Summer is Ready to Sizzle at Kawartha Speedway

FRASERVILLE, ON - It’s no big secret.  If you offer a short track stock car driver a big cheque at the end of the night, they’ll race you for it.  Kawartha Speedway fans will be treated to the season’s hottest show with the 7th annual Summer Sizzler – Friday, July 9th.  The 150 lap show for the track’s NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models and special guests will be run in a trio of 50 lap segments and pay a hefty $3000.00 to the overall winner.

2007 track champion Larry Jackson has to be considered an early favourite heading into the showcase start.  After taking a brief hiatus, the Oakville, Ontario veteran is back in action for 2010.  Following a pair of starts in 2009, the professional firefighter has combined forces with Mississauga’s Bruce Rankin for a renewed assault on Kawartha’s headline division.

“I was a bit off my game for the first few weeks,” said Jackson with a smile.  “It was tough to find my marks on the track and to get into my usual rhythm out there.  I knew I hadn’t forgotten how to drive, so I just needed to settle-down a bit and stop thinking about things too much.  That’s when things started to fall into place the way I’m used to having them.”

After 3 events on the track’s 10th Anniversary schedule, Jackson’s #84J sits second in the late model standings, 5 behind Dan McHattie – but just 3 markers ahead of opening night winner Chris Morrow.  The top 10 runners in the division are separated by just 73 heading into the big event.

To make things interesting for the fans and drivers alike, the show will be run with a heads-up format – meaning that the winner of the first qualifying heat will earn the inside front-row starting spot for the first 50 lapper.  From there, each segment will have a complete inversion and use a point system similar to golf.  The segments will pay points based on finishing positions – with the winner earning 1 point, the runner-up 2, third place 3 points and so on through the field.  The driver with the lowest overall point total will be declared the winner.

To handle the extra racing expected, the track will open at 2:00 with the first green flag at 6:00 Friday, July 9th.  The Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks and Better Carpet Thunder Cars will also be part of the show.  Fans can get all the Summer Sizzler details at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

Kawartha regulars will also be pleased to know that the track’s new permanent grandstands will be in place starting this weekend.

All of our major markets are now gearing up for retail sales of the completely redesigned and reengineered Sportage CUV, which will certainly add to our momentum and help continue strong sales for the brand in the second half of the year.”

PIERRE BOURQUE RACING ARCA EVENT AT IOWA

Ottawa, ON. (July 6, 2010) Pierre Bourque has an opening this weekend from his duties in the Canadian NASCAR season. So the veteran driver will be keeping busy at Iowa Speedway in the ARCA Racing series.

Bourque will jump behind the wheel of the ESR Toyota Camry for the reigning series champion owners Eddie Sharp Racing this Saturday July 10th in the Prairie Meadow 200 at Iowa Speedway.

This is not the first visit to Iowa Speedway to participate in the ARCA Racing series for the talented driver. In 2008 Pierre Bourque not only participated in the event but put on quite a driving exhibition.

Bourque was relegated to the back of the field due a rain-out of qualifying. He would start the feature event from last place, 41st on the grid and put on a memorable display. “We passed 25 cars during the race” said the enthusiastic driver. “The car was great to drive and coming home 16th was a terrific result” he added.

In the fall of last year Bourque participated in the Camping World Truck series event for Andy Hillenburg at Iowa Speedway. “We were doing well but unfortunately had a mechanical issue that ended our day early or we had a good run going” stated Bourque.

The return to ARCA Racing and to Iowa Speedway is a highly-anticipated one for Bourque. “I’m really looking forward to seeing all my friends in the ARCA series again” said Bourque. “And Iowa race fans are absolutely fantastic, their support is truly inspiring.

Iowa Speedway is also a venue where Bourque really enjoys his time on the track. “I just love this place” stated the driver. “I really enjoy the track layout with its impressive banking in the corners. It makes for great racing and I can’t wait to get going this weekend” he added.

This Saturday’s schedule of events at Iowa Speedway begins with practice at 10AM local time followed by qualifying at 5:15PM and the green flag waves on the 200 lap feature race at 8PM. Race fans can watch the Prairie Meadow 200 live beginning at 9PM Eastern on SPEED. For more information about Pierre Bourque, go to http://www.pierrebourque.net/ and follow him on twitter at www.twitter.com/pierrebourque

DAGGETT DOUBLES UP AT SOUTH BUXTON

By Tommy Goudge (July 3, 2010) – Dustin Daggett’s weekend in Canada couldn’t have gone any better. Daggett won the 25 lap ASCS Sprints on Dirt feature on Saturday night at South Buxton Raceway after taking the lead from Gregg Dalman with less than 10 laps to go. It was the Portland, Michigan driver’s second consecutive victory, as he claimed the win at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday.

Dalman and Justin Martin started on the front row of the feature, and Dalman quickly took command out front. The first caution flag flew before five laps were in the books, as Mitchell Brown spun to a stop in turn four after contact with Gavin Hunyady. Darren Long dropped out of the race during the caution period, forfeiting his spot in the top three.

Dalman, Daggett, and Martin broke away from the field when the green came back out, but only a handful of laps were completed before Dain Naida brought out the caution on lap eight. Naida was done for the night with broken parts in the front end.

