Brockville Speedway Rained Out June 11

BROCKVILLE-The track was prepared, everything was ready to go, but about 10 minutes before hot laps were scheduled to hit the track at Brockville Ontario Speedway, mother nature intervened. Rain that began as sprinkles turned into a steady flow from above prompting officials to cancel the June 11th racing program at the Beast of the East. It's the second rainout of the season in five weeks of scheduled competition.
Next Saturday June 18th the Brockville Ontario Speedway features the DOUBLE TIME DEAL BREAKER !!! This event will feature double points, double laps and of course DOUBLE PURSE for all classes !! This night will have a big impact for many drivers and teams as they battle it out for the coveted BOS Track Championship in their respective divisions. Plus, brand new this year is the 1000 Islands RV Double Dash for Cash! Eight 358 drivers as determined by the fans will race for cash in a 10 lap dash! Fans have been asked to go to the track website at Brockvillespeedway.com and vote for their favourities to pick the 8 starters for some extra cash. The green flag drops at 7pm
The Speedway's Wednesday night go kart program also fell victim to the rain this week. The karters have yet to hit the track 2011, they will try again this coming Wednesday night at 7.

KAWARTHA SPEEDWAY: June 17 Event Preview

FRASERVILLE, ON – After starting the 2011 campaign with a spectacular night of action Friday, June 3rd, Kawartha Speedway took a quick break.  The Fraserville, Ontario oval roars back to life Friday, June 17th with a full show featuring the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, Better Carpet Thunder Cars and NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models.  The featured attraction will be a 100 lap invitational event for the late models – the first of 3 extra distance events on this year’s calendar – that will see Kawartha’s best defend the home track honours against the invaders.

After an early season wreck caused him to miss most of the 2009 season, Craig Graham had fellow competitor Dan McHattie put a new clip on a machine he’d picked-up from Chris Mitchell and rebounded for a solid 8th place finish in 2010.  The father of 2 saw that performance helped him gained a renewed sense of confidence where his on-track abilities are concerned.  The Orono, Ontario racer says he looks forward to the extra distance races on the schedule each year.

“The car goes through a number of changes in our weekly features and you’ll have to be ready to make some adjustments if you hope to be around at the end of a race that’s 4 times as long,” said Graham.  “We work toward finding a neutral set-up during the practice sessions and then do what we can with the car during the race.  We start with a full tank of fuel, but as that burns off and the tires start to go away, we could need to change the line we’re running or adjust the brake bias to get the most out of what the car has to offer.  Track temperature and weather conditions can also play a role in how the car works on the performs.”

If the opening night of action – where each of the 3 main events had at least 5 drivers battling for the win – is any indication, fans can look forward to a spectacular 2011 season at Kawartha Speedway.  Gates open at 3:00 Friday, June 17th with practice starting at 5:00 and the first green flag at 7:00.  As always, fans can find the latest track news and the complete season’s schedule at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

The Saturday festivities will wrap up with a free evening concert for the fans. Approximately 30 minutes following the completion of the Alliance Truck Parts 250 NASCAR Nationwide race, fans will be treated to a concert featuring Emerson Drive. Emerging country music singer-songwriter Jacob Lyda will perform the opening act. The concert will be held at the Jagermeister Stage in the New Holland Fan Plaza.

Gates open to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Throughout the day, fans will be able to roam the New Holland Fan Plaza to check out all the fun and interactive displays, including a revamped MIS Cares Kids Zone.

Reserved seats for Saturday are available and start as low as $40. Admission for kids ages 13-17 are half price and, as always, children 12 & under are free.

MOSPORT: Looking ahead to the Vortex Brake Pads 200

MOSPORT, ON - In two weeks, Mosport International Raceway welcomes the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for their second outing this season, this time on the 3.96 km road course for the exciting Vortex Brake Pads 200 on June 24-26.

Headlining the three-day weekend is Canada's top stock car championship, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  These machines will take to Mosport's road course for their fourth race of the season on Sunday June 26.

Defending Series champion D.J. Kennington will be challenged by Nationwide regular J.R. Fiitzpatrick, Dickies 200 winner Scott Steckly, Don Thompson Jr., Jason Hathaway, Kerry Micks and coming off his first Series victory, long-time Mosport road racer Robin Buck.  Local racers Joey McColm and Dave Thorndyke will also make their season debuts.

