CASCAR: Carpentier WILL NOT race at St-Eustache this weekend
Montréal, QC, September 7, 2006 - Due to uncontrollable circumstances, Patrick Carpentier will not take part in round 10 of the CASCAR Super Series that will be held this weekend at Autodrome Saint-Eustache, located northwest of Montreal.
The event, originally scheduled last June, was rained out and postponed until this weekend. This gave the former open-wheel star an opportunity to race in front of a home crowd.
"Unfortunately, nothing seemed to work for us this week," said Carpentier, who finished sixth last weekend at Cayuga Speedway (Ontario) after starting 19th in his first-ever stock car race.
"I am disappointed for everyone who worked real hard on this project, and I want to sincerely thank Claude Aubin, from Saint-Eustache, Richard Coughlin of CASCAR and team owner Dave Jacombs for their efforts. I'm also disappointed for the fans. We worked relentlessly to fix every problem that arose, but at the end, we finally concluded that it would simply not work out. I really enjoyed my outing in this series, and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the camaraderie at Jacombs Racing and in the series in general. If another opportunity presents itself, I would like to get another chance to race in Saint-Eustache."
Carpentier, currently associated with Mecachrome International, placed on hold an invitation to race with a top notch Indy Racing League (IRL) team this weekend in Chicago in order to pursue his dream of racing stock cars."
Lately, I have been telling everyone that my future in racing lies in stock car," continued Carpentier, who will fly to Las Vegas this Saturday in order to enlist his daughter in primary school.
"I would have probably accepted the IRL team invitation, but I also had the opportunity to race again with Jacombs Racing. Between the two, I opted for the stock car event, but in the end, it simply did not work out. We tried every which way. I even delayed for a couple of days the enlistment of my daughter in school in order to try and race at Saint-Eustache."
Carpentier will join CITGO/SAMAX Racing team on September 19 for a two-day test at Daytona, Florida. This test is a prelude to next January's Daytona 24-Hour race. Carpentier drove the CITGO/SAMAX Pontiac-powered Riley with Milka Duno of Caracas, Venezuela in the August 26 R0LEX Sports Car Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
The pair, who ran as high as third, finished in seventh place. It was the Canadian driver second outing in this series. Last January, he co-drove with Christian Fittipaldi and team owner Eddie Cheever Jr. in the 24-Hour of Daytona. The team was running in fourth place with two hours to go, when they retired with a mechanical problem.

Molson pulls out of Toronto Champ Car event
"The Molson Grand Prix of Toronto is no more. The race will live on, but under a new name with Molson opting not to renew its title sponsorship of the Champ Car race in 2007, though it remains the beer sponsor for the event.
“For the first time in 21 years it won’t be the Molson Grand Prix of Toronto, it will be the ‘XYZ’ Grand Prix of Toronto,” confirmed Charlie Johnstone, president and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Toronto, which manages the event.
From its inception in 1986 through to 2005 the race was owned by Molson Sports and Entertainment and called the Molson Indy. Molson sold the race to the Champ Car in 2005 but stayed on as title sponsor for the renamed Molson Grand Prix of Toronto in 2006.
Johnstone said the association has been considering the possibility Molson may pull out for months, but just received official word last week.
And while he would not provide a specific reason for the decision, he said it was a strategic move on Molson’s part that had nothing to do with the health of the event. Last November Molson Canada also dropped its title sponsorship of the Champ Car race in Montreal..."
Villeneuve quit because he didn't want to compete for a ride

From TSN.CA.....
"After having been in F1 for 10 years and having won the championship and so on, I wasn't ready to stay home some weekends just to see how the other guy would go and to then be compared to him [Robert Kubica]..."
As for Villeneuve's desire to re-start his career as a NASCAR racer, he said, "If I was going to drive again, it would have to be NASCAR, that's all... Basically it's something you have to learn from scratch, and I think that's what would make it interesting and exciting. When you start at the bottom of the ladder and have to learn, you really have to outdo yourself, it makes it exciting."

Engine woes keep Micks from winner’s circle at Cayuga

Courtesy Bruce F. Mehlenbacher
NELLES CORNERS, ON (September 3, 2006) – Engine woes kept Kerry Micks out of the winner’s circle during the running of the Hot Henry 200 CASCAR Super Series race at Cayuga International Speedway last Sunday, but the veteran stock car driver is still second in the point race for 2006.
“It started out a great weekend,” said a disappointed Micks after the 200-lap race. “We were hoping to take the Berkshire Group/Canadian Detailing Services Ford Taurus to a podium finish, but it just didn’t happen.”
The Mt. Albert driver and team owner of Micks Motorsports qualified well for the race on the big Cayuga oval, starting in fourth. He was running in second spot, got tangled up with a lapped car, and lost track position. Then on lap 171 the engine in his Taurus died, and the team’s race was over. He finished 18th in the 27-car field.
“We’re pretty disappointed, no two ways about it,” Micks added. “But we’re running on a low budget this year, and the engine broke big-time.”
The Micks Motorsports Team remains second in the point’s standings, just ahead of Cayuga winner Dave Whitlock of Wyoming, ON.
Dave Whitlock won Sunday night’s ‘Hot Head Henry 200 Powered by Griddly Headz’ CASCAR Super Series race at Cayuga International Speedway followed by Ron Beauchamp Jr. in second and Mark Dilley in third.
The next event for Micks Motorsports will be round eleven of the 12-event CASCAR Super Series at Autodrome St-Eustache featuring the CASCAR 200, September 9 in St-Eustache, Quebec just outside of Montreal.

