver. American-born, Montreal-raised Ralph Gilles will pilot the Charger in its first competition in Canada, and likely in one of its first competition outings anywhere (the car will only go on sale for the first time this summer).
The Chrysler 300 C SRT8 will be driven by American Dan Knott, director of the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Group within the company. SRT will prepare the cars. Details on the co-drivers for the new cars have not been released.
"This is the perfect Targa entry and the best way for a company like DaimlerChrysler to take its performance story to the world," Targa organizer Robert Giannou said. "The setting is ideal real world conditions and real motorsport competition. And the new Unlimited Division is the perfect home for the kind of innovation you would expect from this company. It just doesn t get any better!"
The bold designs of both the 300 and the Charger are Gilles work. But it won t be design that wins North America s longest and toughest rally. It will take preparation, endurance and driving skill to see both entries through the week-long competition.
Power certainly won t be a problem. Both cars start with 6.1-litre Hemi V-8 engines that produce 425 hp at 6000 rpm and 420 lb/ft of torque at 4800 rpm before the SRT Group goes to work. The standard Charger SRT8 registers 0-60 mph times in the low 5-second range and has a top speed of 165 mph (265 km/h). The Charger SRT8 is factory equipped with Brembo brakes, aerodynamic aids and suspension enhancements.But the Charger also has a reputation to live up to.
The original Dodge Charger was a revered two-door muscle car from the 60s and 70s, and the reincarnated version is a four-door sedan. Gilles is not concerned. "The new Charger would run circles around most of the muscle cars from any era," he told a Detroit newspaper. "That s what an automaker is supposed to do evolve the species, not be paralyzed by it."
While it is not the first two-car entry from an auto-maker, the Chrysler Group assault is one of the highest profile trips to Targa of any manufacturer. Last year, two-car efforts were fielded by BMW(MINI), Kia, Mazda and Subaru, and while manufacturers have won individual class honours, none have won an overall Division in the three previous Targa Newfoundland events.
The fourth annual Targa Newfoundland rally for historic, classic and modern sporting cars covers 2,100 kilometres of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of the island of Newfoundland over six days, including more than 500 kilometres of closed-road, flat-out Targa Stages.
Competitors have come from the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Holland, the Bahamas and the U.K. for the first three editions of Targa Newfoundland, the Ultimate North American Motorsport Adventure. The rally starts in the capital city of St. Johns with registration and technical inspection on Saturday, September 10 and finishes back in St. John s a week later. Targa Newfoundland is owned and organized by Newfoundland International Motorsports and is sanctioned by the Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS) and ASN Canada FIA.

Saturday June 4th’s DIRT Weekly Racing Series program will feature the only Southern Ontario/Western New York appearance of Big Block Modified action in 2005.
Rounding out the evening presented by Meridian Credit Union will be the Original Pizza Logs Sportsmen, Dwarf Cars, Hoosier Stocks and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders.
The BRP Big Block Modified Tour runs at tracks such as Sharon, Mercer and Tri-City.
Defending Series Champion Ron Smoker won the Merrittville Modified title in 1991 and he was in last year’s field. Up until their visit last season, it had been 12 years since a Big Block Modified event had been run at the Thorold Track.
It was a Skoal Inc. Racing Super DIRT Series event now presented by Advance Auto Parts and many race fans still remember the incredible event with Smoker passing Brett Hearn out of turn 4 with the checkered flag in sight. Ironically Smoker was in a small block.

SAD NEWS: Legendary racer Brian Setterington dies at age 62
Brian Setterington, who died Tuesday, began racing dragsters in 1964.
He moved to dirt ovals before beginning a full time racing career on asphalt in 1970. A regular competitor at Cayuga International Speedway, Brian’s #54 STP sponsored car raced against such notable drivers as Jerry Makara, Don Biederman, Earl Ross and Junior Hanley.
His driving style and mannerism have been compared to those of his sponsor’s American counterpart, Richard Petty. For visitation and funeral information go to www.mccollracing.com.