Dalman continued to hold the lead as the race went green for a longer period, but Daggett was making up ground in the outside groove. Daggett was patient and made the winning move on the outside in turn 4 on lap 17.

One final caution for debris with 3 laps left gave the rest of the field on last shot, but Daggett was not to be denied. Dalman finished second, followed by Martin, Grubaugh, and Ben Rutan. Heat races were claimed by Kyle Patrick and Rutan.

OHSWEKEN: DUSTIN DAGGETT CASHES IN AT THE NORTHERN SUMMER NATIONALS

by Tommy Goudge (July 2, 2010) - Dustin Daggett and his crew brought a brand new car to Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night in search of the $3,000 Northern Summer Nationals winner's cheque. When the dust settled, Daggett was indeed standing in Engine Pro Racing victory lane after winning both his heat race and qualifying race, and leading every lap of the twenty-five lap feature. Devin Habiuk and Abel Castelein repeated as winners of the ESSO Thunder Stocks and ESSO Mini Stocks respectively, while Adam Reidel and Karl Sault got the twin Bomber feature wins.

"NORTHERN SUMMER NATIONALS" SPRINT CARS
Dustin Daggett and Glenn Styres started the twenty-five lap feature on the front row, and Daggett was on a mission right from the beginning. Tom Huppunen moved up from fifth to second on the first lap, and held the runner-up spot behind Daggett for the first ten laps until the caution flew for Kyle Moffit's spin in turn two.

The green flag came back out with five lapped machines between leader Daggett and the rest of the field. Glenn Styres moved back to second after falling to fourth behind Ryan Grubaugh earlier in the race, while Huppunen was starting to have problems under the hood of his #12c.

Daggett was out front by a substantial margin as the race wound down to its conclusion, while the rest of the top ten spots were up for grabs. Only five laps were left to complete when twenty-third starter Bryan Howland made it into the top ten. Howland was up to seventh when the caution and then red flew for Moffit in turn four after contact with Daggett. Moffit emerged from his damaged machine uninjured, but was done for the night. Tom Huppunen also took the #12c to the pit area, ending his bid for a repeat Summer Nationals triumph.

All eyes were on Daggett, whose right rear tire had made contact with Moffit. Daggett was not to be denied his seventh career feature win at Ohsweken though, and got the win by almost four and a half seconds over Styres, Grubaugh, Dave Dykstra, and Bobby Breen. Hard charger Howland got sixth, followed by Mike Ling, Jared Zimbardi, Dain Naida, and Jim Huppunen.

"I was kind of wondering if that right rear was going to stay up," said Daggett in victory lane. "It did get a little low on that red (flag), and the car was really tight those last couple laps, but it held up long enough."

"I just gotta say thanks to my whole crew," continued Daggett. "This is a brand new car. We put it together last week, and first night out on it, it seems to be a really good one."

The track was much more slick and dry than it has been for other Daggett wins, and he commented on it after the race:

"Last year's Canadian Nationals really made me mad, because we just went backwards in that and the car was junk," said Daggett. "We got a different shock package for here this year, and it seems to be working out really well - the car was fast tonight."

Heat races for the fifty-one car field were claimed by Kyle Moffit, Dain Naida, Glenn Styres, Dustin Daggett, Mike Ling, and Gregg Dalman. Qualifying race wins went to Daggett, Bobby Breen, Kevin Job, and Ryan Grubaugh, while Bryan Howland and Bubba Broderick got B-Main victories.

ESSO THUNDER STOCKS
Ryan Dinning and Ed McNamara started the twenty lap ESSO Thunder Stock feature on the front row, and Dinning quickly opened up a large gap on the field. While Dinning was pulling away out front, the rest of the field was involved in a torrid fight for positions within the top ten, sometimes going three and four wide.

Mike Thorne - back after a hard crash last week - eventually got free of the pack and chased Dinning down. As those two battled for the lead, eleventh starter Devin Habiuk ran both down and drove by them into the lead. Habiuk took off out front leaving Dinning and Thorne to go at it for the runner-up spot, which was eventually claimed by Thorne.

Habiuk got the feature win, followed by Thorne, Dinning, Lee Winger, and Jamie Cox.

"It's fun...I have a blast here," said Habiuk, who is now undefeated in two starts at Ohsweken in 2010. "It's a wide open track. I just stuck it on the bottom and picked off as many guys as I could...My Dad told me the car was fast on the top, so I went to the top and here I am. I didn't think I'd be winning back to back, so this is awesome!"

Heat races for the nineteen car field were claimed by Dinning and Cox.

ESSO MINI STOCKS
Abel Castelein started from the pole again this week in the fifteen lap ESSO Mini Stock feature, with Drew Spencer on the outside. Castelein got the early lead when the green flag dropped, but he couldn't break free of the pack this week.

Mike Evers was the first to move up and challenge Castelein for the top spot, while the rest of the field jostled for position, often four wide. Kevin Hilborn and Trevor Goulding eventually broke free of the pack, and moved by Evers to take their shots at Castelein.

