LONDON, ON (May 22, 2005) – Kerry Micks from Mount Albert, Ontario, driving the PowerWater 2005 Micks Motorsports Ford Taurus, finished 24th in the opening round of the 2005 CASCAR Super Series season in Sunday’s Mopar 250 at Delaware Speedway at London, Ontario.
“The PowerWater Ford was awesome today, we were able to charge to the front after starting third and were leading by lap 16,” said a disappointed Micks after the race. “We stayed up front until we broke an oil pump at lap 38,” he added. “The rest of the day was spent on testing that will no doubt help us in the races to come gain back those valuable points.”
Ron Beauchamp Jr., won the 250-lap event on the Delaware half-mile oval, with Dave Whitlock second and Mark Dilley third.
“In some ways it was a disappointing day,” Micks went on to say. “But perhaps we got our bad luck behind us at the first race of the year.”
The next event on the CASCAR Super Series is scheduled for Autodrome St. Eustache June 4 in St. Eustache, Quebec.
A long-established and popular competitor, Kerry Micks has earned the title “The Iron Man” in CASCAR Super Series competition.
Micks, from Mount Albert, Ontario, drives the PowerWater Micks Motorsports #02 Ford Taurus, and finished the 2004 CASCAR Super Series Championship in fifth position. Micks Motorsports had nine top-three podium finishes from a total of 12 CASCAR Super Series races in 2004, including a win at the last race of the season at Kawartha Speedway.

CASCAR: Lapcevich brothers Delaware report

LONDON, ON (May 22, 2005) – Team Fastline drivers Jim and Jeff Lapcevich finished sixth and ninth in their Team Fastline/Tim Hortons/EMCEA Transport Chevrolet Monte Carlos in Sunday’s Mopar 250 at Delaware Speedway at London. Ontario. It was the opening round of the 2005 CASCAR Super Series season.
“The car was strong all day, we just took our time and tried to stay out of the wrecks,” stated Jim Lapcevich after the race. “It’s been a while since I’ve been this high in the points,” he laughed. “We plan on staying there, we always work hard and I hope this is our year.”
Ron Beauchamp Jr. won the 250-lap event on the Delaware half-mile oval, with Dave Whitlock second and Mark Dilley third.
“It’s always a lot of fun racing when you have a strong car and are able to work you way through the field,” explained Jeff Lapcevich. “I got mixed up in some carnage today, but my goal is to take a shot at the championship and this is a good start to the season.”
Jeff Lapcevich brings a wealth of driving experience to his role as pilot of the number 23 CASCAR Super Series 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. For over a decade, this road racing specialist has run in some of North America's most competitive racing series and his skill as a road course driver gives him a valuable edge in the CASCAR Super Series where many of the major events are road races.
In 2004, Lapcevich continued to dominate the CASCAR Super Series competition at road courses by winning three events, including the Molson Indy Toronto and Vancouver for the second consecutive season a well as the challenging Mosport Road Course event.
Along with several top-ten finishes including the victories, Jeff had his best year to date in the series, finishing fourth in the CASCAR championship point standings.

