Unfortunately for Kawartha Speedway race fans, that change has forced tonight's Summer Sizzler to be postponed. A rain date for the Summer Sizzler has yet to be determined.
"With heavy rains and thunderstorms heading into to area, we've regrettably been forced to delay one of the biggest events of our season," said track General Manager and Promoter Derek Lynch. "The beauty of this year's 10 race schedule allows us the opportunity to make up the event."
Action at the 3/8th mile oval at Fraserville, Ontario will continue Friday, July 16th as Earl Ireland Auto Sales presents the annual Fan Appreciation Night - complete with a 50 lap main event for the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks and an on-track autograph session.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 8, 2010) – When your season is just reaching the first week of July and it's already drawing comparisons to the historic achievements of the late Larry Phillips and Greg Biffle, you know you're doing something right. There's very little Keith Rocco hasn't done right in 2010.
In recognition of his incredible performance on the asphalt short tracks of Connecticut, Rocco is a near unanimous choice for the top spot in July's edition of the Hunter Index.
Rocco has 16 wins in 28 starts racing his Modified at Thompson International Speedway, Stafford Motor Speedway and Waterford Speedbowl. Over the past month, the 25-year-old, from Wallingford, Conn., has piled up six wins and eight top fives in 10 starts to further cement his hold on the No. 1 spot atop the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings.
The Hunter Index is a new feature in 2010 on NASCARHomeTracks.com that will spotlight the top 10 drivers in the NASCAR Developmental Series in a monthly power poll. Drivers are ranked on their performance over the previous month. The rankings are compiled by a panel of auto racing writers and NASCAR representatives.
Rocco collected five of the six first-place votes to take the top honors after being voted second in each of the two previous months.
"At Stafford Motor Speedway, considered the deepest and most talented SK Modified field of the three tracks Rocco competes at regularly, he has been virtually unstoppable this year and won all four SK Modified races over the past month," said Shawn Courchesne of the Hartford (Conn.) Courant. "At the Waterford Speedbowl, unless he breaks and gets wrecked, he wins. It's been no contest at either track for Rocco this year."
Fourteen of Rocco's 16 wins have come with a maximum 20-car field, leaving him just 22 points shy of a perfect score of 810.
The last drivers to record a similar season under the NASCAR championship format were the Phillips and current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Biffle in 1995. Phillips and Biffle achieved the maximum points under the system at the time; Phillips won the crown by virtue of more overall wins (32-27).
Even more impressive, because of the handicapping system at the tracks he races at, Rocco routinely starts back in the pack and must sprint to the front.
Adding to the difficulty, Rocco's main rival at Thompson and Stafford, Ted Christopher, checks in at No. 6 in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings and No. 4 in July's Hunter Index on the strength of three wins and six top fives in seven starts. Christopher has also been impressive on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
The other first-place vote in the Hunter Index went to Andrew Ranger.
The 23-year-old from Roxton Pond, Quebec, has found success all over the map. Literally.
Ranger, the two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 champion, took over the No. 35 Waste Management Chevrolet in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in May. He drove it to the win in the K&N Pro Series East event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma and was ninth in the East race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He also finished second in the Canadian Tire Series race at Mosport International Raceway.
And then came July 3.
Ranger won the K&N Pro Series East race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., hopped on a helicopter to Quebec, and then drove from the rear of the field to finish ninth in the Canadian Tire Series race at Autodrome St. Eustache that evening.
"It's easy to dismiss Ranger's success as road-course related," said Jason Christley of NASCAR. "Certainly his two wins can be owed to his success in that area. But his impressive runs earlier this season at Martinsville and then New Hampshire in the K&N Pro Series car, and then arriving at St. Eustache in time for driver introductions, hopping in a car he hadn't touched all day, and pulling out a top- 10 finish, speaks volumes toward Ranger's acclimation to oval racing."
Ryan Truex, who won the K&N Pro Series East race at New Hampshire and finished fifth at Lime Rock, came in third in the voting, followed by Christopher. In addition to his NASCAR Whelen All-American Series success, Christopher finished second to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Newman in the Whelen Modified Tour race at New Hampshire.
Marty Ward, who has won the last four Late Model races at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway, rounded out the top five.