The country's top sedan road-racing series, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, makes its second of three season stops at Mosport, boasting more than a 30-car field featuring many up-and-coming drivers including NHL star Marc-Andre Bergeron, competing in Touring and Super Touring classes. This is a doubleheader weekend for the Championship.

The popular Ontario Formula Ford Championship (OFFC) - F1600 returns to Mosport for the second of six trips this season.  Winner of the first two races - veteran driver Shane Jantzi, will look to continue on his success at one of the most challenging road courses in the world.

The Porsche 944 Cup will be making its Mosport debut this weekend, holding three races in total.  The Series, dedicated to the front engine Porsche 944 features competitive racing in two classes, Cup and Super Cup.

Racing starts Friday (June 24) with a full-day of testing for all series' but the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  Saturday (June 25) will have both practice and qualifying in the morning, followed by races for the Castrol Touring cars, OFFC-F1600 and Porsche 944 Cup. Sunday (June 26) morning opens with more qualifying and then races in Porsche 944 Cup, NASCAR, Castrol Touring and OFFC-F1600 to close out the weekend.

The three-day weekend SuperTicket is just $50 until June 22 ($60 at the Gate). Single-day tickets are also available.  Each ticket includes parking, access to the race team paddock, Mosport Expo and Marketplace and admission to Mosport Speedway's Saturday Night Stock Car Racing at the half-mile paved oval located on the grounds.  As with all Mosport events, children 12 and under are admitted for free when accompanied by a paid adult admission.

Camping is a popular part of the Mosport experience, with advanced general camping passes just $35 for the weekend when purchased before June 22 (tents or pop-up trailers).  Advance RV passes are $55.

For those who would like to get closer to the action, the Grand Prix Club offers a VIP hospitality package which includes a fully catered BBQ lunch, beverages and bar service (beer and wine) on Race Day.  The GP Club Chalet tent is located trackside, overlooking the start/finish straight and corner one.  Passes are just $100 and are also good for admission to the event on Friday and Saturday.

RICHARD CHILDRESS: “Here is the deal. I am going to make one statement on this deal. I appreciate everyone’s patience during the last week when I couldn’t talk to everyone. The main thing is I take all the responsibility for my actions last week. I am very passionate about this sport. I am passionate about my race teams, our fans and I let my emotions get…come in front of my passion. But that is behind us.

“I guess the next thing is the fine that was levied against me, I’m going to pay it personal. I agree that NASCAR should have done something with me. I don’t agree that they didn’t handle the situation that happened on the cool-down lap.

“With that said, we had a lot of fans to send in donations last week toward our fine, I am going to pay it personally. All that money that has been sent in, that is still coming in, we’re going to take and donate to the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma. At least in every bad situation, something good will come out of it.

“Hopefully Kyle (Busch) and myself will both end up learning something from this. Thank you all very much. Talk to you later. That’s it.”

F1 MONTREAL: The Grand Prix du Canada... sold out!

MONTREAL, QC - Octane Racing Group announces that all grandstand tickets for the 2011 edition of the Grand Prix du Canada have been sold. As of 5 pm on Thursday, only one-day or three-day general admission tickets are available for the event.

"The unfailing support of the race fans enables us once again to make the Grand Prix du Canada one of, or if not, the most popular event of the Formula 1 season," said François Dumontier, President of the Grand Prix du Canada and Octane Racing Group, promoter of the event. In addition, Thursday's 'Open House Day' saw a great response with an estimated 15,000 fans visiting the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a significant increase on last year. Starting tomorrow morning, Friday June 10, race fans can purchase tickets for the 2012 Grand Prix du Canada at either the box office located next to Métro Station Jean-Drapeau, online at www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca, of by calling 514 350-0000.

FLAMBORO: Grisdale and Spira Racing Mini-stocks on tap this Saturday

HAMILTON, ON - The Grisdale Late Models return to action this Saturday night (June 11) at Flamboro Speedway, prepared for double duty. First the premier class will start the night with the completion of the first Grisdale Triple Crown tournament race, postponed from Saturday May 28th.  Then the teams will be back on track for another 30 lap regularly scheduled feature race event.  A special start time of 5:00 p.m. has been set for this weekend's show.