CASCAR: Don Thomson Jr. Opens ‘Drive for Five’ Campaign with a Fourth
LONDON, ON – The ‘Drive for Five’ started last weekend at Delaware Speedway Park on Victoria Day weekend for the Mopar 250, as Don Thomson Jr., and his Home Hardware Chevrolet were looking for his fifth CASCAR Super Series National championship in a row.
The weekend started with an afternoon practice session and Thomson was among the fastest on the speedchart, turning the third fastest time, with a lap of 19.544 seconds.
The first competitive laps of the weekend were turned shortly after practice with the time trial session. In 2004 Thomson set a CASCAR record as he claimed the pole eight times in 12 events, and Saturday he picked up where he left off. Thomson ripped off a lap of 19.534 seconds at just over 92 mph.
He claimed the top spot by a mere .013 seconds over David Whitlock. Thomson was thrilled with the team’s performance on Saturday, explaining, “The day went smooth, and the results were as good as could have been expected. The car was right where we needed it to be off the trailer, and I turned in a good lap.”
Thomson brought the field to the green for Sunday’s feature and immediately raced his way to the front. “That was the plan was to lead a lap early.” Kerry Micks was applying a tremendous amount of pressure to Thomson, before Donnie let him go. “There was no sense taking a chance, so I fell back a few spots and started to ride it out.”
Thomson would stay in the top-three for the first 86 laps, before heading to pit road. “Our car was good early on, but someone had dropped some oil on the track and I thought I had a tire going down, so we decided to make our two-tire pit stop then.”
After taking right side tires and fuel, Thomson returned to action in eighth and immediately started to pick his way though the field again, climbing into the top-five on lap 137. Thomson got as high as second, chasing only Ron Beauchamp Jr. when a lap 173 yellow gave him another chance to visit pit road.
The Fitzpatrick Motorsports Team ripped off another tremendous stop and got Don out in fourth position with a new right rear tire for the final run to the finish. “We were in good shape. We had a fresh right rear, and a decent right front and we had track position.
Thomson quickly jumped to third and was chasing just Mark Dilley, and Beauchamp with 50 laps to go. Whitlock would re-appear at the front of the pack and pass both Thomson, and Dilley, shuffling the Home Hardware machine back to fourth, but despite having a ton of laps to get by Dilley, Thomson would have to settle for a fourth-place finish.
“We battled with Dilley for the last 75 laps, and I just couldn’t get him. We had an awesome race, and it was a lot of fun doing battle with him. This is still a tremendous start to the year. Anytime we leave a track with a top-five, we’re pleased, because you can’t win them all. I’m also proud of my teammates. Young J.R. [Fitzpatrick}, John [Fitzpatrick], and I all finished on the lead lap and in the top-ten, so it was a great day all around for Fitzpatrick Motorsports.”
Beauchamp captured his first feature win since 1998, beating Whitlock to the line by just over a second. He took the lead from Whitlock on lap 144, and Dave had fresher tires making his final charge, but ran out of time.
The next event for Thomson will be Saturday June, 4 just outside of Montreal at Autodrome Ste. Eustache for the Whelen 200. “I’m excited about getting back to Ste. Eustache this year. The last time we were there in 2003 it wasn’t a real good trip, as our hauler was stolen, but we’ve always run well there, and I have a couple of victories there.”

LONDON, ON - Sunday marked the beginning of a new CASCAR Super Series season and the first appearance of the new Mopar Parts Dodge Charger for Ron Beauchamp Jr. in race competition with the traditional season opener; the Mopar 250 at Delaware Speedway. It was an afternoon to remember!
The new car was debuted during qualifying runs and Ron Jr. turned in a strong showing with the fifth quickest time. However following post race inspection the team was ordered to the back of the field after the front end of the car was declared to be too low. Never the less the team prepared their Mopar powered racecar for competition. “The car has been great right from the first time we put it on the track” stated the confident driver. “We’ll have something for them”.
As the race began Beauchamp knew he would have to steer clear of any trouble to have a car capable of getting to the front. On lap 3 he avoided contact with another car and on lap 23 during a major incident he incurred only minor cosmetic damage. “Those were the breaks we needed” commented Ron Beauchamp Sr. “I then had to calm down Ron Jr. a bit, he was a little anxious because he knew we had an excellent car.
Ron Beauchamp began to move the Mopar Parts Dodge up through the field. After a pit stop on lap 105 he began charging for the front. By lap 120 he was third, on lap 132 he claimed second and then took the lead of the race on lap 144. This is when the Beauchamp prepared Mopar power was best demonstrated, as he was able to pull out a huge lead over the next car. While a couple of late race caution flags bunched the field, Ron Beauchamp Jr. and the Mopar Parts Dodge never relinquish the lead, and the Windsor driver claimed his first victory in seven years, and the first for the 2005 Dodge Charger in CASCAR Super Series competition.
“What an unbelievable weekend” smiled the driver afterwards. “I’m so happy to have this first victory in the new Charger. Mopar parts have been so supportive of our racing program it’s a great feeling”. Asked afterwards if it felt good to have the monkey off his back regarding the winning drought and Ron Jr. exclaimed “yes, and I hope I gave it to somebody else”.
In addition to the race victory, Ron Beauchamp and the Mopar Parts Charger claimed the $1,500 cash award for the fastest lap of the race. It was also an all Dodge podium with Dave Whitlock taking second, and Mark Dilley rounding out the top three.

SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD: Pro Line 100 postponed by rain
HALIFAX, NS - Heavy rain over the Halifax area forced the postponement of Sunday's season opener at Scotia Speedworld.
The PRO—LINE 100 has ben rescheduled for next Saturday, May 28 at 4 pm. The entire show scheduled from May 22 will be run May 28 including races for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour, Sportsman Super Series and Legends Tour.
The Scotia Speedworld Budweiser Weekly Racing 2005 season debuts Friday night, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. - making next weekend a double-header weekend.
CASCAR: Dave Jacombs' Delaware report

The weekend started off strong with Jacombs practicing in the top ten on Saturday. After time trials were completed the #88 Lou’s BBQ/FAG Automotive/CPS Flooring Taurus was posted twelfth quickest.
Sunday would see thirty cars take the green flag for the start of the Mopar 250. The #88 Taurus of Jacombs quickly moved up to the top ten where he ran consistently until the first caution flag flew at lap eighty. Dave pitted for tires and fuel and returned to the track 13th.
He steadily moved back into the top ten again. During a long green flag run, leader Ron Beauchamp Jr. in the #60 Mopar Dodge was setting a torrid pace and lapped the #88 Taurus of Jacombs. Two laps later the caution flew so Jacombs ducked into the pits for more changes.
An infraction resulted on pit road and they were assessed a stop and go penalty when the race went back to green thus losing another lap. The Lou’s BBQ Taurus finished up the day two laps down to the leader with a 13th place result. Jacombs commented after the race “This new Taurus was decent today but I know it can be better. The guys in the shop will keep working on the setup and we expect a stronger finish in Quebec.”

