NHRA President Tom Compton statement on the passing of Eric Medlen

NHRA President Tom Compton statement on the passing of Eric Medlen

Words cannot describe how everyone at NHRA is feeling after the passing of one of our brightest young stars, Eric Medlen. He earned his way to the top through hard work and perseverance and, in doing so, gained the respect of his fellow competitors.

Eric was a great spokesperson not only for John Force Racing but the sport of NHRA POWERade Drag Racing and he will be forever remembered for his enthusiasm, uplifting personality and ever-present smile. He was destined to become a great champion in the sport and all of us at NHRA are grateful and fortunate to have shared in some of his glory.

Eric left this sport far too soon and his absence will be felt by everyone within the NHRA racing community. On behalf of everyone at NHRA, I want to send our sincere condolences to the Medlen family and John Force Racing.

There is a major void in the NHRA community today and forever more, NHRA not only lost a champion driver, but a one of the nicest most uplifting ambassadors for the sport of drag racing. My heart and thought's go out to the family of Eric Medlen, John Force Racing, and those who were closest to him. Eric you will be deeply missed, but we all thank you for letting us in on your love for the sport of racing, and your passion for live. God Speed Eric and thanks for the memories.

Every time we lose anyone in the racing community, it leaves us all shaken and a bit empty. Though most of us never knew, nor met Eric, he was a racer, and therefore a part of us all. Motorsports in general is slighty less for his passing. My condolences to the family and to all of his friends.

Eric,
There is a special place in heaven for drag racers. You left a void in the hearts of all those who knew you and respected you. Many tears will be shed for you and the tears will dry and life will go on. But the memory of the cowboy that could break the wild mustang in 4.5 seconds will never run dry. May god hold you in his hands. rest in peace brother.

You died Eric doing what you loved. The racing spirit is something only understood by those who love racing.
