Weather Cancels Canadian Tire Series Qualifying ... Points Leader Steckly To Start On Pole

BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Canada – Qualifying for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series for the Vortex Brake Pads 200 at Mosport International Raceway on Saturday was cancelled due to inclement weather.

A persistent drizzle was in the area for much of the day and the forecast showed no improvement for the remainder of the day forcing the cancellation.

Cars will be lined up per the series rule book for Sunday’s race. Points leader Scott Steckly will start from the pole alongside Don Thomson Jr. JR Fitzpatrick will start from the third position with DJ Kennington and Jeff Lapcevich in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The remainder of the top 10 will be made up of Jason Hathaway, Steve Mathews, Ron Beauchamp Jr., Mark Dilley and Jason White.

Earlier in the day in practice, Steckly posted the fastest time followed by Lapcevich, Robin Buck, Kerry Micks and Kennington.

The Vortex Brake Pads 200 is set to take the green flag at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

ACT at Oxford Plains Speedway Postponed

Oxford, ME - The American Canadian Tour event scheduled for Saturday,
June 25 at Oxford Plains Speedway (OPS) in Oxford, Maine has been
postponed due to rain. The event has been rescheduled for Saturday,
August 20.
Many of the ACT stars will return to OPS for the TD Bank 250 on Sunday,
July 24 to take their shot at a $25,000 payday.
The next event on the ACT Late Model Tour schedule is now the 100 lap
event at Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH on Saturday, July 9.

As the track rubbered in and we put on new tires, the car didn't work anymore.  We have to figure out why.  But at least at the end of the race you're on old tires and that's where you need to be aggressive.

"You have to start at the front, so you're out of trouble on the start.  That's the main thing.  We've been running in the top three all day.  Hopefully, we can carry that on tomorrow.

"The engine is working well.  The whole car is working well.  We were quick out of the box.  I've been racing before when the power wasn't there; that really makes your day difficult.   Now, we seem to be doing well down the straight line, that helps."

TODD GORDON (Crew Chief, No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger R/T)  "I think we made pretty good gains in the first practice.  We got off on our adjustment about the third run of the second practice and really started chasing it, but we found it.  We really felt we had pretty good speed there the second to last run on old tires.  We got a lot of speed.  We just have to go back to that baseline.  I feel like we've got something pretty competitive and Jacques (Villeneuve) is doing a great job with the Discount Tire Dodge.

"Jacques is a talent to work with and a joy to work with.  The car has good speed in it.  I feel like our balance is pretty good.  I look for us to be up front."

ANDREW RANGER (No. 53 Waste Management Dodge Challenger R/T) "We missed the first session of practice, but got the car ready for the second session and was P6 (sixth fastest).  I'm really happy about that.  We had a little problem with the brakes, a little problem with the fuel pump.  It's a brand new car.  I was a little bit nervous today about this, but it's normal.  For tomorrow, I'm really excited.  The car has a lot of power, a lot of horsepower.  I'm really surprised about it.  At the end of the straightaway, I was able to catch people."

Delaware Speedway: Rainout notice

LONDON, ON - Tonight’s racing for June 24, 2011 (Emergency Services Night Presented by Whelen Engineering) has been cancelled due to the weather.

- Emergency Services Night is now rescheduled for Friday, July 8.  On that night Emergency Service Personnel and their immediate family will enter the facility free of charge as a thank-you for all they do in our communities.  The card will be a full and exciting one as the truck autograph session and 35-lap race will also occur that evening along with the Powerade Open-Wheel Modified invitational and Krown Junior Racing League All-Star Race.

- The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Car media race originally scheduled for tonight has been cancelled and will likely not be rescheduled for later in the season.

- Tickets which were purchased for tonight’s event can be exchanged for general admission passes for another regularly priced event later in the season.  This exchange can take place at the gate the day of that regularly priced event, or through the speedway office.

- The Strathroy Chamber of Commerce event originally scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled to next week July first, the Canada Day Maple City Tire 100.  Members may contact the Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Ohsweken Speedway: Round #2 at South Buxton Raceway Goes Tomorrow, June 25th

One of the highlights of the 2011 southern Ontario dirt track racing scene got off to a soggy start as the Friday opener at Ohsweken Speedway presented by Jones Brown Insurance for winged 360 Sprint Cars has succumbed to weather.  The Northern Summer Nationals will switch to the Chatham, Ontario area tomorrow where South Buxton Raceway plays host to what will now be the first of three races in the series. 