Ryan Preece (NASCAR Whelen All-American Series) was sixth, followed by Brett Moffitt (NASCAR K&N Pro Series East), DJ Kennington (NASCAR Canadian Tire Series), Auggie Vidovich (NASCAR K&N Pro Series West) and Craig Von Dohren (NASCAR Whelen All-American Series).
JR Fitzpatrick, who won at Mosport and is second to Kennington in the Canadian Tire Series points, was one of three drivers to earn honorable mention.
The Hunter Index is named for Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president of corporate communications and a longtime supporter of the weekly and touring series that make up the NASCAR Developmental Series.
The Index was designed in the off season as an opportunity to compare the top drivers from the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series all the way up to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. It will also encompass drivers from the NASCAR Mexico Series, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
The NASCAR Mexico Series did not hold events since the previous Index was released.
The panel also included media members Courchesne representing the Northeast, Adam Fenwick of National Speed Sport News from the Southeast, Tim Haddock of haddockinthepaddock.blogspot.com from the West Coast, and Spencer Lewis, representing the Canadian publication Inside Track Motorsports News. BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (July 8) – Parts Canada Superbike Championship leader Jordan Szoke set a red hot pace in testing for this weekend’s fourth and fifth rounds of the series at Mosport International Raceway on Thursday.
Despite air temperatures in the low to mid-30s Celsius (around 90 Fahrenheit), the Brantford, Ont. racer took his Waznie Racing / BMC Ciclo Werks / DeWildt Honda Powerhouse Honda CBR1000RR around the 3.957km (2.459-mile) road course in one minute, 20.829 seconds for an average speed of 176.239 km/h (109.520 mph).
His closest challenger in the Superbike standings, Francis Martin of Sherbrooke, Que. was second quickest at 1:22.209 aboard the radX HD / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR and Kleinburg, Ont.’s Frank Trombino placed third with a time of 1:22.327 on the ProStar Motorsports / Sturgess Cycle Honda CBR1000RR.
“I am surprised with the time because of the heat,” admitted Szoke, who was under the lap record of 1:21.061 set by Brett McCormick last year. “Usually it takes a few days to get the times down here, but the track is in good shape. I’d like to make another step tomorrow. There’s lots left in it for sure.”
Szoke comes into the weekend with a 54-point lead over Martin in the Superbike standings, 164-110, with 50 points available for a race win. Points leader Szoke also set the quickest time in testing for the Pro Sport Bike class with a time of 1:23.664 on his Honda CBR600RR. Keene, Ont.’s Jodi Christie, Szoke’s closest challenger in the points race placed second at 1:24.119 aboard the Jodi Christie Racing / Durham Honda Powerhouse Honda CBR600RR and Trombino completed a Honda 1-2-3 with a time of 1:26.752.
Raphael Archambault of St-Colomban, Que. was quickest in testing for the Amateur Sport Bike class with a time of 1:27.215 on his Archambault Racing / Centre Hamel Honda-backed CBR600RR. Brantford, Ont.’s Rob Busby led the K&N Filters Sport Twins class with a time of 1:31.515 on his Buell XB12R and St-Lazare, Que.’s Ryan McCormick was fastest in the Honda CBR125R Challenge at 2:07.820.
The electric motorcycles of the TTXGP eGRAND PRIX Series made their Canadian debut at Mosport on Friday. Michael Hannas of Santarose, Calif. turned a lap at 1:58.599 for an average speed of 120.112 km/h (74.641 mph).
Action resumes at Mosport on Friday with qualifying for all classes, including the Pirelli SuperPole for the Inside Motorcycles Pole Position Award in the Parts Canada Superbike class. Races in all national classes will go Saturday and Sunday.

TOLEDO, OHIO - A primary focus for drivers in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards is career advancement, and Steve Arpin is the latest to achieve success with that model. Arpin will step out of the No. 55 Venturini Motorsports car for two July races, at Mansfield Motorsports Park and Pocono Raceway, in order to advance his NASCAR career in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
The 26-year-old from Fort Frances, Ont. will instead drive on those weekends at Gateway International Raceway (July 17) and Iowa Speedway (July 31). Iowa is the site of this Saturday's ARCA Racing Series event, the Prairie Meadows 200. Arpin remains entered, and plans to return to the ARCA Racing Series for the balance of the schedule after his two races away, beginning August 7 at Berlin (Mich.) Raceway.