The Grisdale Triple Crown tournament kicked-off the summer season three-race series on Saturday May 28th, but unexpected rain showers late in the evening brought the race to a screeching halt.  Only 8 laps into the scheduled 75 lap main event, with a full field of top racing talent from across Ontario, speedway management was forced to end the night.

The postponed feature race will start the night's program, picking up at lap 9 with #56 Jeff Stewart leading #37 David Elliott.

Revised start times for SATURDAY JUNE 11:  Pit gates open at 2pm.  Grandstand opens at 4pm.  Green Flag start at 5pm.

Also part of the Saturday night program is the community Food Bank Drive.  All fans are encouraged to bring a canned or dry food donation in support of the community food bank.

OHSWEKEN: Youth in Uniform and Mod-Lites join Friday Night Thunder tonight!

Ohsweken Speedway's 16th season began last week with round one of Friday Night Thunder, featuring the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers. They'll be back this Friday, June 10 along with the first visit of the season by the Mod-Lite Stars Championship North Tour.

Friday is "Youth Uniform Night" at Ohsweken, with all parents/guardians of kids in uniform (sports, brownies/scouts, etc.) receiving half price admission. Kids in uniform will also have a chance to half their picture taken in the Engine Pro Racing Winner's Circle with a Friday Night Thunder feature winner.

Kyle Moffit dominated the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car feature last week, while Larry Czinege, Jr. won the Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stock race, Karl Sault won both a heat race and feature in his HRW Mini Stock debut, and Rodney Rutherford topped the list in Pierced Parts Bomber action.

Paul Klager won two of three Mod-Lite features held at Ohsweken in 2010, and is always the man to beat when the Stars North Tour is in town. Derek Moore also collected a Mod-Lite feature win at the track last year.

NCATS: Race winner Robin Buck penalized for rules violations at Circuit ICAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 9, 2011) – NASCAR announced today the No. 66 team that competes in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series has been penalized as a result of rules violations committed Sunday, June 5, at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec.

The team was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20E-5.10.1A (Carburetor Eligibility: The carburetor must remain as supplied by the NASCAR-approved supplier – Unapproved carburetor modification to the venturi location and carburetor boosters.) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book. The violations were discovered during post-race inspection on June 5.

Robin Buck, driver of car No. 66, has been penalized with the loss of 100 championship driver points.

Randy Gray, crew chief of the No. 66 car, has been fined $5,000. Suspended from NASCAR until fine is paid. Placed on NASCAR probation for the next two (2) NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Events. Placed on NASCAR probation until June 29, 2011.

Car owner Sandra D’Angelo, car owner of car No. 66, has been penalized with the loss of 100 championship owner points.

Stellar weekend for RACE 101 students present and past; Career best finishes and numerous wins for Team RACE 101

June 6, 2011, DENVER, NC – Students and graduates of RACE 101 presented by Howe Racing Enterprises enjoyed success across North America this weekend with numerous victories and career best finishes.
Topping the list of achievements was current student Trevor Sanborn winning the Pro Series late model feature at Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Sanborn’s accomplishment is significant because it is the first win for the RACE 101-designed Howe late model.
“We had a great night at Beech Ridge,” said Sanborn after the race. “We had two features to run, and the car just kept getting better all night long.”
Sanborn started 12th and 14th respectively in the two events, and he scored a win along with a fourth place finish.


Elsewhere RACE 101 graduate Adam Leslie earned his first career victory in the DIRTcar Sportsman division at Merrittville Speedway near Niagara Falls, Ontario. Leslie came close a week prior leading 29 of 30 laps at Humberstone Speedway, but this time he kept the lead at the finish.
“This is so exciting,” said Leslie. “We moved up to the Sportsman division last year, and it was a big step for me. I’m glad we’ve been able to put our education to use. The car was great.”


At Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, New Hampshire, impressive 12-year-old Tommy Stilphen led every lap en route to victory in the Maine Modifieds.


Not every RACE 101 student enjoyed happy endings on the weekend. Young Brandon Atkinson crossed the finish line first at East Lincoln Speedway in North Carolina, but the late model that weighed 100 pounds overweight early in the day came up light by eight pounds. The team has plenty to be proud of, but the results don’t reflect their successful outing.