Along with the regulars who compete weekly at Ohsweken, affiliation has been obtained from three regional organizations including the Ontario based Southern Ontario Sprints, the Michigan based ASCS Sanctioned Sprints on Dirt, and the popular New York based Patriot Sprint Tour. Along with a set of rules that will allow most 360 legal sprint cars to compete, the field of cars expected should offer plenty of fast, exciting racing.

The overall winner of the series will be rewarded with a guaranteed starting position in the 7th Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals on September 17th at Ohsweken along with a portion of the $5,000 series point fund. Plenty of free camping is located at each facility and everyone is invited to come out early and relax as summer gets underway.

Pit gates will be open at 4:00PM with spectator gates set to open at 5:00 PM. All seating will be general admission. No one under 14 is permitted to enter the Pit Area.

Reserved seat ticketing sales continues daily as plenty of good seats remain for all three major events during the summer at Ohsweken Speedway.

Adults will be admitted to this event for $20 while Students 13 through 17 and seniors over 65 and older are $15. Kids 12 and under will be admitted for $5. All seats will be reserved.

Tickets for the 4th Annual “SIX NATIONS SHOWDOWN” featuring the World of Outlaws on July 27th and the 7th Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals September 16th and 17th also remain on sale.

Stars and Cars under the Lights at Scotia Speedworld this Friday Night!

(Halifax, NS – June 23, 2011) There will be celebrities in the house this week at Scotia Speedworld! In addition to Weekly Racing Series action, some of your favorite media personalities will also be going head to head on the track in the second annual Media Race. That’s right, Metro’s media moguls will be let loose on the track for 12 laps in 4-cylinder Thunder and Lightning cars! Don’t miss JC Douglas, Denyse Sibley, Caroline Parker, Ron Kronstein and more as they pilot the cars for bragging rights, the coveted Media Race trophy and most importantly a cheque for his or her local charity of choice! The battle for media supremacy will happen this Friday night under the lights at Scotia Speedworld.

BGR Team Grote ready to go for the Cup

The 2011 edition of the Can Am Cup takes place this coming weekend at Mosport, and with the team coming off a  big win at the Formula Tour 1600 Montreal race, hopes are high for success.  

"We are really looking forward to this event, Shane Jantzi has a lock on this race for the past 5 years and we are getting tired of it!" Commented team principal Brian Graham. "Shane has really figured out how to be out front when it counts and we hope that it is a BGR Team Grote driver who finally snaps his win streak." 

 Ready to take the battle to Shane are 15 year old Trent Hindman and returning alumni Mikhail Goikhberg. Kieran Murphy will fight for B Class honours.  Mikhail is making his 3rd CAC start and is a former pole sitter for the annual event. This will be Trent's first trip to Mosport and just second event in FF.  

BGR Team Grote has put more drivers in the winners circle than any other team  in  OFFC history. With alumni drivers now competing in some of the worlds most elite series including ALMS (Kyle Marcelli), GP3 and Indy Lights (Conor Daly and Josef Newgarden) as well as others who continue their trek to top.  Striving to provide karter’s as well as seasoned racers a strong platform to develop their skills as they push towards their goals, BGR Team Grote continues to look for up and coming drivers looking to make the jump from karting to open wheel racing.

Kawartha Speedway: The Legends Are Coming

FRASERVILLE, ON - Four times every season, the Ontario Legends Series invades Kawartha Speedway’s 3/8th mile oval.  Numbering more than 20 strong each time they visit, the scaled-down speedsters are a popular addition to the track’s regular race nights.  The first trip on this year’s schedule is Friday, June 24th as the tour joins the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, Better Carpet Thunder Cars and NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models for 20-11’s 3rd night of action.  Beamsville, Ontario’s Adam Cuthbertson – who earned the 2009 and 2010 series championship – says Kawartha is one of his favourite places to race; even though he’s yet to win a main event at the Fraserville, Ontario facility.

“We’re always fast at K-D, no doubt about it,” said Cuthbertson with a laugh.  “I just wish we could be around at the end of the main event for the victory lane interviews.  The car has been great in practice and we’ve won a couple of heat races over the years, but something always seems to take us out of the big dance.  Last year, we hit the wall in 2 of the shows we ran.  I hope this year we’ll finally be able to shake the bad luck.”

The 23 year-old Cuthbertson – who got a first taste of the sport at the age of 17 – says he loves having his entire family involved in his racing endeavours.  His father Andrew is his crew chief, while his mother Dee and fiancée Sarah help keep the entire team on the track. Wesley Cuthbertson will run the car his older brother used last year at selected events on this year’s tour, while Adam campaigns a new machine he picked-up during the off-season in North Carolina on a limited basis, while looking forward to his upcoming wedding on July 16th.