Despite having six laps left on the board when he got into second, Hilborn could do nothing with Castelein this time after missing out on a win by mere inches last week. Castelein cruised to his second feature win in a row, followed by Hilborn, Goulding, Evers, and Steve Hess.

Heat race wins for the twenty-three car field went to Goulding, Hilborn, and Castelein.

BOMBERS
A record twenty-six Bombers signed in for action on Friday night, and were once again split into two groups for feature racing on the infield oval. The first feature found tenth starting Adam Reidel chasing down early leader Jeremy Hughes to get his second win in a row. Hughes settled for second, followed by Kacey Huffman, Jesse McDonald, and Matt Jansen.

The second feature had more good racing, as championship leader Karl Sault sliced his way from eighth to the lead and got the win. John Cote finished second, followed by twelfth starter Lee Hils, Matt Smith, and Chris Rivers.

NEXT WEEK AT OHSWEKEN
Wiseco Piston and Evers Financial present "Mid-Season Championship" night next Friday, July 9. Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprints, ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini Stocks, and Bombers, plus another visit from the Vintage Cars are all part of round seven of Friday Night Thunder. Gates open at 6:00 with racing starting at 7:45!

CCTCC - First outing a success for Jocelyn Fecteau

Mirabel (Quebec), July 5th, 2010. - Jocelyn Fecteau and Media Racing Team started their season last weekend in the Canadian Touring Car Championship when they entered the Grand Prix de Mirabel double header staged at the ICAR complex north of Montreal. Obviously the best venue for the Mont-St-Grégoire racer to take to the track with his Toyota Corolla XRS, a work in progress racing project that will be further developed all season long.

The Grand Prix de Mirabel was the first meet of the Canadian Touring Car Championship to be staged on Quebec turf in 2010. For Media Racing Team, the time had come to race the Corolla XRS : although still using production parts, it translated to lesser performances compared to competitors with real racing elements” explained driver Jocelyn Fecteau. “We spent many hours testing our car on a dyno before we finally decided to tackle real time racing. We thought we would be ready but we must admit the end result on the track is not what we expected. Our team worked pretty hard but it has become obvious that a stock engine cannot be compared to our competition in this series,” he explains.

For the Saturday round, Fecteau took twelfth spot on the starting grid in Touring class. “Our goal was to take the car to the stripe”, added the Media Racing Team owner driver. “ Our XRS had some high-rev hiccups but we wanted as much track time and the chance to score some points, which we did even if we didn’t reach the chequered flag. But, according to the ruling, we score points if we complete more than 70 % of the total distance.”

“With two laps to go and a lot of debris caused by race incidents, a piece dropped by another car found its way in the engine compartment and cut one of the cooling lines. “I decided to pit the car instead of ruining the engine as the temperature raised” he said, “and that sent me to the last row of the starting grid for the second round on Sunday.”

The regs and rules state that the finishing order on the first race of a double header becomes the starting order of the second race. So, Fecteau had to steer his Toyota from 32nd place for round two of the 2010 Grand Prix de Mirabel. He comments: “The car felt a bit better and had a better balance. It gave me a chance to carve my way through the field. The race had to be stopped when cars in Super Touring class got together on the track, I was in 11th place and gaining ground. I’m sure I could have made the Top 10 within a lap or two.”

So, Media Racing Team is off to a good start. “We’re happy to be back racing and each crew member was pretty excited to be in Mirabel”, concluded Fecteau. “Our sponsors were waiting to see the Corolla’s new livery and how it would behave on track. The comments were many and positive. Now, our work is cut out and we will nurse this machine like we did in 2009 when we earned our first podium at the Toronto Grand Prix.”

The 2010 Indy Grand Prix of Toronto is the next round scheduled on the Canadian Touring Car Championship. Media Racing Team will be entered from July 16 to 18.

Participation of Media Racing Team in the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship is largely due to the following sponsors : Occasions Déry / Déry Toyota, Spinelli Lexus Lachine & Pointe Claire, Lexus Gabriel, Lexus Prestige, Lexus Laval, Lexus Ste-Julie, STD Suspension, Pneu Mondial, Intergroupe insurances, Synoptic Tuning, GSR Pneus & Mécanique, En Passant Comptoir Santé, Itex, Auto Cinq, Holiday inn, Role Model Clothing, PA Auto Recyclage, GO Impression, Martin Berger Design, Boom FM and Le Canada Français.

Smooth drive, wild finish for Richard at Rallye Baie des Chaleurs

NEW RICHMOND, Quebec (July 3, 2010) – A spectacular barrel roll while leading the event with just 8 kilometres to go nearly turned reigning Canadian Rally Champion Pat Richard’s “awesome weekend” into an awful outcome, here in the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs, third round of the 2010 Canadian Rally Championship.

But veteran driver Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell didn’t let a little setback like a high speed roll-over keep them from victory, as the pair – with the help of a handful of spectators – rolled their damaged Subaru Impreza WRX STi back on its wheels and coaxed it to the finish to win their first rally of the season.

Four-time Canadian champion Richard, of Squamish, B.C., and Ockwell, of Toronto, had controlled the two-day event from the first stage, building a comfortable lead in their first outing on Yokohama gravel rally tires. The Subaru Rally Team Canada entry amassed more than a minute lead in the first four stages, expanding the margin to two minutes after five stages in the first day alone.

