BUTTONWILLOW, CA (March 11, 2011) Track officials today announced a multi-year agreement naming VP Racing Fuels the Official Racing Fuel of Buttonwillow Raceway Park beginning in 2011. Under the agreement, VP will be the exclusive supplier of race fuels on site with VP110 and unleaded VP100 available at the pump, while C12, MS98 and other VP specialty fuels will be available in drums and pails.
“We’re excited about bringing VP Racing Fuels on board as our Official Fuel,” said Les Phillips, President of Buttonwillow. “We’ve carried VP products for some time and found that our racers, particularly motorcycle riders and vintage cars with a wide span of compression ratios and engine requirements, appreciate not only the quality but the wide variety of VP’s specialty products. One of the newest and most complete road racing facilities in California, Buttonwillow has 4.3 miles of track surface, with the longest configuration measuring 3.1 miles. It hosts AFM and WERA motorcycle racing and vintage auto racing events, as well as the California Sports Car Club, NASA, and most of the other regional car clubs. Buttonwillow is a popular venue for track days for both motorcycles and cars, as well as a frequent testing site for manufacturers. Ashley McCalmont and Eric Curran finished 9th in the CKS Autosport Camaro GS.R during the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series race a
Homestead-Miami Speedway, Fla. - March 9, 2011 - The CKS Autosport team of two Chevrolet Camaro RS.R race cars battled a slick racing surface at Homestead-Miami Speedway to land one of their two cars in ninth place by the time the checkered flag flew on the two hour, 30-minute race in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.
The TTL/Golden Gate Margarine Camaro was driven by Ashley McCalmont, of Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, and Eric Curran of Holyoke, Mass. Theirs was the highest finish of the race for any of the five Camaro RS.R entries from three teams.
Their teammates Dave Mundy, of Sugarland, Texas, and Tony Rivera of Angleton, Texas, finished 13th overall in their CKS Autosport-built Camaro. The two CKS-entered Camaros were among five of the limited-production Camaro GS.R cars racing at Homestead.
“The car and the race track just didn’t like each other,” said McCalmont. “It was just the way both are. The track was slick and the Camaro’s gearing – which we’re not allowed to change – wasn’t the optimum.
“It was very easy to feel the improvements in the car from the race at Daytona in late January, and that was very different from the last race of the 2010 season at Miller Park,” she said. “We’re moving up with each race finish as the whole team learns more about what the Camaro needs.
“For now,” she added, “we want our first top five finish in the Camaro, then we want a top three, then a race win. These are all possible. Every track we go to, we learn more, and that’s a good thing,” she said.
“In the meantime, after every practice session - let’s say I was driving - we take the computer data and overlay it on the data from Eric’s laps. That shows me where I’m doing well, and where I need to focus more. This capability really accelerates the learning process, especially when you’re matching your own laps to a driver with Eric’s experience.
“I’m the one who will be starting driver at each race,” McCalmont said, “so I keep honing my skills on how to be aggressive without risking the car for when I hand it off to Eric. That’s one of the challenges you never have in a race where there’s only one driver.”
“Eric and Ashley did a great job under trying circumstances,” said CKS principal Kirk Spencer. “The team worked extremely hard all weekend, trying to match the pace of the Mustangs and BMWs.
“Our goal as a team is the same one Eric and Ashley have – to get them into the winners’ circle.”
The limited-production 2011 Chevrolet Camaro GS.R is a purpose-built road racing car which starts life as a production Camaro. It is powered by a 376 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 engine producing over 400 horsepower.
The Homestead race was televised by SPEED TV and will air Saturday, March 19 at 2pm ET.

