INSIDE TRACK: News & Notes for Wednesday

OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY:
Ohsweken Speedway is getting an online facelift for 2007.

NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES:
Barrie Speedway has posted its 2007 schedule, including its two NASCAR Canadian Tire Series dates. Same for Cayuga Speedway. Riverside Speedway now has a NCATS logo on its site, but is still listing its mid-September 300-lap race as TBA.

So in reality, track websites have accounted for 11 of the 12 events that NASCAR has said it would put on in 2007. By all accounts, the NASCAR Busch Series race weekend in Montreal is the final domino to fall.

DELAWARE SPEEDWAY:
If you're in the London (ON) area this weekend, why not stop by the Delaware Speedway booth at the London Auto Expo and try your hand at the Pit Stop Tire Change Competition. Details on the show and the competition can be found here.

VARNEY MOTOR SPEEDWAY:
Varney Motor Speedway has done some work on the DRIVER PROFILES page of its website. Click here to check it out.

RACEPULSE:
If you like racing and have some time to poke around a Canadian racing site that features news, photos, schedules, etc.... then check out Derek Smith's RACEPULSE.COM. Derek works hard to always have something new on his site.

iont get it. Of all of the NCTS events, you would think they Busch race would be the easiest to organize. NASCAR is running the event!!

NASCAR signed a deal last October to have the NASCAR Busch Series race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course.

They signed that deal with Normand Legault's company GMI, which also runs Montreal's F1 event at the same facility. In short, Legault runs everything associated with car racing at the facility.

If NASCAR were "running the event", you would be correct to assume that the situation surrounding the NCATS race would be easily resolved. But they aren't.

Legault has a reputation for playing hardball. IMO, he must be doing exactly that with regard to the NCATS race during his Busch/Rolex Series weekend this summer.

Today is one month later than when the CASCAR Super Series schedule was released in 2006 (February 21, 2006).

Playing Hardball with NASCAR though. NASCAR can crush him I would think. NASCAR is one company I would not mess with like that becasue sooner or later it would come back to hurt me

Mr. Legault has a long and successful history of going toe-to-toe with the biggest of them, and he always seems to come out smelling like a rose.

yea but like, what harm could the cascars do racing there, they did last year. i just dont see what he could be playing hard ball for

I'm sure it all boils down to money. He knows NASCAR really wants NCATS at the event and NASCAR is trying to get more for him to have the NCATS cars there. I believe NASCAR is planning to use the Busch race TV/Media coverage to expand the marketing/branding of the NCATS, and Legault knows this.

The Busch series should have gone with Mosport. I suppose it's more about the media event than the quality of the racing. The Busch race will be a gold mine for Montreal. Legault should be doing everything he can to make it easy for NASCAR and NCTS, instead of playing games with them. This sort of nonsense CAN come back to haunt him. The way things are (not)going with ChampCar, there may be an opening in Toronto in the next year or two.
