Kawartha Speedway: Summer Sizzler set for July 8

FRASERVILLE, ON - After a break in the schedule for Canada Day, one of the biggest events of the year takes the spotlight when Kawartha Speedway’s 2011 calendar picks-up again Friday, July 8th.  The 8th Annual Summer Sizzler for the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models will be the featured attraction.  The 150 lap main event – run in three 50 lap segments – draws a stellar field of competitors and puts a cheque for $3,000.00 into the bank account of the overall winner.

Three events into the Fraserville, Ontario oval’s second decade of racing, the headline division has delighted fans with exciting, edge of your seat fender-to-fender action.  So far this year, 3 different drivers have visited victory lane.  On opening night, Kyle Donaldson claimed his first late model checkered flag since 2006.  In the 100 lapper on June 17th, it was Bryan Mercer’s turn to win his first since 2004 and the division’s all-time victory leader Dan McHattie added another notch to his belt, taking a trip to the winner’s circle Friday, June 24th.  Half dozen different drivers have recorded at least 1 top 5 main event finish in the highly competitive late model field.

With 150 laps to work with – spread over 3 segments – everyone in the field has a chance to find their way to victory lane.  Drivers and teams will get the opportunity to make changes to their equipment between each portion of the race.  Veteran runner Vic Parsons of Hawkstone, Ontario who began his career at Pinecrest Speedway in 1960 and drove in what is now the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series earlier in his career, likes the opportunity to get the most out of his #1 JLS Value Plus Consulting/Ontario Steel Sales/South Barrie Collision Centre Chevrolet during the duration of the show.  Currently 13th in points, Parsons says he’ll show-up with a positive attitude and a machine he thinks will have a chance to win the race.

“We haven’t had a great start to the season, but a win in the Summer Sizzler can be the perfect prescription to turn things around,” said Parsons.  “I’ve been running long enough and built-up some extensive notes on what the car will do at Kawartha to know we can be a factor.  Our car won’t be perfect, but it’s not likely there will be any ‘perfect’ cars in a 150 lap race.  We’ll get it as close as we can and then hope that the racing Gods smile on us and provide a few lucky breaks.  That’s about all anyone can ask for.”

The 8th Annual Summer Sizzler – Friday, July 8th – is a marquee event on Kawartha Speedway’s 2011 schedule and a huge crowd is expected.  Pit gates open at 3:00, with rotating on-track practice sessions beginning when the spectator areas open at 5:00.  As always, the night’s first green flag waves at 7:00 sharp.  Fans can catch-up with the latest news and see the complete season’s schedule at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.