PREVIEW: Parts For Trucks 200 At Scotia Speedworld
This is race 10 in the 11 event CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour, which sees action at five Maritime Tracks during May to September. John Flemming, Halifax, NS the current points leader, holds a 21-point lead over second year Tour driver Brad Mann, Glen Livet, NB. Wayne Smith, Timberlea, NS, the Oval Outlaw is 63-points back. Gordie Ryan, Wellington, NS and Shawn Tucker, Fredericton, NB round out the top five in points.
The Parts For Trucks 200 is an extended lap race and as such will see a mandatory caution at the completion of lap 100. Teams will be given 12 minutes to stop and make whatever changes they feel their car needs. If they complete these changes in the 12 minutes, they will start lap 101 in the same position as they finished lap 100. If they take longer than the allotted 12 minutes, they will start at the rear of the field. This introduces a new element to the teams and causes them to formulate a new strategy for this event.
The EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year race, Russell Smith, Lakeside, NS holds a 66-point lead over Bobby Neilsen, Vernon River, PE. All five of the full time rookies sit in 17th to 23rd place in the point standings. A slip by any could quickly change the order in the standings.
The Parts For Trucks 200 is also the last round of the four race Plasti-Kote Challenge, a series within the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour. The top point getter in the four Parts For Trucks races will win the Plasti-Kote Challenge and its cash award. Ryan takes a 5-point lead over Flemming into Saturday’s event. Smith, Tucker and Mann round out the top five in Plasti-Kote Challenge point standings.
The grandstands open at 3 PM for the Parts For Trucks 200. Time Trials to set the field start at 5:10 PM, with racing slated for 6 PM.
Grandstand admission is just $25 for adults, $5 for youth (8-15), while those under seven are admitted free. Access to the pits is $30 and restricted to those 16 and older. HST is included in all admission prices.
Advance grandstand tickets are now available for the Parts For Trucks 200 at Ticket Atlantic; Parts For Trucks, Burnside; Amber Contracting, Burnside; CARQUEST Auto Parts, Halifax & Burnside; Forbes Chev Olds, Dartmouth; Rocky Lake Quarry, Bedford and RV Contacts, Mount Uniacke.

CASCAR: Perseverance pays off for Brown at Cayuga

NAPA Autopro Driver Squeezes Into Another Top Ten Finish
Doug Brown fought his way back from a disappointing qualifying position to finish tenth a Cayuga International Speedway on Sunday to preserve his position in the tightening points standings.
The NAPA Autopro driver had fallen victim to a broken axle during the second of two 50-lap qualifiers and was forced to start near the rear of the 27-car field in the “Hot Head Henry 200”.
“I knew I had to make some early gains to get into contention and stay on pace with the leaders”, the veteran competitor commented when discussing his race strategy. “It’s not the spot in the line-up where you want to be with the point standings so tight at this point in the season”.
At the drop of the green flag, Doug quickly jumped to 23rd place but some early caution flags caused by spinning back markers kept the field tightly bunched before a long green flag run spread the field.
The team later spurned a pit stop that some of the leaders took advantage of and stayed out on the track hoping to gain track position, but the move resulted in the loss of several positions when racing resumed.
“We battled an ill handling car through most of the race”, Doug later stated in recapping his adventure on the 5/8th-mile oval. “We just couldn’t hit the mark in the set-up we need to chase down the leaders.”
Despite the problems, Brown persevered and moved up to 12th-place by lap 120. As the race worn down, the crew handled a fast one tire pit stop enabling Doug to catch and pass Jim Lapcevich for eleventh then gained the 10th-place finish when Don Thomson spun on the final lap.
The end result earned Doug the event’s “Hard Charger Award” for gaining the most positions from the start to end of the race and placed him in a 10th-place tie for Lapcevich in the tightening points’ race.
Dave Whitlock of Petrolia led Ron Beauchamp of Windsor and teammate Mark Dilley across the finish line to claim the all-Dodge top three positions in the 200-lap chase.
Pole sitter Pete Gibbons of Stouffville led the first 103 laps before yielding to JR Fitzpatrick of Ayr for a lap. The youngster’s lead was short lived when he was caught by Beauchamp who headed the field for laps 105 through 142 before Whitlock took charge for the balance of the event.
The teams now head back to Quebec’s Autodrome Ste. Eustache this weekend for event number 10 on the eleven-race schedule.
The schedule will close at Kawartha Speedway in two weeks time.

Langford Inc. to Equip Entire Fleet With Hy-Drive Technologies' Clean Burn Technology
Mississauga, Ontario – September 5, 2006 – September 5, 2006 - Hy-Drive Technologies Ltd. (TSX-V:HGS), a leading provider of on-vehicle, hydrogen generating systems (HGS) announced today that Langford, Inc. of St. Cloud, Minnesota will install the proprietary and patented Hy-Drive system throughout its entire fleet. Langford has been conducting a series of over-the-road test programs using the Hy-Drive HGS for the past several months on selected trucks. The Company has been studying the proposed benefits using PeopleNet's on-board web-based performance monitoring system. Minneapolis based, PeopleNet is one of North America's most innovative and reliable provider of Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems. Its technology allowed Langford, a long time user of the PeopleNet tracking system, the ability to analyze the performance of trucks equipped with the Hy-Drive HGS in order to verify the increased fuel efficiency, increased horsepower and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
"The proof is in the pudding," said Greg Langford, founder and president of the company, after reviewing the results of several months of testing the system. "One of our owner-operators has achieved an increase of more than a mile-per-gallon in fuel economy. We're getting better engine performance. But most importantly, we're cleaning up the environment."
"We are delighted that Langford, Inc. has become the first fleet using the PeopleNet tracking system to recognize the advantages of our technology and incorporate our units throughout their entire fleet," says Tom Brown, President and CEO of Hy-Drive. "We have more than 130 North American fleets that are currently evaluating our technology and we are confident that Langford represents the first of many companies that will become believers once they see the performance in real-world applications. The facts speak for themselves."
A former owner-operator, Langford and his wife, Joyce, established Langford Inc. in 1986. Using both company drivers and owner-operators, Langford excels in a competitive industry by specializing in hauling pre-fabricated high-end customized building products consisting of long-haul, multi-stop truckload and LTL shipments. Primary customers include Four Seasons Sunrooms and California Closet Co.
Langford's fascination with enhancing combustion with hydrogen dates back to 1984 when he tested a similar system for eight months. "It was primitive to say the least," he recalled. "Even with fuel at 85 cents per gallon, I could see the benefit. When fuel prices started climbing, I again started looking to what I'd learned about the benefits of hydrogen."
What he found was that under the innovative leadership of Hy-Drive, hydrogen enhanced combustion had come a long way. "Hy-Drive had developed a robust, reliable system that stood up to the rigors of the trucking environment," he said. "The more I looked, the more I liked. I liked the idea that they were publicly traded. I liked that they stood behind their product. I liked the fact that they were constantly looking to improve their products and not afraid to make mistakes. They have experience and know-how."
Langford cites the experience of his first two units - one on a company truck and one on an owner-operator's rig. "When we put it on our owner-operator's unit, mileage went through the roof," he said. "On the company unit, which was a 2005 Volvo, we knew we were getting a little more power and reduced emissions, but we weren't getting as great a difference in fuel economy as that of our owner-operator. Hy-Drive worked with us in optimizing the installation for fuel efficiency. We saw the improvement instantly and the rest is history."
After nearly four months of results, Langford's fuel economy has climbed to more than 7 miles per gallon in the units running the Hy-Drive system. That translates into a savings of $700 US a month, enough to pay for the system in
15 months.
For his owner-operators, Langford has set up a special $400 a month lease-purchase agreement to acquire the Hy-Drive system. In addition, he talks to both company drivers and owner-operators about fuel economy and how the Hy-Drive system can put more money in their pockets while cleaning up the air.
"We're creating a subculture," he says. "I'm a believer in getting off our dependence on foreign oil but more importantly, we have to leave a legacy for our kids and our neighbors and that's a cleaner environment."
In previous extensive customer trials and tests, the Hy-Drive system has demonstrated significant performance enhancements, including reduced emissions, increased torque/horsepower, fuel savings and extended engine life. These benefits, specifically fuel economy and reduced emissions, provide fleets with greater productivity overall, as their engines operate more efficiently, with improved cycle times and less carbon build-up.