Completing the world renowned driver line up for JaguarRSR is Rocky Moran Jr., Kenny Wilden, and Oriol Servia.
Joining P.J. Jones behind the wheel of the #98 JaguarRSR XKR GT will be Moran Jr. and Wilden. This trio has similar career backgrounds and has had the opportunity to compete against each other in the past. Moran Jr. has won at every level of competition from national karting championships to the Barber Dodge Pro Series and Toyota Atlantics. The Californian has tested and/or raced Champ Car, IRL, Daytona Prototypes, NASCAR Busch, Winston West, Late Models, Indy Lights, Sports racer, F3 Martini, Palmer Audi, Infiniti Pro Series, Formula Fords, Pro Mazda, FF2000, and all karting classes.
Wilden has established himself as one of the best drivers and coaches in North America. Servia joins fellow open-wheel competitors and friends, Cristiano Da Matta and Bruno Junqueira, co-piloting the #99 car. Teaming up with Da Matta is nothing new for Servia, as they were teammates back in 2000 driving in Champ Car, and has had many years competing against each other and Junqueira. The Catalonian's racing resume highlights include finishing second in the Formula Renault championship in 1993, Indy Light champion in 1999, and finishing second in the Champ Car World Series championship in 2005.
All drivers were able to get acclimated with the XKR racer during a recent two-day test at Sebring International Raceway late-February. All were able to post lap times very close to one another and in the competitive range of times established at the Series Winter Test.

COMPASS360 RACING LAUNCHES WORLD CHALLENGE TOURING CAR PROGRAM
(Toronto, ON, Canada) -- Two brand new Honda Civic Si's recently found a new home at Compass360 Racing's shop in Toronto. Their arrival is the culmination of months of planning on the part of the C360R team and Honda Performance Development in Santa Clarita, CA.
The cars, which feature a striking white/black/silver livery, will take to the track at St. Petersburg, Florida on March 25th and will mark the debut of C360R's World Challenge Touring Car (TC) program.
Compass360 Racing has a remarkable track record, having brought home Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Championship trophies in 2010, 2009 and 2007. With support from Durabond, the team also won the Canadian Touring Championship in 2010.
Multiple championship winner Lawson Aschenbach will drive the team's #71 Honda, and front-running regional racer Tom Ehlen will pilot #72. Aschenbach is one of only a few drivers that have won championships in World Challenge and Grand-Am competition. Last year he won the Continential Tire ST title with co-driver David Thilenius in Compass360's #74 Honda, and was the World Challenge GT champion in AXA's Porsche 911 in 2006.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Ray (Lee) and Karl (Thomson) and the Compass360 team again this year," enthused Aschenbach. "We had a great run together in 2010 and we'll try to continue that in WC."
The cars were built last year by Honda Performance Development (HPD), with one being campaigned for a few races by Nick Wittmer and P.D. Cunningham. "We owe a lot to all of our partners who helped put this program together," noted Team Principal Thomson. "It wouldn't have happened without Lee Niffenegger and the folks at HPD, our technical partners Skunk2, Ultimate Racing, Stoptech, WPC, or without Gord and Ross Bentley at Speed Secrets."

COMPASS360 RACING FINISHES FIFTH AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY
(Homestead, FL) -- Compass360 Racing's #75 Honda Civic Si crossed the line fifth in a thrilling last-lap run for the flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend. After running second for much of the last half-hour of the race, the creditable finish was still a tough pill to swallow for the team, which looked sure to notch a podium result.
Ryan Everlsey took the wheel of #75 after a strong opening performance from co-driver Keith Carroll, in his first time behind the wheel of a C360R Honda. "The car was perfect, and so much fun to drive," said Carroll. "I had a great time working through traffic as the race progressed, and tried to baby the brakes so Ryan would have lots left at the end."
While Carroll moved up through the field, top C360R qualifier and 2010 Champion David Thilenius moved in the opposite direction with is #74 Honda suffering a gear selection problem in the early going. "I felt my qualifying lap was golden, and having qualified second in 2010 with this very car, it's a little disappointing to have only managed ninth. Grand-Am wanted to mix things up with the rules changes and it's clear they have!"
Thilenius had qualified ninth, with promising rookie Andrew Novich in 17th; Carroll was 24th and Carlos Tesler-Mabe was 29th.
Tesler-Mabe kept his #76 Civic clean and moved up the order, handing the car to Bob Beede, who's long been a fixture in the Grand-Am paddock. "We ran the perfect race with 75, and it's frustrating that a race-winning car from last year can now only manage a fifth-place result," noted Team Principal Karl Thomson. "Grand-Am made some changes over the off-season, and they've affected some cars more than others. We're hoping to see some competition adjustments that will bring those overdog platforms back in line with the rest of the paddock."
The Miami race marked the first event for C360R's partnership with the Children's Tumor Foundation, and it proved a great success. Ryan Everlsey took the wheel of #75 after a strong opening performance from co-driver Keith Carroll, in his first time behind the wheel of a C360R Honda. "The car was perfect, and so much fun to drive," said Carroll. "I had a great time working through traffic as the race progressed, and tried to baby the brakes so Ryan would have lots left at the end."
While Carroll moved up through the field, top C360R qualifier and 2010 Champion David Thilenius moved in the opposite direction with is #74 Honda suffering a gear selection problem in the early going. "I felt my qualifying lap was golden, and having qualified second in 2010 with this very car, it's a little disappointing to have only managed ninth. Grand-Am wanted to mix things up with the rules changes and it's clear they have!"
Thilenius had qualified ninth, with promising rookie Andrew Novich in 17th; Carroll was 24th and Carlos Tesler-Mabe was 29th.

