MOTORCYCLES: Szoke "Goes Green" for 2011
Jordan Szoke has signed a one year deal with Competition Systems and Canadian Kawasaki for 2011. Szoke will aim for his sixth consecutive Superbike Championship aboard the all new 2011 Kawasaki ZX10.
Szoke’s record book history with “Team Green” dates back to his first Superbike Championship in 1998 as the youngest racer to win a National Championship in Canadian History aboard a ZX-7. Szoke returned to Kawasaki in ‘06 which lead to a record breaking string of National Superbike and Sportbike Championships in 2006-2007-2008-2009 aboard the infamous 636, ZX6 and ZX10. Worldly sources were calling as Szoke was also invited to Valencia Spain in 2008 to ride the Moto GP ZX-RR, and filled in for injured AMA Superbike racer at Laguna Seca for Monster Energy Kawasaki.
Most recently Szoke earned the Superbike and Pro Sportbike National Championships in 2010 stretching his back to back consecutive championships to five. Owning and Managing his own team also earned him “Team of the Year”.
When asked about being back under the Kawasaki banner Szoke says “It feels really good to be back on a Kawi again. I have worked with the same crew in our championship seasons previous, so I am excited to be back. Kawasaki also has a new ZX10 model out so I can’t wait to ride and develop that.”
When asked about the new model for ‘11 Szoke replies, “I have spent a lot of my career developing motorcycles, and this one is no different. Kawasaki has a brand new model this year and it looks really (really) awesome. With the team that we have working with us, and my experience I don’t foresee any problems getting the new superbike up to speed.”
Competition Systems and Szoke plan on starting pre-season testing in March.

SNOWMOBILES: Opening Day Roundup at the Grand Prix of Valcourt
Valcourt, Québec, February 18, 2011. - Gary Moyle of Houghton, Michigan won Friday's opening Pro Champ 440 race, the opening round of the SCM Eastern Pro Tour finale at the Grand Prix Ski-Doo of Valcourt presented by La Capitale General Insurance.
The two-time snowmobile World Champion, who currently holds second place in the TLR Cup championships series, was handed the win after Malcolm Chartier of Fair Haven, Michigan was disqualified after his snowmobile was found to be under the weight limit. Dan Fenhaus of Wausau, Wisconsin finish second ahead of Nicholas Van Strydonk, last year grand winner at the Grand Prix of Valcourt. Fourth place went to 19 years old Nick Lagoy of Morrisonville, NY ahead of Jason Lavallée of Drummondville, QC.
In the first qualifying wave, Jacques Villeneuve violently went off course on the last lap of his qualifying group while running in second place. The Quebec rider seriously damaged the front end of his Ski-Doo snowmobile when he went through the hay bales of corner after something seems to have broken in his front suspension. His accident prevented him from running in the first Pro Champ finale of the weekend.
Camoplast Snocross Championship: In the Camoplast SCM Snocross Championship, Shan Pépin of Sainte-Julie (QC) moved passed Jennifer Paré of La Doré (QC) on lap six of nine to win the snocross Sports 600 class race. Leo Patenaude of Hartland, Vermont finished third.
In the Pro Open 600, Emil Ahman of Sweden crossed the finish line ahead of Quebec rider Tim Tremblay and Brett Turcotte of Clearwater, British Columbia to sweep a podium finish for the U.S. based ISOC Series. Danny Poirier of Saint-Théodore d'Acton (QC), a regular in the East Coast Snocross Series, finished fourth ahead of two other ECS regulars, Matt Piche of Port Jefferson (NY) and Matt Morin of Val d'Or (QC). This results could be a preview of the big one on Sunday.
The Grand Prix of Valcourt continues Saturday with 14 Eastern Pro Tour ice oval finales and three final rounds of the Camoplast Snocross Championship. Motocross and ATV riders will make their first run of the weekend at the Grand Prix of the weekend.