Ron White rolls to victory at Mosport International Raceway
September 2, 2006. Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada - With the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto sweeping across the track, Ron White, of Santa Clara, California, pulled off a last lap pass for the second consecutive race weekend to capture his second victory of the year in Round Ten of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Mosport International Raceway. Joining White on the podium after the soggy event were Gerardo Bonilla, who had led most of the race, and Michael Potekhen.
Making his second start of the season for the newly formed Ross Smith Racing, White slid his way from eighth on the grid in the #69 Ross Smith Racing Maxwell Paper Products Mazda to battle Bonilla wheel-to-wheel through the last lap of the race, edging out the victory by 0.540 seconds. "I didn't even see the white flag for the final lap but saw that I was just a little bit better than Gerardo through the turn five and six section," White explained. "I got a good run through the corner and got a good draft off of him and tried to use sixth gear as we came down to turn eight. I didn't lift until I had to at the last minute and I was ahead."
Despite narrowly missing out on his second victory of the season, Bonilla was still satisfied with the race results after leading most of the event, "Ron White was really fast in the turn five complex and that was my weakest point so on the final lap I saw him coming up on me there and we both went into the corner excited and slid around a bit," Bonilla, pilot of the #9 Andersen Racing Team Skip Barber Mazda revealed. "We exited the corner side-by-side and were side-by-side down the entire back straight and then we went into turn eight both thinking we were going to win. Ron was able to edge out just a bit and I backed out as I figured second place was better than a crash. after all the work Andersen Racing Team has done for me."
Potekhen, driving the #53 Apex Racing Avenue Communities Mazda, was in the thick of the action all race long moving into third place early and watched first Charles Anti then Logan Gomez take over the position and then hand it back by spinning off the track in the slick conditions. "It was nasty out there today as you couldn't see anything and the track was really slick. It was like sticking your head out the widow of a car in blizzard when you're trying to drive 120 miles per hour," the Tempe, Arizona resident said. "Ron was able to get by with a good run on me coming onto the back straight when my traction control kicked in but we had a good car today and it feels good to be up front today."
With two races left in the 2006 campaign Adrian Carrio, who started on pole for the event in the #14 World Speed Motorsport Rockford Fosgate Mazda remains in first place after a seventh place finish, watching his lead slip slightly to 41 points over second place competitor Kevin Lacroix, who finished two spots ahead of him in fifth place. Ryan Justice sits in third place with 293 points overall after finishing in sixth place.
In the Expert Championship, for drivers aged 30-44, Bonilla earns the class victory and remains out front in the class championship with 176 points while Brian Thienes holds second place in his #77 JDC Motorsports Thienes Engineering Mazda with 138 points and Dan Tomlin III maintains third place with 130 points in the #56 Team Tomlin Mazda.
In the Masters Championship, for drivers aged 45 and older, Doug Peterson, driving the #87 American Speed Factory 3-Dimensional Services Mazda captured the class victory, finishing twelfth overall and sits on top of the class championship with 151 points. John Faulkner drove his #93 Phenom Racing Group Mazda to second in the class finishing seventeenth overall and climbs to second place with 133 points. Ken Losch drops from second to third in the class 132 points after finishing fourth in class in the #52 Apex Racing Avenue Communities Mazda.
In the Team Championship John Walko Racing climbs into first place with 192 points, World Speed Motorsports drops one spot to second place with 189 points and Apex Racing holds third place with 154 points.
The series now heads to Braselton, Georgia, for the penultimate round of the championship at the world renowned Road Atlanta circuit alongside the American Le Mans Series at the Petit Le Mans weekend on September 27-29. Round Ten of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear is scheduled to air on Speed Channel at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Saturday, September 9th. GRAND BEND, ON (September 3, 2006) – A large contingent of Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) competitors showed up at the Grand Bend Motorplex to do battle in the track’s “Castrol Thunder By the Beach – PMRA Challenge” weekend show, and Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, ON, won his first PMRA event.
“We finally got one,” said the driver of the Smokin Joe’s Dodge Avenger Pro Modified. “The track was a little slippery there in the final. I saw him coming up on me, but was able to put a little more into it to stay ahead at the finish.”
The win was the first for Boniferro, and his win marked the eighth different team victory in nine PMRA events for 2005 and 2006.
Taking runner-up was new PMRA member Jerry Bowles of Gadshill, ON, in his Diamond Motorsports, 526 Alan Johnson-powered 1941 Willys.
Qualifying and eliminations were interesting, and Terry Brown of Caledonia, ON wowed the large crowd with a career- best 6.420-second, 226.07 mph qualifying pass in his 1971 Challenger.
But former PMRA event winner Mark Nielson of Brantford, ON was on a mission as he powered his Nielson Motorsports 2000 Camaro to a 6.381-second, 210.46-mph lap to set him as number one qualifier.
Brown was next, followed by Bowles, then Boniferro, and St. Thomas winner Kasey Janzen of St. Catharines. Former PMRA champ Joe Lilienthal of Kenmore, NY, broke the rear end in his Jeep Pro Modified first round of qualifying, and had to sit out.
In the upset of the event, Nielson was taken out by number eight qualifier Rob Laperriere of Oshawa who motored to a win in his 1972 Vega as Nielson got loose several times trying to gain traction.
Boniferro took out Janzen in the first round, and Brown got a by run as Mark Mitchell of East Otto, NY, couldn’t fire his Studebaker Pro Modified for the round. Bowles just nipped by Dave Earhart of Strathroy, ON, in the closest race of the event, Bowles running a 6.578-second, 213.98 pass against Earhart’s strong 6.656-second, 215.00 mph effort.
Brown broke his engine, and couldn’t make the semi-final, so Bowles got a bye run, and Boniferro ran another straight and strong lap with his BI Chrysler 510 to park Laperriere.
When the final was run late in the evening, the track was getting a little slick, but both finalists ran straight and true, Boniferro posting his winning 6.756-second, 195.49 mph race over Bowles’ 6.997-second, 190.11 mph run.
WHITLOCK GETS IT DONE AT CAYUGA
Hamilton, ON, Monday Sept. 4, 2006: Dave Whitlock driver of the #39 NTN Bower/Griddly Headz/Nitrex Metal Technologies Dodge Charger, got it done Sunday night at Cayuga and captured his second checkered flag in three events after a long two year drought from the winners circle. "We weren't going to wait another two years," stated three time National Champion Dave Whitlock after the event. "We had a bit of a dry spell but our new car Wiley has two wins in three starts."
Saturday's practice, time trials and fifty lap qualifiers were rained out as Ernesto made himself felt in southern Ontario. The schedule for Sunday would see all events from both days being incorporated into one day. Whitlock practiced the #39 Dodge in the top five and then went on to time trial fifth quickest out of twenty seven competitors. This lined up the NTN/Griddly Headz/NMT Charger third in the first fifty lap qualifier. "The car was tight during the fifty but we found out the stagger closed up on us," said Whitlock. They held on for a second place finish which lined them up third on the grid for the Hot Head Henry 200 powered by Griddly Headz later that evening.
The 200 lap main event saw Whitlock quickly settle into the third position.behind leader #1 Peter Gibbons and second place #84 J.R. Fitzpatrick. They remained in that order until pit stops on lap 104. The #39 headed to the pits for two tires and fuel beating former leader Gibbons out of the pits to line up for the restart in seventh. It wasn't long until Whitlock was back into the top five and then he just continued picking them off one by one. He followed then leader #60 Ron Beauchamp Jr. in the Mopar Dodge for several laps and when Beauchamp slipped up in turn one Whitlock dove underneath him to take the lead on lap 143. The two of them dueled for the remaining 57 laps but Whitlock was up to the challenge and he brought the NTN-Bower/Griddly Headz/NMT Charger home for the win. "It was really neat tonight winning here," said Whitlock. "Our sponsors NTN, Griddly Headz and NMT were all here with staff and customers and Griddly Headz sponsored the race event so that all made it extra special. There were also three Dodge Chargers on the podium so we couldn't have asked for anything more."
Finish: 1. #39 Dave Whitlock 2. #60 Ron Beauchamp Jr. 3. #9 Mark Dilley 4. #1 Peter Gibbons 5. #3 Jason Hathaway 6. #88 Patrick Carpentier.
The points chase has tightened up considerably with seventy-six points between first and fifth. Dave Whitlock moved up two positions to third just one marker behind second place Kerry Micks and forty-five points behind leader J.R. Fitzpatrick. Four time CASCAR champion #4 Don Thomson Jr. currently sits fourth with #22 Scott Steckly is shown in fifth.
Cayuga Speedway Park has undergone some big changes with the new ownership group working to make the facility fan friendly. There were lots of new seats in the grandstand area, camping was very popular and the band shell was busy every night with music and entertainment. A big thank you to everyone at Cayuga Speedway Park for a job well done.
The CASCAR Super Series teams move on to race event number ten of their eleven race schedule next weekend just outside of Montreal at Autodrome St. Eustache. Gates open at 2:30 and racing action will follow.
In other team news, the #39 team also fielded a Sportsman car in the 100 lap Texaco Havoline event on Sunday afternoon (car #9). They were shown at the top of the charts after practice and put down the second quickest time trial time, however early in the 100 lap event the motor expired with Whitlock running in second chasing eventual winner Shawn McGlynn.