CASCAR: Electrical Problems Melt Steckly’s Day
LONDON, ON - With new sponsor ALTRUCK International Truck Centres on board for this Victoria Day Weekend race at Delaware Speedway, Scott Steckly was looking to get off to a good start this season by trying to finish in the top-10. Qualifying for the Mopar 250 was held on Saturday May 21.
Steckly was on of the last drivers to take their 2 laps around the half-mile oval. The Erb Group/ ALTRUCK International Pontiac struggled to a 16th place start in the field of 30. Realizing something was wrong with the car Crew Chief Ken Gropp decided that a change of engines would be the way to get the #22 car to the front on race day. The crew worked late on Saturday night changing the engine. However, CASCAR rules state that if a team makes any changes after qualifying they must start at the very back of the field. Steckly would start in the 28th position on Sunday.
Prior to the race Steckly said that “starting from the back would be a big challenge, to get to the front” but he knew he would be up to the test. The Erb Group/ ALTRUCK International Pontiac narrowly avoided a collision three-laps into the race, when the #60 of Ron Beauchamp Jr. spun #44 of Marv Wilder. Steckly had to drive high up the track to avoid the cars. The Milverton native, Steckly continued to move up the positions and by lap 85; he was up to seventh place.
Twenty laps later the first of Steckly’s problems on the day started. While under caution on lap 105, the Erb Group/ ALTRUCK International Pontiac Grand Prix came to a halt on the back straight. He ended up being stopped on the back for over a lap until the tow-truck came and pushed the #22 car into the pit.
The problem was deemed to be that two wires going to the distributor had melted together and caused the engine to stop. Shortly thereafter, under another caution the problem started up again. This time an extended stop on pit road was needed to fix the same problem that had happened before.
The Erb Group/ ALTRUCK International pit crew pulled the original two wires replaced them with two new ones and with that the problem was fixed. However, by the time Scott Steckly returned to the race he was 18 laps down to the leader. Scott had to ride out the final 100 laps, unable to make many real significant passes for position. Steckly ended up finishing in 22nd position. Following the race Steckly said “one race doesn’t determine the season, but we know that we are going to need some consistently high finishes to have a chance of winning the championship”.
Steckly will look get on a roll in 2 weeks when the CASCAR Super Series travels to St. Eustache, Quebec for the Whelen Engineering 200 on June 4th. Steckly’s last visit to St. Eustache resulted in a 2nd place finish. The 22 Racing team is looking forward to a strong finish at a track Steckly has done well at. The #22 Pontiac will be making a show appearance at Metro International St. Laurent on Friday, June 3rd. Metro International St. Laurent is the sponsoring International dealer for the St. Eustache race. Steckly was on of the last drivers to take their 2 laps around the half-mile oval. The Erb Group/ ALTRUCK International Pontiac struggled to a 16th place start in the field of 30. Realizing something was wrong with the car Crew Chief Ken Gropp decided that a change of engines would be the way to get the #22 car to the front on race day. The crew worked late on Saturday night changing the engine. However, CASCAR rules state that if a team makes any changes after qualifying they must start at the very back of the field. Steckly would start in the 28th position on Sunday.
Prior to the race Steckly said that “starting from the back would be a big challenge, to get to the front” but he knew he would be up to the test. CASCAR: MID AMERICA MOTORSPORTS DRIVERS THE INNOCENT VICTIMS OF OTHERS' PROBLEMS
May 24, 2005. The first race of the year makes the end of a busy off-season spent; securing sponsors, preparing cars and of course a little on track testing. The Mid America team with #42 Sean Stafford in the LE Walker transport Chevrolet and Mark Swain in the GE Nighthawk Chevrolet were anxious to put down some laps in round one of the CASCAR Super Series at Delaware speedway this past weekend.
Both drivers put in qualifying laps during Saturday time trials; both were looking for more. Sean secured the LE Walker Chevy the 15th starting spot on the grid, while Mark was only able to put up 28th best time in the GE Nighthawk Chevrolet.
The team hoped for smooth running in the early stages so they’d be able to gain positions but that wasn’t the case. Early overheating problems forced Sean and the LE Walker Chevy to the pits for an unscheduled stop, and Mark had the GE Nighthawk Chevy collected in an early accident involving other cars, and was later hit from behind in another incident.
It appeared things might be settling down with both Sean & Mark trying to collect the best possible finish when yet another problem of someone else’s making affected both cars. The #41 car bumped the Sean in the LE Walker Chevrolet and then gathered up Mark and the #20 GE Nighthawk Chevrolet. The #41 was subsequently penalized for his actions but the damage was done. With all the difficulties Sean Stafford still managed a 15th place finish and Mark was 20th.
“It’s a shame we had somebody plow into us because once the overheating problem was solved the LE Walker car was pretty solid” claimed Sean Stafford after the race. Mark Swain stated that “it was like the GE Nighthawk logo was a target on the car, if there was an accident out there we got taken out with it. I’m glad we finished though”
Dave Didero the President of Mid America Motorsports assessed afterward that “we’ve got plenty of work to do on both these race cars, luckily a good part of it is body work. There’s no doubt we’ll be ready to go full throttle at the round in St. Eustache”.
The CASCAR Super Series competes at historic tracks like Delaware Speedway, Cayuga Speedway, Mosport International Raceway and also on the temporary street circuit at the Toronto Molson Indy. CASCAR: MOPAR 250 Summary & Results
Beauchamp goes back-to-front to win the MOPAR 250 CASCAR Super Series opener at Delaware Speedway
LONDON, ON – On Sunday afternoon at Delaware Speedway, Ron Beauchamp Jr. ended a winless streak that dated back to June 21, 1998 when he won the MOPAR 250 CASCAR Super Series season-opener. And he did it in style. The #60 MOPAR Parts / Exide Dodge Charger driver was forced to start last in the 30-car field after the nose of his car was judged to be ‘too low’ following Saturday’s time trials.
Undeterred by the setback, Beauchamp quickly started to work his way forward after the start of the 250-lap race at the half-mile oval. By the time he pitted at lap 100, the Windsor, ON driver had charged to sixth-place. At the halfway point of the race, Beauchamp was running fourth and looking strong. The winning move came on lap 144 when Beauchamp powered underneath race leader Dave Whitlock (Avenue Motor Works Dodge Charger) on the front straight.
After making the pass, Beauchamp had the field covered the rest of the way. At one point, he built a massive 10-second lead over his nearest rival. And even though caution flags late in the race erased his big lead, the former Super Series East champ came home more than a second in front of Whitlock.
“Our last win was a long time ago, so this is really big,” said Beauchamp, in victory lane. “I knew we had a good car, but I was worried about wrecks with us being so far back for the start. But the car was so good that I knew if I was patient we had a chance. The only trouble I had all day was on restarts for a few laps, but then it just took off.”
The final podium position went to Mark Dilley (Dodge / Mobil1, Exide / Power Water Dodge Charger), Whitlock’s teammate at Whitlock Motorsports.
The top three finishers all drove the new Dodge Charger, which was made its CASCAR Super Series debut at Delaware, just days after being introduced at CASCAR’s Media Day. All in all, it was a dream finish for the MOPAR / Dodge contingent.
Fourth-place went to reigning Super Series National champ Don Thomson Jr. The Home Hardware Chevy driver started on the pole and ran second for most of the first-half of the race, but wasn’t in contention for the win after that point. Sophomore driver J.R. Fitzpatrick was fifth in the Cambridge Rigging Chevrolet. Defending MOPAR 250 race winner Peter Gibbons fought handling troubles on his Canadian Tire Chevy and came home eighth.
Matty Tsoumaris was the top finishing rookie driver. The John’s Unique Auto Chevy racer, who hails from Toronto, recorded a 16th-place result.
The MOPAR 250 was slowed by seven cautions for a total of 54 laps. The next CASCAR Super Series race is slated for June 4 at Montreal’s Autodrome St-Eustache.