NASCAR: Fitzpatrick Qualifies 42nd for NASCAR Nationwide Series Start
Daytona Beach, Florida (February 18, 2011) – Canadian J.R. Fitzpatrick will line up 42nd on the grid for Saturday’s ‘DRIVE4COPD 300’, Round 1 of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series, after Friday afternoon’s 45-car qualifying session at the Daytona International Speedway, Florida.
The 22-year-old Cambridge, Ontario racer was eleventh out in the qualifying order piloting the Schick Hydro/Energizer No.27 Baker Curb Racing Ford Mustang around the famed 2.5-mile speedway at Daytona Beach.
Fitzpatrick’s qualifying speed and time, 175.005mph and 51.43s respectively, place him at the rear of the field but having successfully showcased his pace in the draft in the week’s earlier practice sessions, the Canadian knows a much stronger race finish is on the cards in tomorrow’s 300-mile outing.
"I did what I had to do in qualifying, I hit my marks but flat-out pace on our own we knew would be an issue here,” stated Fitzpatrick – the 2006 CASCAR Champion and last year’s NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Runner-Up.
He continued; “We knew the car wasn't going to set a blistering lap out there today, it's not what we’ve been working on. This car is awesome in the draft however, that’s definitely our strength, and I'm feeling pretty confident we're going to have a great race tomorrow once we’re mixing it up in the pack. I can't wait to finally get some racing underway, it's what we've all been waiting on this week!"
Clint Bowyer captured the pole in the No.33 entry with a run of 180.821mph/49.77s with the veteran joined on the front-row by Landon Cassill in the No.1 car having run 180.600mph/49.83s in qualifying.
The ‘DRIVE4COPD 300’ kicks off the 34-round 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule with the race starting at 1:15pm EST, Saturday 19th February.
TSN2 will broadcast the race live in Canada with coverage starting at Noon EST while ESPN2 will carry the event live in the US.

The #38 crew went over the motor and what they found was that when they had the earlier problem with the distributer rotor, it was not set back in place the same and the timing was off eight degrees. Once the timing was reset to where it belonged, the motor sounded much better and the crew felt that they now had a better chance of running at the front with their progression throughout the week in the cars handling.
Only nine Late Models showed up for the show, led by the #33, #11 & #38 as the top three, however the #33 decided to start at the back of the pack allowing Kirk to move up into the pole position. The #38 Imperial Paper Chevy took the green flag first with the #11 on the outside and when the #11 did not get on it hard at the line, it opened up the outside lane allowing the cars directly behind Kirk to quickly jump outside and get a run on the first lap.
The #20 and #36 were the two that quickly reacted and held Kirk to the bottom as they put the #38 into 3rd by the end of the first lap. An early caution for the #4 who spun in the back, regrouped the field and put Kirk on the inside lane behind the #36 and beside the #119. The #119 got a better run on the restart and after two laps of side by side racing, took over 3rd followed by the #26 who put the Chrysler Shillington Chartered Accountants Chevy into 5th on lap 5.
The #20 and # 36 battled nose to tail for the lead well ahead of the #26 and #119 who were having their own battle for 3rd at the half way mark followed closely by the #38. The #26 moved up to join the #20 and #30 leaving the #119 behind with the #38 still on his tail. With ten laps remaining, the #36 won the battle with the #20 and with the #26 catching the leaders, there was now a nose to tail pack looking for the win.
The order was unchanged with 5 laps remaining with the #38 Race Time Radio Chevy pushing hard to get the 4th position away from the #119. The final laps clicked off and neither of the top three or the #38 could make a move to change the finishing order giving the win to the #36 followed by the #26, #119 and then Kirk in the #38.