McIntosh returning to happy hunting ground
Montreal, Canada (September 05, 2006) – The World Series by Renault leaves mainland Europe and crosses the English Channel as Donington Park in England hosts Round 7 of the nine-round championship this weekend, 9th-10th September. Currently sitting seventh overall in the Driver Standings, Canada’s Sean McIntosh has long been waiting for the arrival of the British round of the series as he lists the track at Donington Park as a firm favorite.
First sampling the Derbyshire circuit in 2004, his rookie season competing in the Formula Renault UK Championship, McIntosh clinched the Graduate Cup Championship for first year drivers in the series at Donington courtesy of back-to-back podium finishes which placed him sixth overall in the end of year Driver Standings.
The 21-year-old from Vancouver returned for a crack at the Formula Renault UK Championship last season with Donington hosting the opening double-header last April. Rubber stamping the track as one of his favorites in the UK, Sean kicked off the season with a dominant victory in the second round. McIntosh duly went on to take the 2005 title fight all the way to wire, his tally of five wins a season-high shared only with eventual Champion Oliver Jarvis, the Brit narrowly taking the title ahead of McIntosh in second.
Sean’s current form in the 2006 World Series by Renault, including a fine second place podium finish at Spa in July, means he expects nothing less than a challenge at the head of the pack this weekend at Donington. Previewing his return to the track he commented:
“It’s been over a year since I last raced at Donington and I’m pretty keen to get back there. I had success there when I raced in British Formula Renault and it’s the first track we’ve been to this season where I’ve actually competed before. It’s a challenging circuit, it’s not like Turkey where it was really wide open, it’s quite tight and twisty but I enjoy it.
“Qualifying will be very important but I’m looking forward to getting back out onto the Grand Prix circuit having raced on it last season at the same event. I’m expecting to be up there at the sharp end from the beginning of the weekend. I’m taking things one race at a time but there’s still a chance to break into the top-five in the points and that would be a pretty satisfying end to my rookie season in the World Series by Renault.”
Race 1 (21 Laps) from Donington Park is set to get underway on Saturday, 9th September, at 3:10pm GMT with Race 2 (29 Laps) held on Sunday, 10th September, at 1pm GMT.
HATHAWAY RACES TO TOP 5 FINISH IN HOT HEAD HENRY 200
September 4, 2006-Nelles Corners, Ontario- After persistent rain washed out the Saturday schedule for the Labour Day Classic Weekend at Cayuga Speedway Park, Team 3 Red/EHR returned to the track early Sunday morning for the Hot Head Henry 200.
Dark clouds hung low on Sunday morning as Team 3 Red/EHR practiced their #3 Snap on Tools Dodge. The car was in the top 10 during practice and Crew Chief Duane Swinkels and crew made a few minor changes moving through practice in preparation for the 50 lap qualifier and 200 lap feature event.
The 50 lap qualifier later Sunday afternoon would set the starting field for the Hot Head Henry 200. Hathaway started 6th in the 50 lap dash. As the race moved to the half way point the track conditions changed and Hathaway's car began tightening up. Hathaway kept digging and put on a great battle with the #19 car for position claiming the 7th place finishing spot.
Hathaway started inside row 7 on the starting grid for the 200 lap feature event- Hot Head Henry 200. Although it took awhile to get the race underway as the first 20 laps were under caution, Hathaway moved inside the #11 and #43 car to solidify 11th place. The battle that started in the 50 lap qualifier resumed between Hathaway and #19 car as Hathaway reeled him in. By lap 54, spotter Mike Hathaway made a small change to the line Hathaway was driving and used a lap car to get the advantage on #19 to move up the running order. Hathaway moved into 6th place on a caution after a round of pit stops jostled the running order.
At the half way point,. #3 Snap on Tools Dodge was working the #22 for 5th, while #60 was knocking on the door behind him to join in! Caution flew on lap 101 and Hathaway brought his car in to the attention of his crew for tires, a chassis adjustment and fuel. The crew did a great job in the pits and Hathaway returned to the track in 12th. On the restart Hathaway did an excellent job and found his way through lap traffic along the back stretch and move up to 8th!
On lap 166, Hathaway's persistent charge toward the front of the pack paid off when he passed the points leader and very quick car of the #84 in corner 1 & 2 of the 5/8-mile oval after a 30 lap back and forth battle. The last re-start of the 200 lap event came on lap 179 and Hathaway set his sights on the #1 in 5th spot. A last lap incident at the front of the pack opened the door for Hathaway to charge forward grabbing the Team's first top 5 of the year.
Hathaway was pumped up with he climbed out of his car in post race inspection. "We had a great night tonight. We battled hard there with Brad (Graham) and worked our way up. The crew did a great job in the pits and Duane made some great calls on the changes on the car. My spotter Mike was great, helping me to get through traffic and helped me to make the right moves to get us here!"
Team 3 Red/EHR will take their 13th place driver points standings and Rookie of the Year lead to the tight 4/10 mile asphalt oval- Autodrome St. Eustache, next Saturday night September 9th, 2006 for their rain out make up date from early June.
Fitzpatrick Finishes Eighth at Cayuga – Point Leader Into Ste. Eustache
(Nelles Corner, Ontario) – J.R. Fitzpatrick and his Milwaukee Tools Electric Tools Chevrolet Monte Carlo returned to his home track last weekend, Cayuga Speedway, for the Hot Head Henry 200 at the 5/8th-mile track. Fitzpatrick entered the weekend as the points leader in the 2006 CASCAR Super Series championship, with an 11-point advantage over Kerry Micks. Following an all-day rain on Saturday, the entire program would be run on Sunday.