With a comfortable lead, the team used the opportunity to test engine and tire settings as the rest of the field struggled to keep the pace. “It was an awesome weekend,” says Richard, “right up to 8 kilometres from the end.”

Once back on its wheels, Richard coaxed the shattered car across the finish, belching flames and unable to see through the crushed windscreen. The incident evaporated their lead, and Richard and Ockwell finished less than a minute ahead of the second place Subaru of Leonid Urlichich of Thornhill, Ontario, and Chrissie Beavis of San Diego, California. A third Subaru, driven by series points leader Bruno Carré of Laval, Quebec, and Yvan Joyal of Terrebone, Quebec, claimed the final spot on the podium.

“Despite the ending, it was a fantastic event,” says a philosophical Richard. “The car was flawless and I was really impressed with my first experience on the Yokohama ADVAN A035e gravel rally tires. I have great confidence now.”

Richard’s Yokohama team mate Antoine L’Estage, a former winner of the event, struggled to a sixth place finish. L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard, of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, switched their usual Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X for a Subaru borrowed from Urlichich when their car suffered driveline problems just before the rally. Urlichich, in turn, switched to the highly effective Yokohama tires which helped him to a career-best finish in a championship event.

In addition to its sponsorship of Antoine L’Estage/Nathalie Richard and Pat Richard/Allan Ockwell, Yokohama Canada is a supporting sponsor of the Canadian Rally Championship. The Canadian championship has been televised nationally on TSN and RDS since 1993, and is made available on multiple media platforms, including TSN 2, as downloads from iTunes, on-line on Flat Over Crest (www.flatovercrest.com) and to 80 million homes in Europe on MotorsTV.

Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. markets and distributes a full line of tires for high performance, passenger car, light truck, and commercial truck applications, as well as off-the-road tires for mining, forestry and construction applications. It maintains distribution centres across Canada to serve more than 700 independent tire dealers and more than 2,000 retail locations.

Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints: Zemken's Hot Streak Continues, Takes Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint A-Main at Utica-Rome

VERNON, NY – For the second night in a row, Jessica Zemken, of Sprakers, N.Y., had luck on her side. The driver of the Tony Stewart Racing No. 14 Maxim sat second with four laps to go. On the final restart of the race Chuck Hebing was leading when he had brake problems handing the lead to Zemken. She held off Justin Barger in the closing laps to score her second win of the weekend in the $2,000 to win DTD Motorsports Media Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint A-Main event at the Utica-Rome Speedway.

“Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good,” joked Zemken after the win. “I would have liked to race him (Hebing) for the win but this is a good win for our team and real confidence booster. We’ve been running really well lately and I hope we can keep it going.”

For Zemken, it was her fourth Empire Super Sprint victory of the 2010 racing season and her second at the half-mile this season. The race was part of the SUNY Canton series.

“I love this place,” said Zemken in Victory Lane. “Any time I can win here it feels awesome. Everyone I know is here and this is my home track. This weekend couldn’t have ended any better.”

Hebing, of Ontario, N.Y., started the feature from the front row and quickly grabbed the lead when the race got started.

Hebing controlled the race for the first five circuits before Barger was able to move into second. Once in second Barger raced down Hebing and began applying pressure for the lead.

On the ninth circuit Barger was able to drive underneath Hebing in slower traffic in turns one and two to take the top spot. The lead was short-lived however as Hebing blasted back by Barger on the outside of turns three and four on lap 11.

As Hebing and Barger battled at the front of the field, Zemken was busy making her way from the eighth starting position to the front. Like the two nights’ before, Zemken rolled the bottom lane and it paid off as she made her way into second on lap 19.

Shayne Ely brought out the caution on lap 21 when he slowed and came to a stop in turns three and four. When the race went green again the caution was immediately displayed as Hebing’s No. 45 drove off the banking in turn one and came to a stop. The right front brake caliper locked up.

This handed the lead to Zemken for the final restart of the race with Barger right behind her. Over the course of the final four laps Barger challenged her as on the outside to no avail. At the line Zemken scored her sixth career series victory and for the weekend she pocketed $7,000.

“I knew the top was starting to blow off and go away,” said Zemken. “I knew as long as I was patient, smooth, and consistent on the bottom I was going to be alright. We had such a good car at the end of that race.”

Barger, of Montrose, N.Y., came home in second for the second night in a row in his JE Pistons sponsored Maxim. He did all he could at the end but was unable to find a groove to get by Zemken.

“She (Zemken) did a great job tonight,” stated Barger. “I couldn’t run the bottom like she could. Every time I went in on the bottom I pushed up the race track. I was trying what I could do up there on the outside but it is such a long way around with the cushion being out there as far as it was.”

Although he was second, Barger was pleased with his weekend as he scored a win and a pair of second place finishes.

“I’m happy with the run tonight,” said Barger. “We are running a little bit better than we did the last couple weeks so to come out with three top two finishes is a good weekend. If we can keep it going this way we’ll be good.”