Two Michiganders will compete in Sunday’s Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2011) – In the ultimate display of brotherly love, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series superstar Brad Keselowski pushed his unsung older brother Brian Keselowski right into Sunday’s Daytona 500.
The two brothers from Rochester Hills, Mich., hooked up and sliced through the field during the second of two Gatorade Duel qualifying transfer races Thursday at Daytona International Speedway to secure spots in the Great American Race. Brian finished the qualifying race fifth; Brad finished seventh.
“I didn’t breathe for the last 15 laps. I don’t know if I’m going to breathe for the next three days. But it doesn’t matter, we’re in the (Daytona 500),” Brian Keselowski said after the race.
Sunday’s race will be the Sprint Cup debut for Brian Keselowski, 29. He’ll start the race 12th. Brad, the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion, will start 16th.
By most standards, the chances of Brian Keselowski making the 43-car field for the Daytona 500 were slim. He had the slowest car after qualifications on Sunday and would be forced to earn one of only two transfer spots during the second of the Duel races.
His is an unsponsored, family owned 2006 Dodge competing against the likes of mega-funded super teams like Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Childress Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing. Brian’s dad Bob Keselowski, a former ARCA champions, owns the car.
The new racing surface and car setups at Daytona all but force a two-car draft so what’s a driver for a single-car team like Brian Keselowski to do?
Luckily everyone cheers for the underdog – especially a younger brother like NASCAR sensation Brad Keselowski.
And Brad, 27, needed a little help, too. A spin early on left him in the back of the pack so he hooked his legendary No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge to Brian’s rear bumper in the hopes of catching the leaders.
“I said, ‘Heck, I’ve got a great guy to work with back here after the spin and at least I know that he’s not going to dump me,’” Brad Keselowski said. “The next thing you know we’re running fourth, fifth and then second. I put the pedal to the floor and kept on pushing. I restarted on that last restart ninth or 10th, drove up there to sixth or seventh and just kind of stalled out. It’s a great feeling.”
Brian Keselowski cried after the race. The first to the car to congratulate him was Brad.
“He’s got to be the best pusher out here. He’s got to be,” Brian Keselowski said of Brad. “To watch him push everybody for the past two or three years, and then push me into this thing. This dog would not hunt all weekend long and then to push me into the race, I don’t know what they got under that hood but it’s awesome.”
“I can’t say that I’ve always been there every step of the way. But I think I was there today,” Brad Keselowski added. “I’m going to ask Roger (Penske) if he can help him with a motor on Sunday. Hopefully we can work together on Sunday, too.”
Jeff Burton won the race. Earlier in the day Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski’s teammate, won the first of the two Gatorade Duels. The duels are the qualifying races that set the field for the Daytona 500.
Five drivers, Casey Mears, Todd Bodine, Derrike Cope, Michael McDowell and Kevin Conway, failed to make the field. Cope won the Daytona 500 in 1990; Mears finished second to Jimmie Johnson in 2006.
The Daytona 500 is at 1 p.m. on FOX. Coverage throughout the day will be on FOX, SPEED and ESPN. Check local listings.

Rain Tempers Fitzpatrick’s Daytona Practice - Canadian Turns First Laps in 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series
Daytona Beach, Florida (February 16, 2011) – The Sunshine State threw a curveball at Canada’s J.R. Fitzpatrick at the Daytona International Speedway today with rain delaying much of the scheduled on-track practice ahead of Saturday’s ‘DRIVE4COPD 300’, the opening round of the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Fitzpatrick finally emerged late afternoon turning his first laps at the legendary 2.5-mile tri-oval track behind the wheel of the Schick Hydro/Energizer #27 Baker Curb Racing Ford Mustang.The 22-year-old from Cambridge, Ontario had the opportunity to run a mixture of single-car runs as well as some laps in the draft during a pair of hour-long practice sessions, as the NASCAR Nationwide Series field was finally unleashed having watched the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series hit the slow-drying track first.“I’m happier with the car after the last practice session,” stated Fitzpatrick - the 2006 CASCAR Champion. “I had the chance to work with Kyle Busch for a bit there and learned a lot about what we need for final practice tomorrow. Overall, with the weather, it wasn’t really the day we were hoping for but those things are out of our control. Hooker Brother Racing - New Smyrna Update #4
Kirk Hooker - Post Race Update #4, New Smyrna Speedway Florida February 15, 2011
The Hooker Crew had yesterday off and enjoyed the beautiful Florida weather by going to the flea market in Daytona followed up by a trip to the local dirt track that evening. After a disappointing DNF finish on the previous night of racing the crew were determined to get the car geared up for a win. The focus was on curing a tight condition that seemed to come into play as the race went on and the crew made adjustments throughout the day to hopefully eliminate the problem.
Warmer than normal temperatures greeted the Hooker Crew as they readied for their 25 lap feature in their t-shirts. The #38 Waddick Fuels Chevy lined up 7th for what was hoped to be a trouble free night compared to the bad luck that was surrounding many of the Canadians that made the trip south of the border.
The 11 car field took the green flag and as the leaders entered turns 3&4, the front runners got together causing a big wreck. Kirk was directed low on the track and managed to avoid contact. The crew anticipated trouble up front and keen eyes kept the Shear Metal Products Chevy damage free. After a lengthy delay under a red flag, the field was a complete restart with had Kirk restarting in 6th. As the nine car field took the first green flag lap, Kirk was shuffled back to 8th until he regained one position on the next lap into 7th.
The #15 jumped up front followed by the #115 and #36 who were well spread out with a good lead on the balance of the cars who were running nose to tail with the #38 Pepsi/Amp Energy Chev glued to the bumper of the #21. The #26 moved up into third as the #33 pulled off the track leaving only eight cars running and Kirk in 7th as they counted off lap ten. Laps counted down without incident or changes in the running order other than the top three closed the gap on each other as the final five ran well behind.
The #26 took over 2nd as the field received the five to go signal and brother Randy was working hard on the radio giving Kirk encouragement to dig hard and get around the #21 whom he had been racing hard with throughout most of the race. Kirk was able to get a good run through the corners, however the #21 seemed to have more power and would pull ahead down the straight-aways. The order remained the same for the final five laps and the #15 took the win followed by the #26, #36, #119, #20, #21, #38 and #11 to round out the eight car field that finished the race.
Back in the pits, Kirk reported that the car handled fine, however he did think that the motor was tired and that it was a lack of horsepower that was their problem. The crew would call the engine builder in the morning to see what advice they could get to liven up the McColl Racing Enterprises Chevy.