The day started with practice, and Fitzpatrick was able to turn one of the fastest times of the session, giving the entire crew a morale victory following a finish outside the top-five in Montreal the weekend before. “Our car was awesome right off the trailer. We came with a great setup and the car has run in the top-three every race this season, so I think we’re ready for anything today.”
Next up was the race against the clock in time trials and while Peter Gibbons was setting the fastest time with a lap of 21.024 seconds, J.R. was second, at a 21.135 second lap. The pair were well over a tenth of a second faster than the third-place car. “Peter is fast. We have a great car too, and I think it’s going to be good for the long haul, but Peter is just fast.”
Fitzpatrick would start on the pole for his 50-lap qualifying event, and it was all J.R. Ron Beauchamp Jr. would start on the outside of the front row, but Fitzpatrick was able to walk away from him, winning the race handily, and extending his point lead in the championship heading to the 200-lap feature. “I knew after we got rolling that this was the best car we’ve ever had at Cayuga. I just go out front and fell into a race pace.”
As the sun dipped behind the grandstand, J.R. and pole sitter Gibbons brought the field to the green flag. Fitzpatrick tried to hang tough on the outside and challenge the two-time National champion, but was slowed by a number of early yellows. On one of the restarts, he was able to get to the outside of Gibbons, but couldn’t pull off the pass. “Our strategy tonight was to ride it out. I took a couple of shots at Peter to see if I could lead a lap and get some bonus points, but I was content to make some laps, wait for my pit crew to have a fast stop, and then see if we could be in contention to win at the end.”
Fitzpatrick would take the lead from Peter Gibbons on lap 104 while a number of the leaders made pit stops. The crew was able to make another brilliant stop, getting J.R. out first among all the lead lap cars that pitted, and third overall, behind leader Ron Beauchamp Jr., and Micks. J.R. got past Micks early in the run and was using his fresh tires to put pressure on Beauchamp when the car lost horsepower. He dropped back to fifth almost immediately, and struggled for the rest of the night. “We broke a rocker stud and had to run the rest of the race on seven cylinders, and hope it held together. We were still getting through the corners fine, we just didn’t have any power.”
J.R. fought off a number of challenges during the second half of the race, trying to survive and salvage as many points as he could. He was still fifth with 50 laps to go, but would be shuffled back to ninth during the next 49 laps until a final lap spin by the third-place car allowed J.R. to move back up to an eighth-place result. “Our night was going awesome until that happened to the motor, and we were looking at having a great shot at the win. Luckily, most of the guys around us in points had a tough time and we didn’t get hurt in the standings.”
David Whitlock wrestled the lead away from Beauchamp on lap 143 and was able to hold off Ron for his second consecutive oval track victory. Don Thomson Jr. and Brad Graham made contact in turn three on the final lap, allowing Mark Dilley to claim third.
CONTESTING FOR A PODIUM FINSIH, GRAHAM HAS CONTACT ON THE FINAL LAP AT CAYUGA
September 4, 2006. Brad Graham and the Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts team looked to be on their way to another podium finish during round nine of the CASCAR Super Series. However the intense competition at Cayuga Speedway would result in contact and cost the team several positions.
Cayuga Speedway is the longest oval track on the CASCAR Super Series calendar and Brad Graham and the Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts team worked hard through practice to find the best handling characteristics for the 200 lap main event. “It was tough in the afternoon” said Graham. “But the guys made some changes for the race that worked out really well”.
Starting in eleventh spot Graham knew it would be a long night trying to make his way toward the front. “It’s really tough to pass here” said Graham. “But I had a good car and we picked up a few spots in the first half of the race. The only reason we started to slow up a bit was the tires were going away a little”.
The Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts team made their scheduled pit stop near the mid point of the race and it was routine service. “After the stop our car was right back on track” said the driver. And Graham went back to work making his way toward the front.
After passing several cars to move into fourth position Graham was right on the back of the third place competitor as the white flag waved signaling the final lap. In a bold move to claim a podium spot Graham drove hard into corner one and up the inside of #4 ahead of him. The two raced side by side into corner three and continued to make contact with each other, and both cars would spin.
Brad Graham would regain control of the Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts Charger and hustle across the finish line for a seventh place finish. “I drove as hard as I dared into corner one and we touched” said Graham afterwards “but on the last lap you’re going to do everything you can to gain a spot. I’m not going to try and deliberately take anybody out or mess up their race but I’ll go hard for a spot. We were both racing as hard as we could right to the end and we both wound up further back than we probably should have at the finish, but sometimes that’s the way it works out when you’re battling that close”.
Brad Graham and the Challenger Motor Freight/Logel’s Auto Parts team will be back in action this coming weekend at Autodrome St. Eustache for round ten. You can watch all the CASCAR Super Series races on Rogers Sportsnet check listings for times in your area. Look for the Challenger Motor Freight Recruitment coaches at most CASCAR events. CUT TIRE COSTS KENNINGTON AND CASTROL DODGE A GREAT FINISH