JCAR RACING: Preview

HERE WE GO! The 2005 JCAR racing season starts next weekend (May 28) at Varney Motor Speedway in Mount Forest, Ontario. This could be your last chance to see the trucks' and cars' paint in perfect condition. All of the drivers are raring to tear up the track for the first time in 2005.
We have many new faces in the JCAR community this season. A bunch of the new drivers joining the JCAR family are Mat Johnson will be driving the #15 13hp truck/car. Stephen Goldner(#30) and brother Kyle Goldner(#60) will be piloting a couple mini-trucks. Brandon Ronald will be making appearances in his #97 9hp car, and Eddie Swales will also take to the track in his #23 9hp car.
Tom Tanner will be driving the #32 solid 13hp car, and his daughter Megan Tanner will be driving the #89 9hp car. There are a few more new drivers to look for as well. Those drivers will be announced shortly.
There has also been a bunch of drivers that have taken the step up from the 9hp cars to the 13hp trucks. Brandon Thurlby(#2) will be driving a brand new mini-truck. David Sharpe(#55) has purchased a mini-truck over the winter.
Brady Bice(#5) will be doing double duty as he is planning on racing both his 9hp car and will also driving a 13hp truck, which they purchased over the winter. Corey Moesker(#39) will be making the step up from the 9hp cars to the mini truck series and has high hopes for the 2005 season. Ryan Minke's chances of winning have increased over the winter as they have sold off the solid 13hp chassis, and has bought a suspended mini-truck.
The 2004 JCAR 9hp Champion, Jesse Pontello of St. Catharines, has been given the opportunity by Quaker State to race the #36 Vintage Modified race car this season, but may make a couple of appearances in a mini-truck in 2005.
Louis Dejardine of Parkhill, will be defending his title of the 'JCAR 13hp Champion' in 2005 as he will again be driving the #35 truck.
I believe I speak for all of the JCAR competitors when I say that it's definitely time to go racing again! See you at the track!

Andy Brumbaugh returns to Canada with The Racer’s Group
Columbia, SC – May 18, 2005 – 2001 Canadian Formula Ford Champion Andy Brumbaugh and The Racer’s Group will team to assault the Mont-Tremblant Circuit in this weekend’s 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant of the Rolex Sports Car Series. Andy will come back to the soil that saw him become the first and only American to win the Canadian Pro Formula Ford 1600 Championship. Co-drivers Marc Bullock and Dave Master will join him behind the wheel of The Racer’s Group Porsche GT3 Cup number 63.
The circumstances of Andy’s return to Canada are exceptional on many levels. “Coming back to Canada is already special, explained Andy, but doing it behind the wheel of a Porsche GT3 Cup is the realization of a dream of mine. Ever since I’ve been chosen for a Porsche factory test in Leipzig, Germany in 2002, I’ve hoped I could race a Porsche in a Sports Car race. I can’t think of a better team to make this dream come true than The Racer’s Group. I know I can count on an accomplished group of individuals and I can’t wait to take the track and start working for the win.”
TRG’s Team Owner Kevin Buckler feels he has all the angles covered for another strong showing in the GT class this weekend in Mont-Tremblant. “We’ve seen many great drivers join us over the years, and we’re confident we’ve found another one with Andy, confided Kevin. Andy is a truly talented driver, and we hope to tap into what may be a special edge over the field, coming back to Canada where he’s been so successful in the past. We’re excited to count him in, and with Marc (Bullock) and Dave (Master), I’m expecting great things.”
Although it will be Andy’s first race in the GT class of the Rolex Sports Car Series, it’s not his first in Grand-Am sanctioned events. Last year, he took part in the Grand-Am Cup, scoring sixth on his first outing driving for BGB Motorsports, and joining Team Lexus for the remainder of the 2004 campaign.
The 6-hour enduro is scheduled to take the green flag at 11:00 AM, Saturday May 21. The race will be broadcast live on the SPEED Channel.

