Whatever was going on under the hood of Michael Waltrip's car, it must have been pretty bad. Bad enough the Toyota looks set to throw him under the bus.
It goes without saying that Toyota wasn't looking for this kind of publicity when it made the plunge into Cup racing.
ESPN's story contains the following:
"Lee White, the senior vice president for Toyota Racing Development that is making its Nextel Cup debut at Daytona, said he also planned to meet with Waltrip.
"I wouldn't call it a setback, but it's disappointing for anyone that we partner with to have this happen in some form or fashion," he said. "We will talk with them to see where we need to go for the future."
White said TRD has been working with NASCAR on the situation.
"I can honestly tell you from an ethics standpoint and integrity, along with character and honesty, those things are paramount in our company," he said. "We hold ourselves to a high standard and we hold our teams to high standards. We hope we've picked the right ones."

word in the garage is Michael was told to pack his stuff and leave
Word in the garage is that Mikey was wearing a dress...
See how easy it is to make stuff up?
I didn't know those rice burning Toys cooked with sterno...
In all reality, it sucks to be Mikey at this point, all the pressure of being the frontrunner with Toyotam and now this, I need the rest of the story first.....
NASCAR always has to pick on the new guy in the sport. Being that Waltrip is Toyota's "Poster Boy", he should have known that this was a possibility.
Wow Jimmy Spencer is mad....when they came away from the press confrence Kenny sypmathised with Mikey and Jimmy said to be ashamed and he has given the sport a black eye(kind like he did Kurt Busch) and Toyota a black eye, and that he feels the penelty was not harsh enough.
I'm very curious to what they did find. As jet fuel in the intake would not help the car be faster. Do to the octane rating on jet fuel is about 40 and what they race with is 116. Big loss in power if jet fuel was an added.
Well its something thats never been tried before from what they said.
I smell Nitrous Oxide lol
When they confiscate the car and they don't give a solid number on how long you're gone, they don't know how bad you're cheating, but they're looking for future ways to detect it.
Should be intresting when the s*it hits the fan on this one.
Looks like TRD Toyota Nascar is run just as well and their F1 counterparts (lots of money, little positive to show for it)
With Waltrip possibly on the outs, would that leave Allmendinger as the top guy? :)
Serves him right!
This is what he gets for being a part of changing nascar for the worse. Toyota, and nascar, are helping put the nails in the coffins of the American auto makers.
Uhhhh, I think Americans are helping to put the nails in the coffins of the American car manufacturers...not the Japanese