Sarah Cornett-Ching made her debut in the ASA late model division at Motoplex Speedway near Vernon, British Columbia. She cut a tire with just more than a lap to go passing for a top-five finish, and she had to limp around on a flat right front to wind up eighth.
“It was really disappointing to not finish where we should have,” said Cornett-Ching. “The car was amazing. Tony Blanchard helped us with the shocks, and I couldn’t believe how well the car drove through the center of the turns and off.”


Blanchard is the founder and main instructor at RACE 101 – an acronym for Research, Analyze, Consult, and Educate 1 on 1. Halfway through the program’s second year, Blanchard is content with the progress.
“It’s taken a long time, but weeks like this are the reason we started RACE 101,” said Blanchard. “Our students are using what they’ve learned in so many different applications it’s amazing.


“We have kids racing on dirt in open wheel cars applying the same knowledge as other students racing fendered cars on asphalt. We’re extremely proud of the entire group.”

NASCAR Expands Scope of Weekly & Touring Series Operations

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 8, 2011) – NASCAR announced today changes designed to increase support for NASCAR’s developmental racing series, both at the weekly racing and regional touring levels.

The moves reflect a continuation of the corporate strategic initiatives recently announced by NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France. Those have involved the creation of a consolidated intellectual property effort guided by NASCAR Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Jim O’Connell along with promotions within NASCAR’s executive leadership team including the elevation of George Silbermann to vice president, regional and touring series.

“Under George Silbermann’s leadership, the touring and weekly series department has helped NASCAR develop a solid foundation for our member tracks, sponsors, teams and our fans,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “These new initiatives highlight the emphasis that NASCAR puts on those series that are the heart and soul of our sport, and underscore the importance we see to the weekly and touring series’ growth and evolution.”

Additionally, Bob Duvall will head the newly-created position of NASCAR director, weekly and touring business development. He will be charged with creating and leading the Daytona-based arm of the consolidated intellectual property group, focused specifically on NASCAR’s weekly racing and regional touring series. Duvall will initially be supported by one new sales team member.

Duvall, in his 12th season with NASCAR, has been instrumental in Whelen Engineering’s entitlement sponsorship of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, and K&N Engineering’s entitlement sponsorship of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series.

Also Kevin Nevalainen, senior manager, weekly racing operations, will now directly oversee all marketing, promotion and administration of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, NASCAR’s North American grassroots weekly racing program. Meghan Miley has been promoted to senior manager, touring series operations, and will now oversee all marketing, promotion and administration of NASCAR’s regional touring series.  Both senior managers will report into Duvall, whose new role will encompass both racing operations and sales. 

In addition, Brett Tisdale will join the racing operations department beginning next week as coordinator, weekly and touring racing operations to support both important developmental areas of the sport, while also overseeing the day-to-day administration of NASCAR’s international series.

More open wheel action than ever at the Edmonton Indy

Edmonton, June 8, 2011 - Future stars of open-wheel racing will have a unique opportunity to display their talent in front of the 2011 Edmonton Indy crowd, as the July 22-24 event at City Centre Airport will feature two rounds of the Firestone Indy Lights Series (FIL). Octane Motorsports Events, promoter of Western Canada's major auto racing weekend, has also announced the return this year of the NASCC Eurasia GT Invitational and of the Canadian Drift Mania Championship programs.

"We are glad to host two rounds of the Firestone Indy Lights Series at this year's Edmonton Indy," said François Dumontier, President of Octane Motorsports Events. "Our spectators will get a real open-wheel racing treat, no less than 12 hours of track time with IndyCar and Indy Lights racing. It also guarantees the fans a maximum number of entries on the Indy Lights grid. With this doubleheader, coming to Edmonton is now very attractive for teams and drivers. There is going to be good money and lot of points to collect as they will get to challenge our new exciting course twice in one weekend," also said Dumontier. "Last year, only 13 cars made the field and adding more cars on the track for 2011 means more action for the fans!"