Lucas Oil ESS: Northern Summer Nationals this weekend

SYRACUSE, NY – This weekend will find a break in the full point action from the busy Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 2011 tour schedule.  The newly revamped Northern Summer Nationals kicks off this weekend at the Ohsweken Speedway and the South Buxton Raceway and fans will see some of the ESS stars in action.

While points are not being paid, money is being offered and in a big way.  On Friday the winner at Ohsweken will collect a cool $3,000 from the posted $16,850 purse.  Then on Saturday at South Buxton, the winner will get $2,000 from the posted $12,750 purse. 

The Northern Summer Nationals has seen changes over the years with this year now offering four events with two at each venue.  While scheduling conflicts will only see ESS be a part of the first two events, the sprinkling of the ESS stars in what will be a star filled field is an added bonus.

Some of the drivers that have interest this weekend is defending ESS champion Steve Poirier who has success at Ohsweken winning two Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.  Other drivers looking to make the trip are Tyler Rand, Chris Jones, Jim Porter, Daniel Lampron and possibility of a few more.

Mosport to rev up excitement for NASCAR Vortex 200 race with pit party at Kelsey's

BOWMANVILLE, ON – June 22, 2011 - The Vortex Brake Pads 200, featuring the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, rolls onto Mosport's famous road course this weekend, but you can get revved up early for the race on Friday, June 24 with the Mosport Pit Party at Kelsey's Bowmanville (90 Clarington Blvd.) from 7 pm until 9 pm.

The Party will feature NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drivers such as Kerry Micks, Robin Buck, Jason White and Durham Regions own Joey McColm and David Thorndyke, who will be available for autographs and pictures.  Micks (Dickies/Beyond Digital Ford), Thorndyke (Thorsons EVT/Promotive Racing Chevrolet) and Buck (Quaker State Dodge) will also have their NASCAR Series cars on display and fans are invited to bring along their cameras.

McColm making NASCAR season debut at Mosport road course this weekend; Ajax driver anxious to return to competition

June 22, AJAX, ON – Joey McColm returns to the race track this weekend when the popular Ajax racer competes in the Vortex Brake Pads 200 at Mosport International Raceway near Bowmanville, Ontario.
After competing in the entire NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in 2010 McColm sat out the first three events this season to regroup and develop new partnerships.
“I’ve been anxiously awaiting this weekend,” said McColm. “We have Race Time Radio on board as our primary sponsor, and we plan to stay busy the rest of the season.”
McColm’s limited schedule includes road course events this weekend at Mosport along with the Toronto and Montreal events later in the season. He will also compete on the oval tracks at Barrie Speedway and Kawartha Speedway later this summer.
“We aren’t limited to just those races,” said McColm. “But that’s the schedule we know we can commit to. I’m actively seeking sponsorship to help us run more events.”
The Civil Engineering graduate from Ryerson University recently announced a partnership with Earth Day Canada. The environmentally conscious racer has lofty but attainable goals.
“We’re committed to becoming NASCAR Canada’s first and only sustainable organization,” said McColm. “We are workingon programs that will help fans, competitors, and facilities become more educated about sustainability.”
A more relaxed schedule has allowed McColm to undertake school presentations focused on the importance of environmental responsibility, and he recently participated in the Green Living show.
“I plan to return to a full racing schedule as soon as possible, but in the meantime I’ve been proud to be involved with Earth Day Canada.”

CALGARY’S JARRAD WHISSELL SET FOR SEASON OPENER

June 22, 2011. Calgary, Alberta’s Jarrad Whissell and the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford team will begin their 2011 racing season in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this weekend at Mosport international Raceway near Bowmanville, Ontario. This year Whissell adds two oval track events to his schedule and once again this season will be making a significant charitable contribution with his prize winnings, the recipient will be the Children’s Miracle Network.

This season Whissell has formed a new association with Jeff Lapcevich and Fastline Motorsports who will prepare the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford for the road course events. “Jeff is a premiere road racer and we’re fortunate to have Don Barnhardt from his group working as Crew Chief” said Whissell. “They’ve had the car for a few months and have been updating it to get ready for the season and I’m excited to get on track this weekend” he added.