NISSAN AND NISMO UNVEIL 2011 MOTORSPORTS ACTIVITY PLAN
YOKOHAMA (Feb. 14, 2011) - Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd.(NISMO) today announced their 2011 global motorsports program.
For 2011, Nissan continues its participation in the SUPER GT series, GT500 class, which is the highest level in Japanese domestic motorsports, with the Nissan GT-R.
In addition, Nissan will again provide technical support to private teams through NISMO, competing with a total of 4 Nissan GT-Rs in the FIA GT1 World Championship in its second year.
Nissan will further support grassroots activities through a driver scholarship program and support for private racing teams.
1. SUPER GT
· Vehicles:The R35 model NISSAN GT-R will take part in the SUPER GT series’ GT500 class. NISMO will develop the cars and provide technical support for participating teams. The 2011 NISSAN GT-R will incorporate changes in the VRH34A engine that include improved torque in the critical revolution range for competition, along with increased horsepower. Also refined is detailed design of the body to improve downforce. The reliability of the GT-R drivetrain is increased as well.
· Team Composition:NISMO, TEAM IMPUL, KONDO RACING and a newcomer, MOLA, will deploy one car each, for a total of four Nissan GT-Rs competing across the Nissan teams. A new stable of top-class drivers will join this season. Kunihiko Kakimoto will continue as the general director of the teams driving Nissan cars.
2. FIA GT1 World Championship
NISMO will supply four R35 model NISSAN GT-Rs for the private teams participating in the FIA GT1 World Championship, as well as providing technical support. SUMO POWER GT, which won one race last year, will continue to compete in the championship and JR MOTORSPORTS (JRM) will join the race this year with the NISSAN GT-R.
· Vehicles:
Although significant changes to vehicle specification are not allowed due to the FIA GT1 technical regulations, the 2011 GT-R features a lighter weight body and modified front bumper for improved aerodynamics.
3. NISSAN Driver Development Program (NDDP):Nissan will continue to support Formula Challenge Japan (FCJ), which started in 2006 with the aim of educating young drivers to enable them to compete worldwide.
Three young drivers have been chosen as Nissan Advance Scholarship drivers. Among them, two will take part in the National (N) Class of the All-Japan F3 Championship and one will receive support to run in Formula 3 Euro Series . Three additional individuals have been selected as Nissan Scholarship drivers and support to run in FCJ.

The main component of the contingency program applies to the 2011 CASC Autoslalom series, 2011 Time Attack series, 2011 GT Sprints series and 2011 GT Challenge series and rewards winning competitors for participating in the BF Goodrich championship program.
• Top finishing place = Free set of tires
• 2nd place = $500 coupons
• 3rd place = $300 coupons
There will also be a random awards component for those competitors that participate in the BF Goodrich tire contingency program throughout the season. Coupons will be awarded via random draw to eligible competitors towards the purchase of BF Goodrich tires. More details about the program will be forthcoming.