Hosting two rounds of a major open-wheel support series will not be a first for the Edmonton event. For two consecutive years, the Atlantic Championship ran a doubleheader over the weekend. Current AFS Racing car # 17 driver in the IZOD IndyCar Series, Brazilian Raphael Matos collected the two wins in 2007. Canadian James Hinchcliffe, who graduated this season to the IZOD IndyCar Series Newman-Haas Racing team, won last year's FIL race in Edmonton.

The 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series race will have three Canadian drivers on the grid - Hinchcliffe, Tagliani and Tracy. There has already been two young national hopefuls announced for the Firestone Indy Lights doubleheader including Mikaël Grenier in the O2 Racing Technology car #63 (Québec City, Québec) and David Ostella in the Jensen MotorSport car #16 (Maple, Ontario). At 19, both drivers are in their rookie season in FIL and are respectively 7th and 8th in the standings. So far this year, Grenier earned one Top 5 and four Top 10 positions, while Ostella took one Top 5 and three Top 10 positions.

The NASCC Eurasia GT Invitational has been scheduled for Sunday morning again so Northern Alberta's sports car drivers will have the opportunity to race in front of the Edmonton Indy crowd. More than 50 cars and drivers in five categories will be on track for this popular race. Drift Mania Canadian Championship will also have the opportunity to try out the new design when these skilled drifters hit the track Friday and Saturday morning.

CTCCC - DM Compétition : a first weekend of adaptation

June 7th 2011.– The past weekend was one of adaptation for the team of DM Compétition, in the Canadian Touring Car Championship series at the Grand Prix ICAR in Mirabel. Though the beginning of the event was disappointing, obvious improvements were made throughout the weekend.

Friday was a day to forget. During the morning tryouts, driver Jacques Deshaies had to abandon due to a new set of wheels, unadapted to the car. During the afternoon qualifying session, the momentum was cut short due to electrical issues.

The improvements made on car #27 started paying off on Saturday. Familiarizing himself with his four-wheel steed, Jacques Deshaies managed to finish the race only a lap down from the leader, a satisfying performance considering the previous day’s results.

The team’s performance continued to improve on Sunday,  finishing the race on the same lap as the race leader and posting the best lap of the whole week end with a 2 second improvement on Saturday’s time.

The team is very satisfied with these first encouraging results. The car will benefit from aditionnal testing in preparation of the next event, in August.

DM Compétition will attend the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières and will this time aim for a better ranking. Classes are over, time to get down to serious business!

Chris Unrau Sweeps Morden the Hard Way

Greg Cybulski, MORDEN, MB (June 5, 2011) Winkler, Manitoba's Chris Unrau earned his first Northern Lightning Sprint Association win of 2011, but it didn't come easy. The driver of the #27 Lightning Sprint won both his heat race and the feature with both his car and the competition running against him.

Starting on the front row of his heat beside the #10 of Amber Balcaen, who took the lead and appeared to be on her way to victory. Unrau found himself chasing down Balcaen during the caution-free race and was struggling to catch up. Finally, with the white flag showing, Chris was able to get close enough to make his move.

Entering turn one, Unrau struck and dove into turn two to pass Balcaen and take the lead down the backstretch. Keeping the car on the bottom, he could see the checkered flag when all of a sudden, the chain of his engine ripped rendering his Lightning Sprint powerless. Fortunately for Unrau, he had built up enough of a lead to coast to the finish line to win his heat race.

"It was spectacular!" shared Chris about his win. "I got a push back into the pits and our team worked on getting the #27 ready for the feature."

At the beginning of the feature race, Unrau started on the outside of the first row, this time beside NLSA rookie Mike Sapinski in the #77X Lightning Sprint. Chris got the jump he needed to take the lead going into turn one and never looked back. Despite three cautions and strong challenges by #64 Tyson Hiebert and #4C Chris Bouwman who gave the him everything he could handle, Chris Unrau ran the perfect race and came home with his first win of the NLSA season.

"Despite some significant mechanical challenges, we pulled together as a team and overcame them to put the #27 in the win column." stated a relieved Unrau,

Rounding up the top 5 was Chris Unrau, Tyson Hiebert, Chris Bouwman, Bob Saindon and Amber Balcaen.

Heat races were won by Chris Unrau and Tyson Hiebert.