The return to Mosport this weekend for the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford driver is a place where Whissell feels he is due for a change in his racing luck. “We’ve always seemed to have some trouble for some reason” explained the driver. “In 2008, my series debut we crashed out. The next year we ran well but had pit stop troubles, and then last year it was a crash a burn with the brake ducts catching fire. With the changes we made in the off season I think we’ve put all that behind us and our goal is a top-ten finish this weekend” he stated.

Over the winter the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford team took delivery of their first oval track car and Whissell is excited to be competing at both NASCAR Canadian Tire series races in Western Canada. “I don’t have a lot of oval track experience” said Whissell. “But we’ve had Bill Burns preparing the car for us to race in Vernon and Saskatoon and I’m really excited about the challenge” he added.

Once again this season Whissell has chosen a charity to support through his racing efforts in the #44 SMS Equipment/Komatsu Ford. This season it will be the Children’s Miracle Network. “One of our sponsorship partners, SMS has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network as their corporate charity and I’m pleased to join them in supporting this great cause” he stated.

After totally dominating the Masters class at Tremblant in May 2011, taking first place in both races, Jonathan Labbee was moved up to the Pro Class by the Series Officials.

At the Montreal Grand Prix event, Labbee proved that he could run with the pros. Qualifying in 14 place and fighting his way up to 9th position, Labbee spun in corner one while attempting to pass the car in 8th place. This pushed Labbee to 32nd place where he managed to regain, ground to finish in 17 place.

The Sunday Race was not kind to Labbee, heavy rain made the track very slippery, cars were out everywhere. Unfortunately Labbee put 2 wheels in the grass and lost a battle with the guardrail, prematurely ending the race for car 47.

"The weekend had more positives than negatives for me, I now know that i can run with in the top 10, i want to go faster" Labbee says. " i have an incredibly well prepared car by S.Cadney, a fantastic driving coach who keeps pushing  me, my mind is sharp and i have the fire in my belly!"

Wayside, N.J., June 22 – Two weeks after a winning debut at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Trent Hindman returns to Canada with BGR Team Grote for his season debut in 2011 Ontario Formula Ford Championship, racing at Mosport International Raceway as part of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Vortex Brake Pads 200 weekend. After completing his high school final exams for the year, Hindman is ready to get back behind the wheel.

"My experience at the Canadian Grand Prix couldn't have gone better", noted Hindman. "BGR Team Grote treated us like rock stars, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was an amazing track to drive and the field I raced against was very strong. I couldn't have been happier and I can't wait to race this weekend at Mosport."

Mosport International Raceway

A few miles north of Lake Ontario in the town of Bowmanville lies a jewel of North American racing; Mosport. Opened in 1961, the track has hosted everything from Formula 1 and Can Am to the American Le Mans Series and NASCAR. This weekend will be Hindman's first visit to the storied facility, but that doesn't mean it will be the first time he's seen the track.

"In person I've only seen Mosport through a fence while I was testing with BGR Team Grote at the Mosport Driver Development Centre, but I have been familiarizing myself with the track on iRacing. My first impression is that the track is extremely fast, with Moss Corner being the biggest braking zone and the most important corner on the track, as it leads onto the Mario Andretti straight. I also think that Clayton Corner (Turn 2) could be the greatest corner I've ever driven through. I'll find out this weekend."

Who is Trent Hindman?

Trent Hindman, 15, began racing karts at his local track at the age of 8. In 2005 he began racing and winning in World Karting Association (WKA) and Stars of Karting competition before moving up to cars with the Skip Barber Racing School in early 2009. Hindman's goal is to progress through the "Mazda Road to Indy" program, culminating in a ride in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Hindman would like to thank MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development, Skip Barber Racing School, Sparco, Premier Woodcraft, Racelite Protection and Altemus Prime Communications for their support. This season Trent is working with Jonatan Jorge Racing Development and is looking forward to being coached by Jonatan Jorge.

OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY: Northern Summer Nationals opens Friday

By Tommy Goudge (June 21, 2011) – The first special event of the Ohsweken Speedway season hits the track this Friday when Jones Brown Insurance presents the first of four races in the Northern Summer Nationals Sprint Car series. The Lighthouse Tattoos Thunder Stocks, HRW Automotive Mini Stocks, and Pierced Parts Bombers will also be in action this Friday night, June 24 for round 4 of Friday Night Thunder.

NORTHERN SUMMER NATIONALS

The first two rounds of the Northern Summer Nationals series will take place this weekend, with Friday racing at Ohsweken Speedway, and Saturday at South Buxton Raceway. Four affiliated sanctioning bodies have officially signed up for the series, including Ohsweken’s Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division, along with the Southern Ontario Sprints club, ASCS Sprints on Dirt series, and Patriot Sprint Tour.