Courtesy TL Sports & Entertainment
September 4, 2006. Castrol Dodge driver DJ Kennington was looking to build on the strong effort his team put together last weekend at Cayuga Speedway in round nine of the CASCAR Super Series. However one flat tire would take away any chance of a top finish.
Kennington was among the quickest cars during practice and qualifying and lined up for the 200 lap feature at the 5/8 mile oval on the inside of row five. “The car felt really good all day” said Kennington. “We just worked on trying to be ready for the changing conditions”.
Even with several caution periods in the early going Kennington was able to assess the condition of the Castrol Dodge as being too loose. While he was able to run amongst the leaders, experience had taught him that an early pit stop for tires, fuel and a handling adjustment was necessary. “We didn’t have a winning car at that point, but we knew what changes to make” said Kennington.
The Castrol crew had a solid stop and returned DJ to the battle. “The car was much better after Dave Whyte and guys did their work” said the driver. “Now it was up to me.”
As pit stops for the rest of the competitors cycled through Kennington worked through the race traffic and had the Castrol Dodge up into third position just past the half-way point in the race. “We were in good shape, out strategy was really working and we were set to run the rest of the race”.
It was just after another caution period and green flag racing had resumed that DJ detected a problem with the Castrol Dodge. “I knew it right away, the handling wasn’t there and we had a right front tire going down”. After losing several positions Kennington was forced to make a green flag stop for a new tire.
“After we went down a lap it was all over” said the frustrated driver. “We just tried to do our best, but had to settle for a finish outside the top ten”.
Kennington and crew will now ready the Castrol Dodge for the next event at St. Eustache. “I’ve won at that track before” said DJ “hopefully we’ll have some luck on our side next week”.
You can watch DJ Kennington in all the CASCAR Super Series races on Rogers Sportsnet all season. Check your local listings for times in your area. To follow the CASCAR Super Series all year long check out http://www.cascar.ca/.
BRYAN CATHCART FIGHTS ILL HANDLING CAR AT CAYUGA
September 4, 2006. CASCAR Super Series race teams had to wait an extra day due to due rain before taking to the 5/8 mile track at Cayuga Speedway for round number nine. The condensed schedule and limited practice time would hurt the final results.
Cathcart and the MidAmerica Motorsports team were hopeful of a strong finish at their home track after battling with mechanical issues last weekend. “The car felt pretty good at first” said the driver “and we focused on the set up for the race” After passing open wheel racing sensation Patrick Carpentier in the 50 lap heat race Cathcart would line up on the inside of row eight for the feature.
“As soon as the green flag dropped I knew we had some issues” said the MidAmerica Motorsports driver. “Usually a car tightens up as the sun goes down and the temperature drops but we were big time loose”. The team decided and early pit stop was necessary for handling adjustments.
As the laps ticked away Cathcart continued to struggle with the loose race car. “We probably should have also run a different gear in the car” he stated afterwards. “If we’d run a little more in practice I think that would have been the decision we made, these are long straight-aways and you’ve got to make the right choice, unfortunately we made the wrong call”.
Even with all the difficulties encountered during the race, Cathcart would bring the car home only dropping one position on the night. “I’ve got to thank the guys for working to try and help me as much as they did” said Cathcart. “They really had to chase it tonight and I appreciate it. We’ll use the time now to get ready for the final race of the season at Kawartha in a couple of weeks. I like that track a lot and the team does too.”