New England's Pro All Stars Series hits Speedway 660 on June 11

FREDERICTON, NB - Saturday June 11th under the lights, The Pro All Star Series (PASS) will make their return to Speedway 660 for 200 laps of action packed excitement.  This is a chance for fans to see some of the best drivers in the Northeast go toe to toe in the Geary woods.  The event will be the Pro All Star Series only Atlantic Canadian stop on their 2011 schedule.

Speedway 660 has a great schedule of events for 2011, but the PASS 200 is right up there with SPEEDWEEKEND’s Auto Value 250. In terms of talent, excitement and drama the Pro All Star Series has it all. Johnny Clark will try to continue his string of dominating performances at Speedway 660. You’ll remember that Clark won both the PASS 200 and the Auto Value 250 last season.

This is the third PASS North event of the year. Johnny Clark won the season opener at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, down in Maine and Derek Ramstrom took top spot at STAR Speedway in New Hampshire. A May 21st race at White Mountain Motorsports Park was rained out and will be rescheduled for later this summer.

Lonnie Sommerville, a two time Auto Value 250 winner, who is running full time on the PASS tour this year, finished fourth in both races. Sommerville will look to improve that result this weekend on his home track.

Other drivers expected to make the trip to Speedway 660 for the Pro All Star Series 200 include, multi time PASS North Champion Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine, Cassius Clark from Farmington, Maine, and Belfast, Maine’s Travis Benjamin.  Also expected to be there is 2006 Auto Value 250 Champion, Scott Chubbuck.  As well, we will see some familiar faces like Kirk Thibeau of Presque Isle, Maine. Kirk has had a lot of success throughout the years competing at Speedway 660 as was the winner of the inaugural Auto Value 250 back in 2001.   

All these guys as well as legendary Maine driver Mike Rowe, Ritchie Dearborn, Gary Smith, Scott Alexander, John Dabrowski, and Kyle Dessouza all the way from Massachusetts.   In addition fans will see several Canadian drivers including local standout Matt Harris from the weekly Oleary Auto Group Pro Stock Division at Speedway 660, local Geary boy Matt Matheson who is a PASS North Rookie of the year entry.  Other Canadian drivers expected are but not confirmed at this time.

Race fans will get to see a full card of racing including regular points racing in the RV World Street Stock, and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman divisions as well as 200 laps of pure pro stock power.

MOSPORT: E-Bike giveaway this Saturday at Mosport Speedway

BOWMANVILLE, ON - As part of this week’s feature race, the Techtonix Open Wheel Modifieds presented by Daymak Ajax, one lucky fan will win an Eco Star bike valued at approximately $1,300.

This will be the Techtonix Modifieds second of five Mosport Speedway appearances in 2011, which includes an invitational on July 30. In their first night of action at Canada’s fastest half-mile paved oval this year, 2004 champion Darren Kearnan had a night for the ages, winning both heat contests and the feature race.

During the night’s intermission period, following the Old Dutch Crunch “King of the Hill” spectator races, members of the Daymak Ajax team along with some of their customers will participate in a two-lap race on Eco Star bikes. Once complete, there will be a draw where a lucky Speedway spectator will take home an Eco Star bike.

Disappointing end to spectacular weekend for Team PNH
Large format digital printing company drivers rise and fall at the Grand Prix ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec
June 5, TORONTO, ON – PNH Innovations had high expectations of its drivers at the Grand Prix ICAR in Mirabel Quebec on the weekend. The results in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series’ first road course event don’t do justice to the impressive performance of Andrew Ranger, Alex Tagliani, and Isabelle Tremblay.
Tagliani decimated the field in qualifying to earn the pole position by nearly a full second over the competition. Ranger arrived just before the race Sunday due to a prior racing commitment in the united States. Because Ranger didn’t qualify his PNH-sponsored Dodge Challenger he started 26th in the 27-car field, but he quickly carved through the pack to ultimately challenge for the win.
Tagliani waged a race-long battle with JR Fitzpatrick, but a flat tire on Fitzpatrick’s mount led to a late-race restart with Ranger right on the tail of the leader. The teammates made contact with just a couple of laps remaining sending Tagliani spinning out of the lead.
The drama continued when NASCAR penalized Ranger for rough driving relegating him to a 21st place finish. Tagliani fought back to finish eighth.
“It was disappointing to see our drivers fall out of contention like they did,” said Court Armstrong, Vice-President, Business Development for PNH Innovations. “They both had spectacular races going, but that can happen in this sport. We’re proud of the performance of Dave Jacombs Racing.”
Jacombs’ third entry Isabelle Tremblay suffered a driveline failure in her PNH-wrapped Ford. She failed to make it to the end and was scored in 25th.
“We’re confident that we’ll get to join Dave Jacombs Racing on the podium before the season is over,” said Armstrong. “There is plenty of reason for optimism after watching their performance this weekend.”
PNH had primary sponsorship on Ranger’s car this weekend, and they will be featured again when Ranger attempts to defend his victory in the Toronto Indy July 9th. Tagliani will be one of the favourites to win when the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series visits Montreal in August.