Bobby Varin finished in third but was put back two spots for jumping on a restart, this moved Brian McDonald, of Cornwall, Ont., into third. It was a career best finish for the Canadian driver at the Gene Cole owned facility.

“Usually here I’m lucky to be a 20th place car,” laughed McDonald after his third place run. “We had a good starting spot tonight and I was really able to roll the outside. We’ll take a third place finish because this is a tough place.”

Lance Yonge, of Penn Yan, N.Y., crossed the line in fourth while the Modified point leader at the speedway, Bobby Varin, earned his third career Empire Super Sprint top five as he finished with the credited fifth.

NCATS: Jason White St-Eustache report

St. Eustache, Quebec  - The third stop on the Nascar Canadian Tire series season was held at "Autodrome St. Eustache"  on Saturday  night, it was the second oval race of the year  for the series. Jason White and the A&W Racing team were very excited to try and better last years 7th place finish (a career high) on the very technical  short track.

The day started off with crew chief Bill Burns making productive adjustments to the A&W Impala throughout practice.  Jason would qualify the car in the 14th starting position for the “National 250”. “The crew worked hard in the heat all day, and the adjustments  made the car better  each time out,”  stated the British Columbia based driver. “ We expected to qualify in the top half of the field but I got a bit loose off of turn four  on my final lap.”  The top fifteen cars that qualified were separated by a mere 3/10ths of a second.

When the sun set and the green flag flew, Jason positioned the A&W Nascar in the 11th position and was comfortably hanging in on the lead lap.  Bill Burns called Jason in when John Gaunt brought out the second caution of the evening on lap 56 with a hard hit on the front straight wall. “The car started to push real bad on long runs, so we really needed that caution for some adjustments and some fresh tires,” said White. “The car came back to life when we went back to racing, but it wasn't long before our night was over.”

On lap 99 the A&W Racing teams' night came to an abrupt halt when Jason got into the marbles and lost control of the car in turn three, he slapped the wall  hard on the drivers side, ending all hopes of a solid finish. “I really hate when we work so hard to get a good car and our opportunity gets dashed away,”  said the dejected driver. "It was all my fault, I got around a slow car in turn two but entered turn three a bit high and flat out lost control of my car. It really takes the wind out of my sails when I see the team work so hard and then I make a mistake like that and end our day.” The result would be a very disappointing 18th place finish.

The team will pick up the pieces and head to the next race, “The Jumpstart 100” which will be on July 17th through the streets of Toronto.  The Nascar Canadian Tire Series will  act as a companion series to the Indy Cars during the "Honda Indy."

A&W Food Services Of Canada, is Canada's original hamburger quick service restaurant chain, and today is one of its fastest growing. The first A&W drive-in restaurant in Canada opened on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg in 1956. The combination of great tasting burgers, onion rings and frosted mugs of famous A&W Root Beer served by friendly carhops was an instant hit. Since then, A&W has continued to grow and evolve with the times, expanding into over 750 locations from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. At the heart of that growth is the fact that, while so much of our world has changed, the simple things that made A&W so popular in its early days are the same today. We still serve A&W Root Beer in frosted mugs. Our onion rings are made fresh from whole onions every day. With a rich history behind us, we look forward to an even more exciting future ahead of us. A&W is expanding all across Canada, with particular emphasis on Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic. On your way to the next NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES race, be sure to "CRUISE " into an A&W near you!!
See you at the races!!

Double Victory for Nick Wittmer at Mirabel

Mirabel (Quebec), July 4, 2010.- The Lombardi Honda Racing Team had double the pleasure during this past weekend’s Grand Prix de Mirabel as their driver Nick Wittmer, defending Canadian Touring Car champion, won both races on the program. This victory enables the Montreal driver and his team to increase the gap in the lead of the championship. In the other two Lombardi Honda Racing Honda Civic Si’s, Nigel Heron and Benjamin Distaulo each earned a "Top 5" and a "Top 6" respectively.

Qualifying second on the start line for the first race held on a beautiful summer Saturday afternoon, Nick Wittmer fought for first place during the opening laps. Shortly after the mid-way point, he took the lead on route to his second victory in three races since the start of the 2010 season. It’s an absolutely fantastic victory that I had to work hard for. It’s only at the end of the race that I could ease up a little when Mathieu Audette had his mechanical problems » explains Wittmer.

Sixth on the grid, Benjamin Distaulo had a remarkable start and found himself on the heels of his team mate Nick Wittmer when a engine problem ended his race early. The team’s disappointment was however diminished by the exceptional result of their third car, driven by Montrealer Nigel Heron. This, his first race with the team and his first time behind the wheel of a Super Touring Honda Civic Si, saw him cross the finish line in fifth place.

On Sunday, the second race of the weekend, Nick Wittmer earned yet another victory for Lombardi Honda Racing. Dominating from the start all the way to the finish and ending his weekend with his fourth victory since the start of the 2010 season. To date, no other team can boast those results.

This second Grand Prix de Mirabel race also marked an impressive showing by Benjamin Distaulo. Starting in last place, the driver from Ville Lorraine climbed his Honda Civic Si a remarkable 28 places in less than 30 minutes to finish the day in sixth place. Nigel Heron finished on Sunday in fourteenth spot.

