ONTARIO SPORTSMAN SERIES: 2007 schedule released

Dave Connelly of the newly-created Ontario Sportsman Series (OSS) just called with the dates and tracks for the 2007 season. The six-race schedule will contest races at Mosport Speedway, Cayuga Speedway (2), Sauble Speedway, Peterborough Speedway and Sunset Speedway.

This series - which will feature cars and drivers of the defunct CASCAR Sportsman Series - went from the idea stage to a 'named' series with a published schedule in under a month. An impressive feat by any measure.

According to Connelly, this year's OSS will include just six races, with the goal of seven or eight for 2008.

Ontario Sportsman Series (OSS) // 2007 Schedule

DATE: TRACK

June 16: Mosport Speedway

June 23: Cayuga Speedway

June 30: Sauble Speedway

July 14: Cayuga Speedway

July 21: Peterborough Speedway

August 25: Sunset Speedway

Interesting. I was hoping to see a Grand Bend date on the schedule, but still a decent schedule...Hopefully the car count comes about for it to be a success...Kinda makes NASCAR look kinda silly, doesn't it?

looks like a nice mixture between the bigger tracks and the short stuff......i wonder how many nascar guys will show up......whitlock went to cayuga and kawartha last year i think.....brad graham ran it all 2 years ago.....and i heard this year all they have to do is switch their carb and they're legal.....my calculations is there's only one conflict when they head out west.....could be fun for them we'll have to figger a name out for them......down south it's bushwackers.......so any thoughts on a name?

You think the NASCAR CTS guys are going to risk wrecking their expensive taxi's running the OSS events, for alot less money,on the short tracks like Sunset and Peterborough etc...? If they do,then how about "FOOLS" as a nickname [LOL] and i don't want to hear them crying that their budgets are to small,if they do run with OSS.Should be an interesting season in many areas, but i don't think this new Series will last two events, unless they make rules that local LLM can run with them.THEN IT WOULD WORK.

someone obviously owns LLM car....lol. Speaking of the purse structure......what's the nascar purse structure for 2007......how can you be sure that's it more the OSS deal? And if i recall the only difference between a front running OSS car and a front running Nascar CTS car is the motor....same bodies, same gears, same trani's,same ignition, same radios, same seats, same suspension, same shocks, same safety gear....

I think the Nascar guys will show up. If the purse is right you'll see it happen. Plus the Sportsman Series is famous for it's clean racing even at short tracks like Barrie or Peterborough.

All the power to then for pulling toether after being "dumped" by Nascar. And at leats they have a schedule already, mabey they can help the new canadian tire series with theirs. In regards to the short tracks Sunset and Sauble are alot smaller than Peterborough, but im sure they'll run a great race. good luck

Everyones hats should off to Ron and Ted Lethbridge. They've accomplished the near impossible, by getting a Series started and a schedule out in a VERY short time frame. I'm sure there are others who were intrical in putting this thing together, but the Lethbridges were the instigators and the driving force. If this series can survive the first year, it will flourish and grow. We all as racers and race fans, should be supporting this Series, that was born from a group of dedicated RACERS!!

Here, Here.......this series is so important for some many different reasons to so many diffrent people.

For LLM drivers; this allows them to be involved in a touring series in a chassis that is the same as the nascar cts cars and it has a higher dependence on crews for set-ups in longer races as well as pitstops which are a necessity for the nascar cts series.

For Nascar CTS drivers; this allows a market for used equipment to be sold off so the teams can stay current.

For Nascar; it creates a series that allows teams to take baby steps in being involved in the nascar series by learning the cars etc. and by slowly acquiring assets to run in the national series.

For current Sportsman drivers; all the reasons above but it also creates a market and value for your current equipment that would otherwise be worthless.......

everyone should be doing there all to make sure that this happens successfully

I wonder if their would be any way to include Alstar cars with weight penilities?