KELLER CAPTURES FIRST LEG OF IMCA/CANADIAN MODIFIED CHALLENGE AT THUNDER ALLEY
EVANS MILLS, NY.....Many drivers coming through the gates Friday night at Caprara's Thunder Alley Speedpark were making their first visit to the Evans Mills, NY oval as competitors in the Canadian Modified division at Brighton Speedway Park joined Thunder Alley's IMCA Modified regulars for the first race of a four race series between the two speedways.
For Rob Keller, the extra competition proved to be good motivation, as he held off challenges from IMCA and Canadian Modified competitors over the 25-lap feature distance to score the win. Keller took the lead early and survived numerous restarts and challenges to park his Dirt Works chassis in victory lane. "It was a fun night," Keller said in the victory lane interview. "We had a bunch of the Canadian Modified competitors pitted around us, and it gave us a chance to make some new racing friends. We're looking forward to making a trip to Brighton to race against them on their home turf."
While Keller pulled away in the second half of the feature event, Canadian Modified racer Doug O'Blenis battled with IMCA regular Chris Taylor and his namesake from the Canadian Modified division. In the end, O'Blenis came home the runnerup, with the two Taylors in third and fourth. Dan Archibald completed the top five. 4 IMCA Modified regulars and 6 Canadian Modifieds made up the top ten finishers.
The series continues on Sunday, May 22nd at the Dirt Works Victoria Day Weekend event at Brighton Speedway Park.

TSN.ca - Auto Racing - Canada's Sports Leader: "CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - Kurt Busch has been ordered by NASCAR to start behaving like a champion. His first test will be the All-Star race, an event at which Busch has struggled to stay out of trouble.
The defending Nextel Cup champion has had at least two gaffes in the $1-million US race, including triggering an 11-car accident last year that wrecked both Busch and teammate Greg Biffle. CASCAR Super Series season kicks off this weekend at Delaware Speedway with the MOPAR 250
LONDON, ON - The CASCAR Super Series is set to take the green flag on its 2005 season, and that means the tour is headed to London’s Delaware Speedway for the MOPAR 250 on the May long weekend.
On the heels of a highly successful CASCAR Media Day, held Tuesday, May 17 at the new Toronto-area NASCAR Speedpark, the attention of the racers, teams and fans now turns to Delaware’s half-mile oval. Qualifying for the MOPAR 250 takes place on Saturday afternoon, while the season-opener is slated to start on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The main question on everyone’s minds is whether or not anyone in is up to the task of denying CASCAR’s four-time and reigning champ, Don Thomson Jr., in his ‘drive for five’.
Thomson didn’t have a target on his Home Hardware jacket at Media Day, but he may as well have. The Hamilton, ON racer has set the bar in Canadian motorsports over the past six seasons winning two CASCAR Eastern Series titles immediately prior to his astounding run of four-straight CASCAR Super Series National crowns.

If Thomson is feeling the heat of having Canada’s top stock car racers poised to knock him off the top of the hill, he isn’t letting it show. “We’re going into the season with high hopes,” said Thomson, at Media Day. “Obviously, our plan is to do it all again; but it’s tough. There are a lot of good competitors out there and we’ve managed to squeak out four championships in a row. All we can do is try to come to the track with the best cars we can, and try to drive smart.”
Thomson continued, “The thing we were really excited about last year was the number of poles we won; that’s our goal again. I know there’s a lot of attention on us right now, but I’m really trying to have faith in our team and in the car and stay settled down. Last year, I had no choice but to turn up the wick because Peter Gibbons started out of the gate so fast.”
Speaking of Gibbons, the usually soft-spoken veteran was talking a little ‘trash’ at Media Day, trying to get into Thomson’s head in advance of the MOPAR 250. Discussing his goals and plans for ’05, the Canadian Tire Chevy driver said, “Maybe if we used Donnie’s theory of winning the points and not races, we would have more championships. But I would rather win races. Donnie does a real good job and I think he could win more races if he’d step up the bar a bit and take that chance on the edge like I do… for us, it’s all about running up front and winning races.”
At the outset of the CASCAR Super Series season, CASCAR founder and President Tony Novotny is excited about the momentum the series has built during the off-season.
“I’m pumped up. It’s great to see the enthusiasm surrounding the series. The cars and drivers look great and we had an amazing media turnout today. I don’t think we’ve ever had as much interest in the series at this point in the season, and that’s a great reflection on the teams and all of the hard work they’ve done in the off-season.
“The alignment with NASCAR certainly didn’t hurt,” continued Novotny. “We were also happy to introduce the new Dodge Charger today in such a public way. Put all of the good news and momentum into the pot, stir it up, and it’s a pretty good deal. The ‘shiny side’ is definitely up!”
CASCAR WESTERN SERIES: The first race of the CASCAR Western Series takes place on Sunday afternoon at Sun Valley Motor Speedway, in Vernon, BC. The KISS FM 200 will see reigning Western Series champ Kevin Dowler start his 2005 title defense.