CHILDREN'S TUMOR FOUNDATION ENJOYS SUCCESSFUL FIRST RACE WITH COMPASS360 RACING
(Homestead, FL) -- It's a magical moment when you see a child's eyes light up with excitement in a moment of wonder. It's even more special when that moment is shared with a child that is battling a serious illness. That moment is a brief respite from a world filled with doctors, tests, and the desire to just be a "normal kid."
At Homestead-Miami Speedway this past weekend, the Children's Tumor Foundation hosted a number of families with children living with neurofibromatosis (NF) as the latest of Racing4Research's fundraising efforts. It was the kick-off weekend of a full-season program with 2009 and 2010 Grand-Am champions Compass360 Racing, and by all accounts it was a tremendous success.
"We were thrilled to welcome fifteen kids and their families to the track this weekend," enthused Jill Beck, Program Director at CTF. "Some of our top local fundraisers came as well, and it was fabulous to be a part of such an exciting race weekend.
"Compass360's #75 Honda prominently featured the iconic CTF "Puzzle Piece" logo on its livery, and the other three team cars also carried CTF logos. "Our goal is to raise awareness and help with fundraising," explained C360R Team Principal Karl Thomson. "The 75 car ran up front for the entire race, and we're hoping people watching the race will be moved to donate when they see how important the research CTF supports is.
"The #75 car, driven by Keith Carroll and Ryan Eversley, was in the running for a podium spot for much of the race, and ended up a solid fifth after a thrilling race to the checkered flag. "It's an honour to be our racing in support of the Children's Tumor Foundation this year," remarked Eversley. "All kids are special, but when you see these children, dealing with the hand they've been given, and how they're just like any other kids that are so excited about being at the race track and to sit in our race car, it gives me even more motivation to give CTF their first Grand-Am podium!
"The Miami race is the second of ten this season, with the next being in Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham on April 8-9. CTF guests will be there with Compass360, and you're encouraged to donate at http://racing4research.org/.

KARTS: Kawartha Durham Kart Club Spring Meeting & Open House
The Kawartha Durham Kart Club will hold their annual spring meeting on Sunday March 27 at Kawartha Downs and Speedway, Fraserville ON. Doors open at 10:30 am.
As usual our spring meeting is to get all the members (and potential members) together to outline and discuss our 2011 racing season. Topics covered will be schedules, facilities, classes, sponsorship, new championship points system and tires. Registrations will be accepted before and after the meeting, print off forms from the website and be sure to have your medicals if required.
After the meeting there will be a free BBQ and the classroom part of our rookie training. All first year racers must attend this training as well as the first on-track session Saturday April 30th. For new or potential members this is a perfect opportunity to meet club members and ask questions. It is also recommended that all new members bring their karts and racing gear with them to the spring meeting for a safety inspection. This will give you a head start before the on-track session to get everything in tip-top shape. Scales will also be available for everyone’s use to help get your weights right before the season starts.

12:30 pm - BBQ – hot dogs, hamburgers and pop.
1:00 pm – Rookie training and kart inspections. Scales available. The spring meeting is held under the grandstand at Kawartha Speedway. Karts should be brought in the north entrance. No oil or gas drips please.

INDYCAR: Firestone to exit series after 2011 season
INDIANAPOLIS (March 4, 2011) - Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (BATO) and INDYCAR will allow the Firestone brand sponsorship and supply contract with the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights to expire at the end of the 2011 season.