"This is one of those situations where an opportunity fell into my lap," Arpin said. "As important as everything in the ARCA series is to us, the long-term plan is for the JR Motorsports opportunity in front of us."
Since his debut with Venturini Motorsports last August at Pocono, Arpin and team general manager Billy Venturini have shared a future-oriented plan.
"Before we even talked about business and money and what it costs to go racing, Billy and I talked about if he can help achieve my goals and get exactly where I'm trying to go," Arpin said. "I laid out in front of him exactly what I wanted to do and he presented to me all the different ways he could help me."
Venturini called the move a "great thing" for his family's developmental organization.
"That's what we're paid to do, what we're trained to do," Venturini said. "We're really happy that Steve's getting the opportunity. We just feel flattered that we've given him a platform to show his skills and that this all happened."
A past ARCA race winner himself, Venturini said Arpin's practical outlook helped the process.
"Steve was very realistic, knowing what he had to learn, A to Z, to turn into a good Nationwide driver," he said. "He knew it took a little bit of time. It was very quick, though, considering the long-term ramifications it'll have on his career."
Tony Eury Jr., a crew chief and co-owner at JR Motorsports with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt, and Rick Hendrick, remarked that Arpin's ARCA preparation will prove advantageous in his team's plan to usher the driver into stock car racing's highest level.
"We've been keeping an eye on Steve's success in the ARCA Series for some time," Eury Jr. said. "The ARCA Series is a great place to scout young drivers. Our program at JR Motorsports is built around taking new talent, developing it, and grooming them for the ultimate transition into the Cup Series. Steve really has a step up on the competition with his experience running in ARCA. All these guys that are driving in ARCA right now are gaining a ton of seat time that will help prepare them for the next step in their career."
Though Arpin, who sits eighth in the standings and is ARCA's only multiple race winner this year, will forgo his pursuit of the ARCA driver championship, the No. 55 team remains committed to winning the owner championship in 2010.
"We started out the season going for an ARCA championship, both on the driver and owner sides. We've got the program, we've got the people, and we've got the team to still go after that owner's championship and win that," Arpin said. "That would be really important to the Venturinis and it'd be a cool thing for me to be a part of, so we're really going to push hard for that."
Josh Richards, a dirt racer like Arpin, will drive the car July 17 at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Richards won the 2009 World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship and leads that series' standings again this season. Richards, 22, has made five ARCA Racing Series starts in his career and two this season, with his best result a third-place finish at DuQuoin in 2007. Last season, both of Richards' starts were for Venturini Motorsports.
The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards features 20 events at 17 tracks on its 2010 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 racetracks in 28 states since its inception. The series tests the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, annually visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as left- and right-turn street and road courses.

CONCORD, N.C. (July 7, 2010) - Legend Car drivers from near and far will converge on the Mecca of Motorsports, Charlotte Motor Speedway, July 15-17, to compete in the the Legends Million. More than 250 drivers from 35 states and two foreign countries have registered for the one-of-a-kind grassroots race featuring a total purse of $1 million. The A-Feature winner is guaranteed to take home an unprecedented $250,000, while the final spot in the feature is assured $10,000.
They come from as far west as Snohomish, Wash., as far north as Alberta, Canada, and two drivers will even be making a journey across the Atlantic Ocean from the Netherlands, trying to find glory on Charlotte Motor Speedway's frontstretch quarter-mile oval.
Some racers will travel by air, others will drive and some have even packed their bags and relocated to Charlotte, N.C., for the summer. Whatever mode of transportation they use, they all come with dreams of competing against some of the best Legend Car drivers in the world, in hopes of bringing home the top prize.
Cees Visser, Bert De Heus, George "Spike" Schultze, Grant McDonald, Chris Reid and Nick Carey are among those who will travel great distances, all journeying more than 2,000 miles to compete in the Legends Million.
The two drivers who will be making the longest trip are Dutchmen Visser and De Heus of the Netherlands. Both men currently race Legend Cars in their home country, but because of shipping costs they plan to purchase new cars upon arrival in the States and then send them back to the Netherlands after the race.