Dodge looking forward to partnership with Mark Dilley
For the first time in his 15 year career with CASCAR, Mark Dilley will be changing numbers from his customary #64 to #9 on his Dodge vehicle, made famous in the NASCAR racing series.
Dilley will be representing Dodge in the #9 Dodge Charger for four of the twelve Premier Stockcar Racing Super Series races in 2005. Two of the races are sponsored by the Ontario Dodge Dealers and two by MOPAR. Since 1966, total Dodge Charger wins in the NASCAR circuit total 125 including the recent victory on Saturday night.

NBIS: Announces new division....
Rowboat Racing to be New Division? No… NBIS Hoping for Good Weather. Finally.
Fredericton, NB – You will have to excuse NBIS management for considering rowboat racing in the infield as a new division – after two weeks of rain, it’s a reasonable thought. However, at this point NBIS is only looking forward to finally opening the season this Sunday and getting their regular divisions underway. The event is co-sponsored by Riverview Ford Lincoln and Dairy Queen and will feature racing in all three regular divisions plus a number of off-track events. The green flag flies at 2pm on Sunday, May 22nd.
Unfortunately, it has been a soggy start to the season. The Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener was cancelled two weeks ago due to rain, then last weekend’s Kid’s Day Presented by Dairy Queen fell to the weather. April showers brings May flowers, but what do May showers bring? NBIS hopes less rain over the summer and great racing. “While its disappointing to have consecutive rainouts, we are optimistic that the weather will clear up and that it will be a drier summer” said NBIS General Manager Gord Curran, “On a positive note, we may finally have grass in the infield.” Also on the bright side, NBIS finally got their practice in last Saturday after two attempts.
Another positive is that the season will begin with a bigger bang than usual. In a unique co-sponsorship arrangement, Riverview Ford Lincoln will present the on-track events while Dairy Queen will present the off-track Kid’s Day activities. “We really appreciate the way Riverview and Dairy Queen came together for this event,” said Curran, “Both were very understanding of the circumstances and receptive to a co-sponsorship arrangement.”
While the adults will be concerned with following the on-track action which features points racing in the CARQUEST Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, and Coast Tire Street Stocks Divisions, kids will be looking forward to Dairy Queen’s off-track events. The kid’s activities are highlighted by the in-the-pits pre-race autograph session from 1pm-2pm - where kids get to meet their favourite driver in the pits - and a candy scramble on the front stretch during intermission. Last year, the kids picked up 50kg of candy in less than 2 minutes. “They are the only thing faster than the cars on that day,” said Curran. DQ also announced that their mascot, Curly Top, will be at the speedway. There will also additional surprises for the kids.
As part of their sponsorship, Dairy Queen is offering a limited amount of free youth tickets (ages 9-15) this week at Dairy Queen locations on Prospect St and Union St. in Fredericton. Just ask for a free youth ticket upon purchase of any DQ item.