Mitsubishi-Announces i-MiEV Pricing

Toronto, ON. (June 7, 2011) – Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) today announced competitive pricing for their all new zero-emission electric car, the 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle), during a special presentation with partners Hydro-Quebec and the City of Boucherville.

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a five-door, 4-passenger, subcompact hatchback that has been designed and packaged to be efficient, ecological and fun to drive.  It will be the most affordable, mass-produced, all-electric vehicle in the Canadian marketplace, and with a targeted range of 135 kilometers, and a top speed of 130 km/h, i-MiEV will make an excellent commuter vehicle for many Canadians living in urban areas.

The fully equipped i-MiEV will be available in two trim levels.  The standard i-MiEV will have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of  $32,998.00 and the top of the line i-MiEV with the Premium Package will have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $35,998.00.

The provinces of Ontario and Quebec have already announced subsidies towards the purchase of electric vehicles (a credit of $8,230.00 in Ontario and $7,769.00 in Quebec). Therefore, the net MSRP of the i-MiEV in these two provinces will be $24,768.00 in Ontario and $25,229.00 in Quebec.  Furthermore, Quebec will also offer a 50 percent subsidy on the purchase and installation of a home charger, up to a maximum of $1,000.

All of these MSRP prices are exclusive of taxes, freight and PDI.

"These are prices that we believe will make the i-MiEV affordable for many environmentally conscious Canadians," said Tomoki Yanagawa, Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Corporate Planning for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada.

The announcement was made as Mitsubishi celebrated the next phase in its commitment to the company's test fleet partnership with Hydro-Quebec and the City of Boucherville.  The commitment was to bring up to 50 i-MiEV electric cars to the streets of Boucherville to undergo real-world personal testing.   To date, there are 20 vehicles in the test program, being driven on the streets throughout Quebec.

"We are gaining valuable information about batteries and charging systems," said Yanagawa, "and we have a better idea of how well the i-MiEV will integrate with the electric grid.  All of this information is so valuable as we move closer to the official launch of the i-MiEV into the Canadian market later this year."

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV represents the height of Mitsubishi Motors' green technologies, and this Quebec test program is the largest of its kind in North America.  The i-MiEV will be will be available to Canadians at Mitsubishi dealerships, later this year.

KAWARTHA SPEEDWAY: That was fun.... let's do it again.

FRASERVILLE, ON - After an extremely successful 2010 campaign, everyone was anxious for the new season to get underway.  Drivers, crew members, fans and even speedway officials were counting the days to Friday, June 3rd and the first green flag of 2011.  With Kawartha Speedway’s opening night of action in the books, the event was well worth the wait.

Nearly perfect late spring weather conditions greeted a standing room only crowd as the Fraserville, Ontario 3/8th miler kicked-off its second decade of racing.  Qualifying heats for the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models were the first order of business, as Larry Jackson and Dwight Brown shared the checkered flags.  The Better Carpet Thunder Cars were next on the agenda, with 10 lap preliminary events split between Chad Strawn and Andy Ford, while Ryan Oosterholt and Daryl Fice visited victory lane following the first round of Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock action.  Craig Graham, Willie Reyns and Fice claimed the late model, thunder car and mini stock semi features.  Earl Ireland and ‘Too’ Moroney earned starting spots in their respective main events by winning the late model and mini stock consolation rounds.