For the team owner, Tony Lombardi, a weekend with two victories and two "Top 6" finishes is once again very positive: we’d be hard pressed to ask for more when we win the two races in which we competed ! indicates Tony Lombardi. He adds: Nick drove a fantastic race on Saturday, I’ve rarely seen such an exciting event with such a good battle amongst the leaders. On Sunday, Nick took the lead and never looked back, driving a flawless race. Regarding his two other drivers, Tony Lombardi mentions: Benjamin was unlucky on Saturday but the skill he displayed climbing back up the order on Sunday was magnificent. As for Nigel, his "Top 5" on Saturday proves that he deserves the confidence we instilled in him.

Lombardi Honda Racing will contest all rounds of the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship, which included two visits to Mosport to kick off the season before the Grand Prix in Mirabel, Toronto, and Trois -Rivières. The season ends with a third trip to Mosport at the end of August and a second visit to Mirabel in mid-September. The team receives support from the following partners : Lombardi Honda, Trim Line Montréal, Discount, Pole-Position Magazine, Distaulo Racing (Puma), Perry Auto Parts, Red Line Oil and Pneu Nicoletti. All information concerning the dealership can be accessed on the web site www.lombardihonda.com. For more information on the racing team, visit the site www.lombardiracing.com or visit the Lombardi Honda Racing page on Facebook and team videos on Youtube.

INDYCAR: Power provides fireworks at The Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Sunday, July 4, 2010) - Will Power claimed Team Penske's first IZOD IndyCar Series victory at Watkins Glen International, winning the sixth Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen.

Series points leader Power, driving the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske entry, passed his teammate Ryan Briscoe with six laps to go and held off Dario Franchitti and Briscoe for his third IZOD IndyCar Series victory of 2010.

Briscoe passed Franchitti on the final lap to help Team Penske record its first 1-2 finish since Edmonton in 2009. Brazilians Raphael Matos of de Ferran Dragon Racing and Mario Moraes of KV Racing Technology completed the top five.

In all, there were seven teams represented among the top 10 finishers in the race.

Also on July 4, French rookie J.K. Vernay strengthened his Firestone Indy Lights championship points lead with a victory in the Corning 100 at Watkins Glen International.

Vernay, driving the No. 7 Lucas Oil/CJ/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, overtook pole sitter James Hinchcliffe entering the "Bus Stop" on Lap 19 of the 3.4-mile, 11-turn circuit and went on to his third victory of the season.

Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 2 TMR-Xtreme Coil Drilling car, finished .2135 of a second behind. Sebastian Saavedra, who won at Iowa Speedway on June 20, finished third in the No. 29 William Rast/Bryan Herta Autosport car.

DAY 3 NOTEBOOK:

Andretti Autosport announced today that Team IZOD driver Ryan Hunter-Reay will run the rest of the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season after a group of team sponsors stepped up to fund the effort.

The team also unveiled a new charitable initiative connected to Hunter-Reay's No. 37 entry called "Racing For Cancer." The program, which was developed by Tom Vossman, chief executive officer of team sponsor Inland Industrial Services Group, will raise money for cancer research and other charitable causes in honor of Hunter-Reay's mother, Lydia, who lost her battle with colon cancer in November 2009.

Hunter-Reay was originally slated to run only a partial schedule with primary sponsorship from Phillips-Van Heusen and its IZOD brand, Andretti Autosport continued to seek additional funding to grow the program to fulltime status.

In addition to the efforts of Phillips-Van Heusen and its IZOD brand, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Inland, AirTran Airways, Comfort Revolution, The Michael Fux Foundation, Exel and ICM-Ethanol USA all have rallied to keep Hunter-Reay on track in 2010.

The car will continue to sport the primary sponsor scheme of Team IZOD exception for the race Aug. 28 at Chicagoland Speedway and an event to be determined, where Ethanol USA will be the primary sponsor as it was June 20 at Iowa Speedway.

Mitsubishi Brigade comes away with two class wins in toughest ever Baie des Chaleurs rally

New Richmond (July 5th, 2010) – The 45 teams entered for the 33rd Edition of the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs, 3rd round of the Canadian Rally Championship, will have to mind their wounds when they return home from their Gaspe Peninsula trip. Attrition was very high with more than half the field not crossing the final stripe after two days of sheer speed over the rocky and dusty forest roads around New-Richmond. The Mitsubishi Brigade had ten Lancers fighting in three classes and came out victorious in two of them.

Returning 2WD champions, Jan and Jody Zedril from Winnipeg took Group 2 class in flying colors and earned 10th place overall ahead of rally stalwart Sylvain Vincent, increasing their lead in the national standings. Production Sport class saw two Lancers leading the category with Jeffrey Dowell from Windsor, Ontario taking the win codriven by Yavor Klostranec and rookie Grant Ridell from Milton and Emily Dowell following two minutes behind in his first ever national rally. Dowell and Mitsubishi now lead the national standings in Production Sport.