SHOULDICE ALSTAR: Shaw wins opener at Sauble Speedway
SAUBLE BEACH, ON – Jason Shaw made history on Saturday night at Sauble Speedway when he won the first race of the 2005 Shouldice ALSTAR Late Model Series season. With the victory, the Guelph, ON racer collected his ninth career ALSTAR Series win, which moved him into solo possession of the all-time ALSTAR ‘wins’ record. Shaw came into the event tied (at eight) with three-time series champ ‘Stompin’ Tom Walters.
Shaw’s #82 Spira Fire Protection Ford Mustang lined up eighth in the field of 22 who took the green flag for the 75-lap feature event; the 75th race in ALSTAR history. The ’03 series champ bided his time while the early leaders battled for the top spot.
On lap 34, race polesitter Dan Delisle and runner-up Kirk Hooker were involved in a simultaneous spin, after contact, which sent them to the back of the pack. The incident handed the top position to Shaw, who led the rest of the way to the checkered flag.
“My car needed about three laps to get going, but after that it was pretty fast,” said Shaw, in victory lane. Throughout the remainder of the race, Shaw led comfortably through traffic while Craig Zurbrigg of Listowel, ON held second until the late-going, when he fell several positions. At the finish, Newmarket, ON racer Derrick Tiemersma survived to take second place, in spite of being involved in an earlier incident that threatened to cut down a tire on his Wayfreight Chevrolet.
The final podium spot went to rookie Kyle Donaldson, in his first-ever ALSTAR Series race. The Custom Engine Ford driver, who hails from Queensville, ON, attributed his solid finish to “keeping his nose clean.”
Reigning Shouldice ALSTAR Series champ Robbie Thompson led early in the race but suffered a flat tire on his SMP / Logel’s Chevy. He finished a lap down. “I guess we lost the lucky horsehoe we had last year; we got a flat tire,” commented the Southampton, ON resident.