Visser, 48, of Bevershoerstraat, Netherlands, thinks driving in the Legends Million will be quite an experience and at the same time test his ability as a Legend Car racer.
"This is very challenging," explained Visser. "This will be an adventure for us as we don't have experience with oval racing, only road racing. There will be more drivers than I am used to, but maybe the money will wake up the devil in some of them. I am just going to try and get a part of it."
De Heus, of Brabersweg, Netherlands, is also excited about the opportunity to race in the United States. Despite the different style of racing, the 39-year-old believes his experience in a Legend Car will help him secure a share of the $1 million purse.
"It is the most amazing race I ever heard of," exclaimed De Heus. "As a Legend Car racer you must drive in this race! I have always wanted to drive in a big race in the United States and this is a 100 percent guarantee for spectacular racing."
Schultze, 62, of Missoula, Mont., made the four-day drive to Concord early in the summer and has been competing in the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series in preparation for the big race. The 10-week, Tuesday night series features some of the best Legend Car drivers in the country and Schultze hopes the extra track time and tough competition will aid in his pursuit of a victory in the Legends Million.
"Since I had never raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway we decided that to have any chance at the Legends Million we needed to run in the Summer Shootout," said Schultze.
Schultze, who competes in the Legend Car Masters division for drivers 40 and older, couldn't pass up an event of this caliber. "I traveled all this way because this is a once-in-a-lifetime event," explained Schultze. "I wanted the opportunity to race with the biggest names in the sport, a chance to be on national TV and maybe a chance to win some money."
Both McDonald and Reid are traveling from Alberta, Canada. While McDonald plans to fly, Reid will make the 2,168 mile trip with his car in tow.
McDonald, of Didsbury, Canada, wrecked his primary car in a race three weeks ago and is having a new Legend Car built in Huntersville, N.C., for the Legends Million. He plans to pick up his new machine upon arrival. The 51-year-old and his wife are excited about their trip to North Carolina and even have plans to someday retire in the area.
"We really want to see North Carolina," explained McDonald. "It's one place we might decide to stay in the winter months. We are treating this trip like an adventure and a week away from everyday responsibility. My goal is to have fun and enjoy being a part of the big show."
Reid, 29, of Fort McMurray, Canada, started racing a Legend Car in 2006. He travels week to week, racing in Canada, but he never imagined he would be driving to Charlotte to compete in such a large event.
"I have always wanted to go to Charlotte to see the shops and NASCAR-related attractions," said Reid. "I never imagined that I would be able to compete on such a huge stage, then this race was announced, so now I have the best of both worlds."
Carey, of Snohomish, Wash., packed up his car and trailer last week and headed east on a 54-hour trip with two of his friends in a quest for his share of the $1 million purse. The 21-year-old will stay in the Charlotte area for three weeks and plans to practice in the Summer Shootout Series prior to the big event.
Carey, who stated racing go-karts at age nine, feels like he may have an advantage over some of the other drivers that are traveling extreme distances. Unlike many of them, he has had an opportunity to race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the past.
"I raced in the Summer Shootout in 2007 and 2008," said Carey. "My crew chief for the Legends Million is the same crew chief I had in the Shootout and we finished top-five overall in 2008, so I feel that gives us an excellent chance to compete. This race is just awesome and it's a chance of a lifetime. It's just something I can't pass up."
Competitors who register for the Legends Million must register in one of three divisions: Young Lions/Semi-Pro, Masters or The Legends Million, which is open to all drivers. Each division will run heat races and an A-Main race, with the Legends Million A-Feature serving as the grand finale of the three-day event. The winners of the Masters and Semi-Pro/Young Lions division A-Main races will earn an unprecedented $30,000 and $25,000, respectively.

LONDON, ON - You never would have known Kyle Busch had a full weekend of racing ahead of him in Chicago, or that in his personal life he's newly engaged with a fiancée in the throes of planning their wedding. At 25 years of age, the Las Vegas native has perfected the art of grace under pressure. And here at Delaware Speedway, with fellow NASCAR stars David Reutimann and Jason Leffler, Kyle remained focused on the one thing he always focuses on when the smells of fuel and asphalt are in the air: winning.
