This is nothing new. When Winston sposored Cup racing, no other tobacco companies were allowed to sponsor cars. In the old days in the Players Series, other tobacco sponsorships were not allowed. Although they did make an exeption for Gitanes at the GP of Trois Rivieres because it brought in big name French drivers and it was not a major player in the Quebec smokes market.
Will this have implications for the NCTS? Rona or Home Depot sponsorship probably would not be allowed. Home Hardware is probably grandfathered in. What happens if it tries to expand its sponsorship to two cars, maybe adding JR Fitzpatrick's car? That is when it might get interesting.
Does anyone know if JR has a new sponsor yet?
When it was Winston Cup....I do remember Skoal as a sponsor of a car.
So was Copenhagen but they are chewing tobacco not cigarettes, which is what Winston is. Sponsorships by other cigarette companies were not allowed in Winston Cup.