CASCAR: #60 falls to the back

CASCAR Super Series dominator wins the pole for Sunday’s MOPAR 250 at Delaware Speedway
LONDON, ON – Last Tuesday during CASCAR’s annual Media Day get together, Don Thomson Jr.’s Super Series rivals were confident they could keep the four-time National champion from succeeding in his ‘drive for five’. If someone is to succeed at that task, he or she will have to do better than they did today.
During Saturday afternoon’s time trial qualifying session for Sunday’s season-opening MOPAR 250 CASCAR Super Series race at Delaware Speedway, Thomson made it clear that knocking him off the top of the hill won’t be an easy feat.
The Hamilton, ON resident won eight poles in 2004 en route to his fourth-consecutive Super Series crown. Today, the Home Hardware Chevy driver secured the inside of the front row for tomorrow’s 250-lap race on the strength of a 19.534-second lap around the Delaware half-mile oval.
Dave Whitlock was second-fastest of the 30 drivers who participated in time trials. The Wyoming, ON driver guided his Avenue Motor Works / NMT Dodge Charger around his ‘hometrack’ in 19.547 seconds. Power Water Ford driver Kerry Micks, of Mt. Albert, ON, was third quickest at 19.562 seconds.
Peter Gibbons is the defending winner of the MOPAR 250. The Canadian Tire racer won both Super Series events at Delaware Speedway in 2004. The Stouffville, ON native will line up eighth in the field of 30 for tomorrow’s race.
Several rookies qualified for the race, including Tara MacLeod, Matty Tsoumaris and Chad McGlynn. The MOPAR 250 is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

CASCAR: Thomson earns MOPAR 250 Pole
NEWS FLASH: Don Thomson Jr. won the pole for Sunday's season-opening MOPAR 250 at Delaware Speedway with a lap time of 19.534 seconds around the 1/2-mile oval. Thomson won eight poles last season.The rest of the top five.... Dave Whitlock, Kerry Micks, John Fitzpatrick, Pete Shepherd Jr.30 cars participated in time trials.Full qualifying results and grid to follow shortly.

SOS:Styres wins at Ohsweken
I went to Ohsweken Speedway last night for the SOS race. What a great show! For someone who is accustomed to heavy stock cars on pavement most of the time, these machines are spectacular to watch.
Glenn Styres won the main event. I just received the full agate from Greg Calnan (SOS Insider). Styres won't have long to savour his victory. The SOS are back in action on Sunday night at Humberstone.
Glenn Styres grabbed the first SOS checkered flag of the 2005 season with his win Friday night at Ohsweken. Now the SOS turns its attention to the tight bullring at the Humberstone Speedway. Racing starts at 6:30 pm in Port Colborne this Sunday night.

NASCAR SPEEDPARK AT VAUGHAN MILLS HOSTS GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION
NASCAR’s Elliott Sadler and the Stars of CASCAR Join NASCAR SpeedPark’s Celebration!
TORONTO – MAY 20, 2005 – NASCAR SpeedPark at Vaughan Mills will hosts its Grand Opening Celebration from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, with a personal appearance by NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler and driver appearances with some of the stars of CASCAR. The celebration will also include a free concert, appearances by NASCAR SpeedPark mascot, roving entertainers, draws for free giveaways and special ride, retail and food prices.
One of the highlights of the Grand Opening Celebration will be an appearance by Elliott Sadler, driver of the #38 M&M’s car and one of NASCAR SpeedPark’s official spokesmen. Sadler will be signing autographs and greeting fans from 6:30-7:30 p.m. during the Grand Opening Celebration. There will also be a select number of drivers and show cars from CASCAR who will be greeting fans from 4-9 p.m.
Another exciting element of NASCAR SpeedPark’s celebration are two free concerts in the park by “Arden and the Tourists” at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Fans can also enjoy appearances by the official NASCAR SpeedPark mascot “Sparkie the Sparkplug” throughout the day along with free face-painting and balloon artistry for the kids from 4-9 p.m.
In addition to entertainment, the park will be offering a special $30 All Day Ride Pass Package with $5.00 of each package sold benefiting the United Way of York Region. NASCAR SpeedPark will also have special prices on NASCAR and NASCAR SpeedPark merchandise and there will be food specials at NASCAR SpeedPark’s Pit Stop Grille. Draws will be held all day for great prizes including a NASCAR SpeedPark Annual Credential, NASCAR SpeedPark All Day Passes, NASCAR driver-autographed items and more.