Best overall Mitsubishi were Mathieu L’Estage and Yanick Napert with a seventh place. An absolutely outstanding performance considering Mathieu had to drive the Saturday speed stages with only his hand brake to slow his EVO V machine! Others finishers include Maxime Losier and Philippe Poirier in eighth, the lady team of Michelle Laframboise and Élise Racette in 16th. The event was won by defending Canadian champions Patrick Richard from Squamish, BC and Alan Ockwell in their Subaru even if they badly rolled their car in the last stage!

The story of the event was Antoine L’Estage and codriver Nathalie who encountered mechanical problems with their 2009 Evolution Lancer before the start of the event forcing them to swap cockpits to a back-up car. They nevertheless raced to a deserving 6th place with an underpowered car. Brother Mathieu regains the lead in the Mitsubishi Cup from Antoine.

“This must have been the toughest experience for our teams in the last three years. Still, we had seven entries finishing the event while more than half the field dropped out, showing the reliability of our products”, said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “We lead in two national categories and still have half the season to go to put a team on top of the overall standings.”

Next event profile: Rallye Défi in September
The next round of the Canadian Rally Championship will take place north of Montreal in the Laurentians with the running of the Rallye Défi on September 10 and 11. The Défi has been the September rendezvous for rally teams for more than 30 years and always draws a large field for its two-day speed fest. For more information, please visit the event web site at www.rallyedefi.com or visit our password free media website at www.mitsubishi-motors-pr.ca

Jan and Jody Zedril topped the Group 2 class and finished tenth overall in their Lancer ES. Mathieu L’Estage and codriver Yanick Napert were the best overall Mitsubishi team with a seventh place. They now lead the Mitsubishi Cup standings.

Brighton Speedway Canada Day Champions Crowned!

BRIGHTON, ON - Saturday July 3rd marked the annual Canada Day Championships presented by Brighton Automotive at the Brighton Speedway.  The evening started early as drivers and crews started early to prepare for the once a year time trial qualifying for the Bills John’s Comp 4, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified and the Vanderlaan Building Supplies.  Drivers in these four classes would all get their chance to turn two laps against the clock to try and turn the fastest lap on the night as securing Pole position in the hearts and features for the night with double points and bonus money on the line.

Time trails began at 5pm under the hot sun and the stands began to fill up for the night.  Setting the fast laps on the night were number #2 Leslie Mowat in Comp 4, #8 Gary Vandertoorn in Pro Stock, #11 Dan Ferguson in Canadian Modified and Phil Potts in the Pro Late Model Class.

First main event up was the 30 lap Pro Stock Championship and Vandertoorn used his fast lap starting position to grab the early lead however Kraig Handly   of Picton was hot on his tail and by lap 8 had worked his way under Vandertoorn for the lead.  While all this was going on back in the field #72 Doug was working his way through traffic and before long he too had got underneath Vandertoorn for the second and set his sights on Handley.

Anderson and Handley would battle it out for the rest of the race with Anderson taking the lead at the half way mark and Handley chasing closely.  A late race resd flag would bunch the field back up as Matt Schoenuer rolled his #47 Monte Carlo on the front straight away.  Matt walked away from the accident unharmed.  On the ensuing restart Handly would once again challenge Anderson for the number one spot but Anderson would have nothing of it coming home the to the checker flag followed by Handley and #45 Mike Schoenuer.

It was #11 Dan Ferguson and #4 Shawn Gregory that brought the Canadian Modifieds to the green flag for their 50 Lap double points feature.  The lead would change hands three times on the first lap before Gregory finely took the spot.  The battle was not over however as Ferguson continued to put the heat on!  On lap 15 Ferguson would get inside Gregory coming out of turn 4 and the two would drag race down the front straight and battle into corner one where they two touched and Gregory would get a flat tire out of the ordeal and have to pit.  Ferguson would then continue to lead on and now Tim Burke was starting to make ground on Ferguson.  Now well past the halfway mark in the race as Burke was now at Fergusons back bumper when bad luck would now strike Ferguson as his left rear tire went down, allowing Burke to now inherit the lead and hold on for his first win in years.  Burke was followed across the line by #69 Ed Snider and #42 Adam Nayler.

In the 50 Lap Late Model main event #29 Phil Potts was perfect on the night.  Potts won the fastest lap, won his heat and led wire to wire in the feature to earn the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week honours.  Although he led the hole race he was challenged many times by outside pole sitter #25 Greg Belyea early in the race and later on by recent feature winners #87 Andrew Hennessy and #57 Phil Potts and although they all put the heat on none of them could get the job done pass the #29.  Following Potts across the line were Sandercock and Hennessy, however Hennessy was later found with a technical infraction during post race inspection.

Brandon Gregory won his third feature event of the season in the 20 lap Comp 4 feature.  Not to be out done by the Pro Stock red flag the 24 car field of Comp 4’s wasted no time having their own stoppage when on the opening green flag a massive front straight away pile up ended with #23 Jeff Briscoe on his roof and the #95 rob Brook on top of the #04 Josh Read.  All drivers walked away OK.  On the restart Gregory working from his third place starting spot found his way around #2 Leslie Mowat and then battled with #12 of Kyle Sopaz for the remainder of the race as Sopaz tried high and low but could not get back around Gregory.  Following Gregory and Sopaz across the line for third was #32 of Terry Hough.