Several drivers from the Empire Super Sprints have also expressed interest in attending, and the $3,000 winner’s prize on Friday night is sure to attract a surprise entrant or two as well.

The Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car regulars will defend home turf on Friday night, with “The Tilbury Tornado” Kyle Patrick leading the way.

Patrick is the only driver who has finished in the top 10 in all 3 Corr/Pak events held in 2011. Jim Huppunen of Fenwick is just one point behind Patrick however, and had an impressive runner-up finish last Friday. Defending Corr/Pak champ Dave Dykstra of Port Colborne is third in the standings, followed by Burford driver Jamie Collard, and a 5th place tie between Grimsby’s Travis Cunningham, and opening night winner Kyle Moffit of South Dayton, NY.

Patriot Sprint Tour drivers have been hard to ignore at Ohsweken over the past couple of weeks. Salamanca, NY driver Jared Zimbardi leads the PST points standings through 6 events, and won the Corr/Pak feature at Ohsweken on June 10. Bryan Howland of Auburn, NY is second in the PST standings, and won last Friday’s Corr/Pak feature at Ohsweken, along with Saturday’s PST event at Merrittville Speedway. Howland won the 2008 Northern Summer Nationals, and was on his way to winning the ’09 event when his front wing came loose with 3 laps to go. Tim Kelly of Rockstream, NY, “Williamsville (NY) Warrior” Don Adamczyk, Vern Wasson of Jersey Shore, PA, and Alden, NY’s Scott Kreutter are some of the other PST drivers expected to visit Southern Ontario this weekend.

Dustin Daggett’s name is the first mentioned whenever the ASCS Sprints on Dirt series is involved with an Ohsweken event. The Grand Ledge, Michigan resident has already won 3 times on the ASCS SOD tour this season, and sits tied for second all-time on the Ohsweken Speedway feature win list with 9, after 3 wins at Ohsweken last year. Daggett has also won a Northern Summer Nationals event twice before. 2010 ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion Ryan Grubaugh of St. Johns, Michigan is also expected in action this weekend, and should be a threat to win too.

Grubaugh has run once already this year at Ohsweken, claiming a runner-up finish on opening night for the Corr/Pak division.

The Southern Ontario Sprints club has competed once so far this season, while another event was rained out. “The Joyceville Jet” Rick Wilson got the SOS feature win at Brighton Speedway in May and leads the standings, but is unlikely to make the trip to compete this weekend. That leaves Demorestville driver Chris Jones, “Batman” Adam West from Ridgetown, Sutton driver Bob Crawford, Alexandria’s Lee Ladouceur, and others to fight for the SOS points lead this weekend. Dick Mahoney of Newmarket, Stouffville driver Brad Lodge, Mount Hope’s Frank Baranowski, and Pickering’s Jim Munsie are also expected to compete at Ohsweken on Friday, while Warren Mahoney of Lefroy is likely to join the tour on Saturday at South Buxton.

LIGHTHOUSE TATTOOS THUNDER STOCKS: Twin 15’s for the Thunder Stocks highlighted last week’s card at Ohsweken, with Devin Habiuk of Port Robinson, and Cambridge driver Wyatt Van Wart picking up feature wins, and an extra $50 each from Engine Pro Racing. Habiuk leads the championship chase by 5 markers over Caledonia driver Mike Thorne, while opening night feature winner Larry Czinege, Jr. of Ridgeway, Brantford’s Brad Herron, and first-time winner Van Wart round out the top 5. Cory Turner of Caistor Centre is 6th overall, and leads the way in the Rookie of the Year quest. Lee Winger also has a feature win in the Thunder Stock division this year, and sits 10th in the standings.

HRW AUTOMOTIVE MINI STOCKS: Caledonia’s Mike Evers visited the Engine Pro Racing Winner’s Circle last Friday for the first time since May 30, 2008, breaking Karl Sault’s win streak in the process. Sault, of Dundas, won the first two features of his Mini Stock career, and continues to hold the points lead after a 4th place finish on Friday. Brantford’s Jake Brown is second in the standings, followed by Evers, Smithville driver Mike Sarantakos, and Burlington’s Mike Taylor. Cayuga driver Abel Castelein returned to the track after a flip the week before, and drove a borrowed ride to 2nd place at the end of the feature. The two-time champ is 6th in the standings. Sault leads the Rookie of the Year standings, with 7th overall Jeremy Hughes the next closest challenger for the rookie title.