CASCAR: Dodge-sponsored Charger Driver Mark Dilley 3rd at Cayuga
BARRIE, ON – At the start of the final lap of Sunday night’s CASCAR Super Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway, it looked like Mark Dilley was about to bring his #9 Dodge / Mobil1 / Exide / Leland / Avenue MotorWorks / CRS Dodge Charger home with a respectable fifth-place finish.
But in racing, it’s not over until it’s over. Last lap chaos involving the third and fourth-placed drivers boosted Dilley to third at the checkered flag, locking in an ‘all-Dodge podium’ featuring race-winner Dave Whitlock, runner-up Ron Beauchamp Jr. and Dodge-sponsored Charger driver Mark Dilley.
It was a pleasantly surprising turn of events for Dilley, who thought he might have cost his team a shot at a top finish, on lap 65 of the 200-lap race, when he felt he had a tire going down. The Goodyear slick turned out to be fine, but the trip to the pits to check it out sent Dilley to the back of the lead lap cars. From there, the Barrie, ON racer fought his way back through the pack to put himself into position to benefit from the last-lap shuffle.
“I just gave it all she had,” said Dilley, after the race. “I made a bad call, thinking that I had a flat tire when I didn’t. But we fought back as hard as we could after that. The other guys [Don Thomson & Brad Graham] tangled in turn 3 and I’m glad we made it through the mess because I had the pedal down, going for the opening. It was a great result to see my Whitlock Motorsports teammate Dave Whitlock win the race and for us to be on the podium with him, in third.”
Dilley continued, “It was a great night for our sponsors, especially Dodge to have three Chargers finish on the podium in a big race like the ‘Hot Head Henry 200 Powered by Griddly Headz’ here at Cayuga Speedway.”
Prior to the start of the feature race, on Sunday night at Cayuga, the entire time trial and sprint race portion of the program took place on Sunday afternoon, after heavy rain washed away the Saturday schedule.
Mark Dilley posted the seventh-fastest time during the 27-car time trial session, lapping the 5/8-mile Cayuga oval in 21.430 seconds. In his 50-lap qualifying sprint race, soon after, the Dodge-sponsored Charger driver came across the line in third-place.
On the strength of his third-place feature points and his third-place showing in the ‘half-points’ sprint race, Dilley heads to this weekend’s CASCAR Super Series race at Montreal’s Autodrome St-Eustache in sixth-place in the overall points chase.
Looking ahead to Montreal, Dilley said, “We’ve had some good runs of late, so we’re looking forward to St-Eustache. We’ve been fast there at times in the past, and although it’s not my favourite place in terms of our results, I know we’re capable of doing well there. We’re in the hunt, and that pumps you up.”
CAYUGA RACE NOTES: Mark Dilley’s Whitlock Motorsports teammate Dave Whitlock (NTN Bower / Griddly Headz Dodge Charger) won his second CASCAR Super Series race in a month when he took the checkered flag in Sunday night’s Hot Head Henry 200 at Cayuga Int’l Speedway.
Whitlock led a podium sweep by the Dodge Charger contingent, leading Ron Beauchamp Jr. (MOPAR Dodge Charger) and Mark Dilley (Dodge-sponsored Charger) across the start/finish line to end the 200-lap feature race.
Canadian open-wheel racing start Patrick Carpentier made his stock car debut at Cayuga, coming home with a respectable sixth-place result.
This weekend, CASCAR heads to Montreal’s Autodrome St-Eustache for the 10th of 11 events on its 2006 Super Series schedule. The race is a make-up date for a rainout at St-Eustache, earlier in the season.

