Oakville, On., August 8, 2011 – Stanley® has made a guaranteed donation of $100,000 to Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ on behalf of Stanley® and Stanley-sponsored Richard Petty Motorsports driver Marcos Ambrose, who is competing in the 2011 Nationwide Series race in Montreal on August 20th.
Stanley’s involvement with the program is now in its second year, and includes participation in annual product promotions which will help support the Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ program.
"Not only am I excited to race in Montreal in front of all the Canadian fans, but I am very happy to be racing for a worthy cause such as the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program where Stanley will donate $100,000 on our behalf” said Ambrose. “If we can help kids achieve their goals in sports programs across Canada with support from great companies such as Stanley & Canadian Tire, that is a great accomplishment"
“Stanley is pleased to be involved with Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ for this second year. We believe that by helping kids in financial need take part in community-based organized sport and recreation programs, is important way to help keep Canadian kids active, not only for the health benefits, but also in the development of life-skills, self-esteem and confidence.” says Jeff Crews, President of Stanley Black &Decker Canada, CDIY Group
Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ is a community-based charitable program that helps kids aged four to 18 participate in organized sport and recreation activities such as hockey, soccer, dance and swimming.
Canadian Tire’s purpose in establishing Jumpstart was the idea that physical activity gives a lot more to kids than just rosy cheeks and a healthy weight. It also helps kids build self-esteem, social skills, concentration and character as well as helping them learn how to work together, how to share, and how to lead.
“When it comes to organized sport and recreation programs, how much children get to play is unfortunately often limited by how much their parents can afford. In fact, one in three Canadian families cannot afford to enroll their children in organized sports and recreation,” says Dan Thompson, President of Canadian Tire Jumpstart™. “Canadian Tire Jumpstart® believes that by providing kids with the chance to play today gives them a jumpstart on their future. We are proud Stanley also recognizes the value of sport and recreation programs and has joined our team of partners.”
Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ is a national program that delivers support to children in financial need through a network of local chapters made up of community leaders committed to helping kids get active, such as Parks and Recreation Canada, the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Canada, and the YMCA. The program helps cover the cost of registration, equipment and/or transportation.
To date, there are 310 Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ chapters in communities across the country. Since the program’s launch in February 2005, Canadian Tire Jumpstart™ has helped give more than 330,000 kids in financial need the chance to play.