PIERCED PARTS BOMBERS: Trevor Roszell got his second straight feature win in Bomber action last Friday. The Waterdown resident leads the championship chase, with Rockton’s Dave Patton 8 points behind. Team #38 with drivers Rodney and Randy Rutherford is third in the standings, followed by Craig Dowd, and Sarah Rutherford.

MPST: Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour heads to PEI's Oyster Bed Speedway

HALIFAX, NS - The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour rolls onto scenic Prince Edward Island this weekend for the fourth event of the season. Oyster Bed Speedway, located just outside of Charlottetown, will host the Parts for Trucks 100 on Saturday, June 25th.  The event will mark the 20th race for the touring series at Oyster Bed Speedway. The Tour has made two stops at the 1/3 mile oval each season since 2001, with the exception of 2009 which saw only one event. Racing action for the Parts for Trucks 100 gets underway at 6:00 pm, with Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials set to begin at 5:10 pm. 

Last season hometown favourite Jonathan Hicken of Brudenell took home his first Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour victory at this event, the first of three wins for the #5 Chapman Brother Construction / Castle Building Centers Chevy last season. Out of the last six spring races run at Oyster Bed Speedway, five of the winners have been Island boys, with Greg Proude of Springvale winning two events. Brad Mann (Glen Levit, NB) and Kent Livingston (Charlottetown, PE) who are expected to be in the field on Saturday, have picked up their only career victories during a Spring race at the 1/3 mile oval.

Last week's Ron MacGillivray Chev Buick GMC 100 at Riverside International shook up the top five in the championship point standings. Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS, now sits in top spot thirteen points ahead of Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS. Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB, slips to third after leading the point standings through the first two events of the season. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE, climbs to fourth from fifth and 2009 champion Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS, enters the top five for the first time this season.

Opening the Parts for Trucks 100 are Modifieds who will run a 30 lap feature and 4-cylinder Hondas will kick off the evenings racing schedule with a 20 lap feature.

CCTCC: Is this a tie-breaking weekend at Mosport International Raceway?

Toronto, June 21st 2011 – The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Continental Tire is proud to confirm that new competitors are joining the field for the Vortex Brake Pads 200 at Mosport International Raceway on June 25-26. The weekend will feature Rounds Five and Six of the Fifteen Round 2011 season.

Going into this weekend, Super Class is led by Richard Boake in his Subaru Sti, tied with Dean Fantin in his BMW followed closely by Etienne Borgeat in his Pontiac Solstice. Only ten points are separating them. Fantin was awarded with bonus points which tied him for the lead. Brothers Tom and Gary Kwok are also tied for the lead in Touring Class with their Honda Civics followed by Michel Sallenbach in his Mini Cooper S. They are separated by only one point!

"What a fantastic start to the season," exclaimed John Bondar, President of CTCC. "The competition has been intense during the first four rounds and everyone is fighting for every point."

New competitors:

Mechanical difficulties took him out just before Round One but Jeff Pabst from the Pfaff Automotive Partners Team will race for the first time with CTCC in 2011. The Woodbridge driver will race in his number 69 Audi A5 in Super Class. In the same Class, Trois-Rivières, Québec driver Alain Fournier will be experiencing his first CTCC action during the Vortex Brake Pads 200. He will be racing in the number 44 BMW 330CI.

As for Touring Class, Martin Langeveldt from Oshawa will compete in a Mazda Protégé under number 17. Also, Kam-Fung Man is visiting from Hong Kong and will race M&S Racing's fourth Honda Civic. CTCC wishes all the best to those new drivers!

The first four Rounds of the season have been a close battle with 15 different competitors making it to the podium. The competition has been intense as they tried different setups in an effort to learn about the new Continental Extreme Contact race tires. This weekend marks a return to Mosport and a chance to refine the setups used just five weeks ago.

Weekend schedule: Competitors take to the track beginning Saturday morning with practice and qualifying, followed by Round Five of the championship in the afternoon. The cars will warm-up Sunday morning in preparation for Round Six of the championship on Sunday afternoon. Tickets to attend the event are available at www.mosport.com.

Fans can keep track of live CTCC competition with their smartphone or computer by connecting to www.livetiming.net/ctcc. CTCC live timing is available whenever and wherever the race cars are on the track.

CTCC Webisode Two: A new Webisode is now available on the CTCC Website and YouTube Channel. The Webisode features Jocelyn Fecteau. This Quebec driver has a leg injury and couldn't race the first two races of the season. Find out how the injury affects him and his first race!