The pre-race ceremony honouring Bob & Leone Slack was touching and well-done. Bob Slack gave another one of his classic speeches. Not quite on par with the "my dance with Linda Vaughan" doozie he offered at his Hall of Fame induction speech, but pretty darn close.

And move over Don Koharski (hockey reference...) Dave Whitlock is "King of the Donuts!!!!"

CASCAR: Carpentier sixth in stock car debut

(I spoke to Patrick Carpentier after the race on Sunday night and he had a blast. He came across the finish line sideways with mud and grass flying.... and when he came to a stop, he sat in his car clapping his hands with glee.
He has a ride on offer for the IRL race in Chicago this weekend, which he might have to accept... but if he has his choice, he'll be in the #88 on Saturday night at St-Eustache and again in the season finale at Kawartha.
It will be hard to get a ticket at St-Eustache if Patrick is racing there in front of his 'home' fans.
Carpentier said his future is in stock cars and he wants to get all the practice he can. He's looking for a multi-race Busch Series ride for 2007... sort of what Paul Tracy's doing. I have a ton of quotes and will try to post them in the next few days.
Finally, he was a gentleman who worked well with the #88 team, and was friendly with the other racers and fans, all of whom were eager to make him feel welcome.
Below is the team's press release from the race....)
*************
Montréal, QC, September 3, 2006 – Canadian open-wheel star Patrick Carpentier had his first taste of stock car competition on Sunday finishing sixth in Round 9 of the CASCAR Super Series 2006 schedule held at Cayuga International Speedway, located east of Hamilton.
Driving the Lou’s BBQ / CP Flooring #88 Ford Taurus of team owner and active driver Dave Jacombs of Mount Hope, Ontario, Carpentier finished on the leader’s lap in a very exciting finish of the Feature race that saw him take the checkered flag almost backward after an encounter with an opponent on the last corner of the race. Ontario drivers Dave Withlock of Petrolia, Ron Beauchamps Jr. of Windsor and Mark Dilley of Barrie swept the podium at the conclusion of the 200-lap Hot Head Henry Feature Race, a night race run under the lights.
“Wow, what an exciting finish,” commented Carpentier when reached after the race. “The team did a great job during the last pit stop, changing all four tires and still managing to gain three positions. The car was really great after that. I was kind of nice in the early part of the race, but even though the drivers are great guys outside the track, when it comes to racing, it’s everyone for himself. Therefore, I started to push a little more and it worked. In the last corner of the race, I tried to get by car #3 (Jason Hathaway) to finish in the Top-5, but I pushed on the accelerator a little too much and lost control of the car. I avoided the wall to cross the finish line sideways. It gets very busy on such a short track. It’s a good thing that I had a great spotter because even though the car has mirrors, you don’t see much on either side of it.”
Following Saturday’s postponement due to inclement weather in the Southern Ontario region, teams and drivers were ready for a full day of competition. Carpentier really enjoyed his first outing in the tin top car, even though he encountered a few problems during his first day of competition. The Joliette, Quebec driver ran amongst the Top-10 in his first ever practice session with other drivers on the track in the morning. Following that, Carpentier was 9th fastest in the time trials to start fifth in his 50-lap shootout race. Unfortunately, a slow leaking puncture suffered halfway through the race slowed the driver down, and he finished one lap down when his rear tire finally blew up on the penultimate circuit.
“At the start of the shootout race, I was checking out the other drivers’ race lines because during the morning session, they were going in and out of the pits and there was no way to figure out where it was,” said Carpentier, who runs with a personal sponsorship from Mecachrome Canada. “Everything was going well and I was running within the Top-10. Then, the car started to get loose and I was wondering if I had overcooked the tires. I didn’t want to complain on the car’ s behavior, but the crew eventually told me over the radio that I had a rear tire going down. I knew that I could not stop to change it. Even though I was losing ground, I was hoping it would resist until the end but it finally blew up before the checkered flag came out.”
Team owner David Jacombs, who ran the first seven races of the 2006 season, yielded his seat to Carpentier after Jerry Santucci, the new track owner of Cayuga International Speedway, proposed to sponsor Carpentier’s inaugural stock car race this weekend.
“The Jacombs crew did a fantastic job setting the car up for me, continued Carpentier. “Earlier in the day, the drivers in the series knew that I was new at this and they were really great with me. They gave me pointers, advice and all kinds of information relating to race lines and how to handle traffic. These were things that I really appreciated, as I am just a rookie in this series. I really love it.”
Round 10 of the CASCAR Super Series will be held next weekend at Saint-Eustache Speedway ( www.autodrome-st-eustache.com/ ), a half-mile track located 40 minutes northwest of downtown Montreal. Visit http://www.cascar.com/ for complete race results information.

CASCAR SPORTSMAN: Shawn McGlynn wins the Texaco-Havoline 100 CASCAR Sportsman Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway

HAMILTON, ON – Shawn McGlynn put on a dominant performance in Sunday’s Texaco-Havoline 100 CASCAR Sportsman Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway.
The Kitchener, ON racer started on the pole for the 100-lap race around the 5/8-mile speedway and led every lap. At the checkered flag, the Ford driver finished almost five seconds ahead of reigning series champ Dion Verhoeven (McRoberts Fuels Pontiac) and Steve Munro (Hot Wheels Chevy).
The victory was the third of McGlynn’s career and second in a row. In the last two races combined, the veteran racer has led 199 of a possible 200 feature laps.
Three-time CASCAR National champion Dave Whitlock, who would go on to win the Hot Head Henry 200 Powered by Griddly Headz CASCAR Super Series race later in the evening, started second in the field of 17. The Wyoming, ON driver set the fastest lap of the race and was running a close second to McGlynn when his engine expired just seven laps into the Texaco-Havoline 100.
Following four CASCAR Sportsman Series races, Dion Verhoeven leads the points by two markers over Shawn McGlynn (326 to 324). The fifth and final CASCAR Sportsman Series race of the 2006 season takes place in two weeks at Kawartha Speedway.

CASCAR: Dave Whitlock wins the Hot Head Henry 200 CASCAR Super Series race at Cayuga Int’l Speedway
Whitlock’s NTN Bower / Griddly Headz / NMT Dodge Charger lined up fifth in the field of 27 starters for the event and powered past race leader and eventual runner-up finisher Ron Beauchamp Jr. (MOPAR Dodge Charger) on lap 143 of the 200-lap chase around the 5/8-mile speedway, located south of Hamilton, ON. Over the remainder of the race, Beauchamp fought to regain the position, but he wasn’t able to recover the lead from the three-time CASCAR National champ.
“Ronnie [Beauchamp] got a little bit wide going around a lapped car and I nosed it in there,” said Whitlock, in victory lane. “I took the hole and made a clean pass. I wasn’t going to wait two years before winning again. Ron was driving for all he was worth after I got past him, but we managed to stay ahead.”
Finishing third at Cayuga was Dodge-sponsored Charger driver Mark Dilley, of Barrie, ON. The top-three finishers delivered a podium sweep for Dodge. Dilley was running fifth on the final lap when Brad Graham (Challenger / Logel’s Dodge) and Don Thomson Jr. (Home Hardware Chevy), who were in third and fourth, respectively, at the time, came together in turn 3 with disastrous results for both. Graham ended up seventh, while Thomson was scored in 12th, the last car on the lead lap.
Peter Gibbons (Canadian Tire Chevy) was scored fourth at the end of the Hot Head Henry 200. The Stouffville, ON racer earned the pole position for the race by posting the fastest time during time trials earlier in the afternoon. He also won his 50-lap Sprint race and showed the way for the first 103 laps of the feature race, in spite of fighting a loose condition with his car throughout the first half.
CASCAR’s top rookie in 2006, Jason Hathaway (Snap On Dodge Charger) finished fifth, ahead of Canadian road racing star Patrick Carpentier (#88 Cayugaracing.com / Lou’s BBQ Ford), who climbed from 21st on the starting grid to take an impressive sixth in his first-ever stock car race.
Points leader J.R. Fitzpatrick (Milwaukee Tools Chevy) was eighth at Cayuga. The bright spot of his day came during his 50-lap sprint race when he took the checkered flag. The young Ayr, ON racer holds a 44-point lead over Kerry Micks (Berkshire Ford) heading to next weekend’s CASCAR Super Series race at Montreal’s Autodrome St-Eustache. The race was postponed by rain earlier in the season.