Brad Graham and the Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts car were on the track and turning laps at the annual Mopar Day at Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario and afterwards they pronounced themselves ready to go for the 2005 CASCAR Super Series campaign.
“This team has really taken a step forward” proclaimed Graham. “Our support over the years from Challenger has been unwavering and that’s allowed us to do the things necessary to grow and become successful in CASCAR”.
This is the first year that Brad Graham will campaign a Mopar powered Dodge in the CASCAR Super Series. Owner of Logel’s Auto Parts John Logel felt that it would be a wise move to make the switch, especially after Graham had so much success last year with Mopar power last season, winning the CASCAR Sportsman Series title.
“Mopar Day was probably one of the best test days we’ve ever had, we’re really happy with this car already, it pulls so nicely down the straightaway, you can really feel the Beauchamp motor under the hood” stated Brad Graham. “I’m sure that as this seasons moves along and we begin to understand even better how this Mopar power is best applied to our car then we’ll continue to improve “.
The CASCAR Super Series opens competition on the Victoria Day long weekend at Delaware Speedway located just outside London, Ontario where Graham is a former track champion. Also on site this weekend will be the Challenger Motor Freight “Recruitment Coaches”. Challenger is always looking for top notch drivers and mechanics to join their team, those interested should make a point to stop by when attending the race.
Brad Graham and the entire crew are making final preparations for Mopar 250 at Delaware, and even though there’s the last minute rush to put final details in order things look good for the opening event. “I’m really happy with our team so far” said Graham “and we’re ahead of where we usually are at this time of year. It’s taking a bit longer than usual to put the finishing touches on the car because of the new design but we’re ready. The entire team is looking forward to this new Mopar powered Charger hitting the track for the first race”.

CASCAR stages events at the most famous oval tracks in Canada such as Cayuga Speedway and Delaware Speedway and also competes on temporary street circuits at the Molson Indy events. BRIGHTON: 2004 CHAMPION WELCOMED BACK TO BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY PARK
Local favourite, Dan Ferguson, 2004 Canadian Modified Champion, will be returning to his “home” track and increasing his power as he competes in his 358 Modified during the upcoming Victoria Day Dirt Works Weekend. “We are excited to have Dan come back and show us what he can do with all of that power. We are sure that he, and the rest of the drivers coming to visit Brighton Speedway Park, will put on a show that is exciting, noisy and fast. Grassroots racing fans from all over Ontario and parts of the United States will make sure to attend this first ever event,” says Operations Manager Mark Rinaldi.

It wouldn’t be a DIRT WORKS Weekend without the regular 7:30pm Saturday Night Green Flag. Included in the May 21st program is the “General Mills Race to Read” celebration. All of the kids who participated in this great program have received passes to attend and the winner will be presenting the trophies on behalf of General Mills, Trenton. MOSPORT CONCERT STAGE READY TO ROCK
Bowmanville, ON - May 17, 2005: The sounds of music will blend with the roar of racing at the Victoria Day Weekend SpeedFest, May 20th, 21st and 22nd.
Mosport International Raceway is your entertainment destination this coming long weekend. In addition to the camping and racing that has established the tradition of this weekend, fireworks and music have been added to the festivities.
The Mosport Concert Stage will feature a full line-up of veteran touring bands and local acts to put the "Fest" into SpeedFest. Music is planned throughout the afternoon and evening, Saturday and Sunday, with plenty of opportunities to sit back and enjoy the tunes.
The matinees get under way at approximately 3:00 pm each day highlighting several local bands. As we reach the dinner hour Saturday The Carpet Frogs will take to the stage for a two-hour set.
They'll be followed by The Midlife Crisis Band to play out the night. Moving to Sunday evening The Mason Dixon Band takes over for a couple hours, and then Just Alice rocks the stage to wrap up the Victoria Day Weekend SpeedFest celebrations.
And don't forget about the fireworks Sunday! Shortly after dusk we'll light up the sky with an awesome fireworks show.
A Three-day Superticket is only $45.00 until May 18th, going to $55 after. Each ticket includes free parking, paddock access, all activities and Saturday Night Stock Car racing at Mosport Speedway.
An Advanced 3-day weekend general camping pass is just $25.00 (For tents or pop-up trailers. Fee is charged on a per vehicle basis, maximum 6 people). Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a paid adult admission. Single day tickets are also available.