Matt Spence and Howie Crowe brought the pack of Better Carpet Thunder Cars to the line for their 20 lap ‘A’ main, but the story of the show was Queensville, Ontario’s Ken Donaldson Junior.  In a pack where the top 6 drivers were often fighting for the win, the younger brother of former division champion Kyle Donaldson survived an early race incident with Willie Reyns and Chad Strawn to earn the opening night honours.  Andy Ford, Reyns, Steve Mayhew and Crowe followed Donaldson across the line.

The NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models took the green flag nearly 20 strong, with Kyle Donaldson and Ryan Kimball on the front row.  The pace was slowed early for a 2 car incident involving Ken Downer and Tim Cole, but there was no denying Donaldson.  While the rest of the fast 5 battled for position behind him, the basic black #53 Chevrolet shot away from the pack and matched his brother’s winning effort from earlier in the night.  The division’s all-time win leader Dan McHattie was second, followed by Bryan Mercer, Dwight Brown and Kimball.

A 20 lap feature for the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks closed-out the 2011 opener.  Neil Hannah and Corey Horner paced the fastest 4 cylinder machines to the stripe, but before there was even a handful of laps in the history books, the field was shown a yellow flag for a grinding front stretch wreck involving Michael Batchelor and Brad Martin.  Batchelor left under his own power, while Martin was towed off the track, but each driver was finished for the night.  Running 3 and 4 wide throughout the pack, Daryl Fice clawed his way to the front from his 9th place starting spot and not even a red flag for Kyle McCabe’s erupted power plant in the second turn could keep the youngster from his first win of the year.  ‘Too’ Moroney, Tyler Junkin, Mike Nelson and Ryan Oosterholt rounded-out the top 5.

Kawartha klips:  Thunder car racer Bob Mercer made the tow from Orillia, Ontario to make his first ever Kawartha Speedway start...For the second time in his career, Fice swept his mini stock heat race, semi feature and main event...’Too’ Moroney, last season’s second place mini stock point finisher suffered fuel issues in the first qualifier and pulled off before the green flag.  He rebounded to win the consolation event...Glenn Watson started on the pole and despite numerous mishaps behind him, went wire-to-wire to win the 50 lap OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model feature.  Their tour returns to the Fraserville, Ontario oval for the annual running of the 75 lap Don Biederman Memorial Friday, August 5th...Kawartha Speedway now takes an early season break, returning to action Friday, June 17th with a 100 lap invitational late model feature as the headline event.  See the full schedule and updated news at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

For the second time in his career Oshawa, Ontario’s Daryl Fice earned a clean sweep of the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock action at Kawartha Speedway.  The youngster scored a heat race, semi feature and main event win Friday, June 3rd.

NCATS: Don Thomson Jr.'s Farmers Feed Families Dodge cultivatges third-place result at ICAR

MIRABEL, QC - Don Thomson Jr. in his #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge had a great weekend this past weekend at the inaugural event for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Circuit ICAR with a 3rd place podium finish.

In practice Thomson fought a loose handling race car, but put in an excellent effort to solidify an 8th place starting spot in the field 27 cars.

“This is a tight race track and our car was loose through testing and practice. I think we have it better now and the race tomorrow will be a great one for the fans.” Said Thomson after qualifying.

The 30 lap main event got underway on Sunday afternoon under sunny skies and with much anticipation as the drivers would be put through their paces on the tight 15-turn flat road course configuration.

Knowing that attrition would play a role in the finish of the race, veteran Thomson made his moves from the 8th place starting spot up through the field.  With only a few laps to go a series of cautions flags came out and positioned Thomson in a key spot to push through to a podium finish. The race finished under a green, white, checkered finish and the #8 Farmers Feed Families Dodge came home an impressive 3rd place.

“This is a great a result for the Farmers Feed Families Dodge this afternoon. This is a tricky track and the racing was great up front.  I am proud of our Team; it was also a great points day for us.”  Said Thomson while his car was in NASCAR post race technical inspection.

With this 3rd place finish, Thomson moved into 2nd place in the points standings headed into the next event June 11 in the Keystone Light 200 at Delaware Speedway near London, Ontario.

The Circuit ICAR race will air on TSN on June 12 at 11 am EST.