The Summer Showdown presented by APC was a day-long affair including autograph sessions and practices for the drivers familiar and unfamiliar with the Delaware track. Each of the three guest drivers had a slew of fans but it was clear by the number of M and M themed caps, coats and shirts to be signed that Busch was the man whom most came to see.
When the trackside interviews were due to start, there was brief a delay while Kyle slid under his #51 from Steve Robblee to make a couple of tweaks. (Robblee's #28 was re-decaled to become 51 – Matt Robblee's 51 became 51x. A back injury kept Steve off the track.) Busch had been the fastest in practice and set a new track record when he did his time trials: 18.634. But the "Ooooh" had barely faded among the crowd when Busch's occasional competitor in NASCAR Nationwide and Truck Series races, DJ Kennington, shattered the fresh record with a new fastest lap of 18.509.
The format had the top 3 in each heat guaranteed a berth in the main 50-lap race. The rest duked it out in a last chance qualifying 25-lapper. Scott Lindsay (20) who placed fourth in time trials was kept out of all of the fun over car trouble.
Kennington and Busch each easily took their heats. Mark Watson won the third and Reutimann, in the 00 Canusa Car owned by Jamie Ramsay, owned the fourth with NASCAR Nationwide racer Leffler on his bumper the whole time. Leffler was piloting Matt Pritiko's #21 for the night.
The "B Main" race was a 25 lapper whose top 10 finishers would be allowed to run in the main race and no one wanted to be left out. Pete Vanderwyst, whose track record was beaten twice earlier in the night, had the pole. Just two laps away from the checkered flag with Vanderwyst still in the lead, John Urlin spun on turns 1 and 2 and narrowly missed meeting some metal. The race ended the night for several drivers while Vanderwyst took the win.
The 50 lap feature race got underway with a wave from five thousand fans packing the stands and the lawn, Kennington at the pole and Busch at his side.
At lap 12 Kris Martin spun in turn 3 and a bunch of cars that followed were caught up. Shawn McWhirter (31) was towed off. McWhirter had caused an earlier caution with a spin on turn one.
At lap 18 Busch was just about to claim the lead when a caution was called over a connection on turn four, somehow involving Reutimann but all eyes were on the fight for the lead. Busch hadn't been in front long enough to claim a full lap when the caution was called. The yellow flag flew at the restart of 18 caused by heavy smoke from the 81 of Andrew Gresel after some involvement with the 7 of Pete Vanderwyst. Then a couple of tangles involving Ron Sheridan and Jason Leffler, and David Reutimann with Pete Vanderwyst ended Vanderwyst's night, and sent Reutimann to pit road. Sheridan, who had started 7th, and Leffler provided some heavy talent at the back of the pack.
At lap 28, Stephen Richmond took the #11 to pit road. Meantime, Ron Sheridan was systematically working his way up through the pack.
At lap 32, just as Kyle Busch was about to have to deal with negotiating around lap traffic on a track he's not used to, Kris Martin took a twirl at turn one and Sharpie put up the yellow flag again. With 11 laps to go Andy Kamarath (83) and Mike Bentley (29) caused another caution. Simultaneously, Mark Watson (78) pulled over on turns 1 and 2 and told our announcers he heard a clunk. Whitworth Towing took him off the track.
Busch at times commanded the track and at others looked potentially vulnerable to Kennington who has already won a feature here this season and two NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races in '10, including the opener at Delaware. As the laps dwindled away, Kennington continued to close in on Busch, looking for an opportunity to reclaim the lead. But it wasn't meant to be! Busch told us on the radio that it was his race and he proved it with a win in the Summer Showdown. DJ Kennington landed second. It was a great showing for two-time Great Canadian Race winner Jesse Kennedy who came third. Dion Verhoeven was fourth and Ron Sheridan fifth.
On the podium Busch said he took advantage when Kennington got a little loose. He praised Delaware Speedway and especially the fans. Earlier he thanked Steve Robblee for giving him tips on how to run on Delaware's "finicky" track. DJ Kennington said Kyle deserved the race because "he kicked my butt" but getting the track speed record was something great to come away with.