To top off the night of great racing action on the track, Mystical Distributing provided a fantastic fireworks show for everyone in attendance to enjoy.

Be sure to join us this week as Dekeyser Excavating presents the Southern Ontario Sprints along with the special edition Excavator Olympics!  Come out and watch these full size excavators destroy cars well competing in competition!  All this and more next Saturday, gates open at 5:30 and racing starts at 7pm!  For complete details go to www.brightonspeedway.com or email info@brightonspeedway.com

And at the end of the day, Forrest took the Morgan and Forrest dragster to the win by the slimmest of margins, recording a 7.18, 185 pass against Gray’s 7.35, 196 for a .0023 margin of victory.

“We had a great day,” said Forrest after the race. The car was good and everything worked.

“I want to thank my sponsor Precise Tool and Manufacturing, Inc., along with the crew, Doug Morgan and Allen and Chad Forrest ,” he continued. “I also want to thank my wife Jeanette and the children.”

Forrest took out Jamie Tupper of Tillsonburg, Ontario in the Top Dragster final, while Gray eliminated Tom Orr of Shawville, Quebec in the Top Sportsman final.

In the semi-finals, Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario had some problems with his 2007 Chevy Cobalt, losing to Orr on the Top Sportsman side, while last year’s Quick 32 champion, Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario, fell victim to Gray.

Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario, red-lit in his Top Dragster semi, giving Tupper the win. Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, and Forrest both did a break-out in their semi, but Forrest was declared the victor with the lowest break-out time.

Second round Top Sportsman racing saw Orr win over Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario, Gray win over Steve Parkhurst of Belleville, Ontario, Wicke take out previous series winner Darrin Grubb of Pine River, Ontario, and Hyde took his bye run.

In second round Top Dragster action, top Marydel Qualifier Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario, was bested by Tupper, Bridge advanced with a win over Bill Moloughney of Shawville, Quebec, Wildgust took out Michael Kalin of Youngstown, New York in a double-breakout match, and Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario lost to Forrest.

In first round TD racing, Steve Jones of North Gower, Ontario, lost to Hinbest, number three qualifier Melanie Simmons of Orillia, Ontario, lost to Moloughney, previous TD class winner Sam Christian of Kenmore, New York, red-lit in his race against Wildgust, as did another former winner, Paulo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario, who red-lit against Positano. Peter Hyde of Stratford, Ontario fell victim to Kalin, Forrest took out Gary Basaraba of Sudbury, Ontario, Tom Bene of Smithville, Ontario, fell victim to Tupper, and Bridge sent John Hipwell of Saint Catharines on the trailer.

On the TS side, Steve Corriveau of Fonthill, Ontario, broke out and lost against Parkhurst, Phil Sampson of Granton, Ontario, went down to Orr, previous winner Grubb took out Ben Grevers of Paris, Ontario, former series winner Dan Aitken Jr. of Belle River, Ontario lost to Martin, and Darryl McMillen of Goderich, Ontario, lost to Wicke. Both Hyde and Gray had bye rounds.

Leading the Championship Point Award Series is Wildgust with 839, with Parkhurst in second with 812 points. Third is Grubb with 811 points, and fourth is the team of Wilson and Gray with 807.

Next event in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts is during the Stratford Days at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

PMRA: Derek Hawker wins first PMRA Pro Mod race at TMP's Cayuga Dragway

CAYUGA, ON – Driving his 1963 Corvette Pro Modified, Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario won the second round in the 2010 Pro Modified Racing Association, held at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park. Hawker was scheduled to meet up with Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York in the final round, but the G-Force Race Cars 1968 Firebird broke in the semi, giving the win to Hawker.

The win was Hawker’s first in PMRA competition. The race was also Hawker’s second PMRA event, and the rookie and former Sportsman driver went to the final round at the first PMRA event in May earlier this year. He qualified seventh in the eight-car field.

“Our day was totally awesome,” said the former Top Sportsman driver. “Friday was a real thrash-fast, but we got it together,” he continued.

“I really want to not only thank my family and crew, but Atchison Racing Engines,” he added. “They are second to none.”

Terry Brown of Caledonia qualified third in the field with his 1969 Dodge Daytona, and although he won his first round, he could not make the semi-final, so Hawker had a bye run.

And while Gary Irving nipped Stawicki at the tree in the semi, the New Yorker powered by him to win the round over the Al Hinds 2004 Corvette driven by Irving of Toronto, Ontario. Stawicki ran a 5.936, 252.47 with a .106 reaction time, while Irving posted a 6.209, 227.69 pass with a .044 reaction time.

In first round action, Hawker cruised to a win over three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario. Boland and his new Corvette had qualified well in second but his car was sliding around during the run and he had to back off. Brown eliminated Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario, who made the show as first alternate when fourth-seeded Eric Latino of Port Perry, Ontario could not make the show.

Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario suffered handling woes with his 1969 Chevy Nova after qualifying well in fourth, losing to Irving, and former Alcohol Funny Car driver, number eight qualifier Paul Noakes of London, Ontario, tried in vain to catch Stawicki in the Tim Martin-based Corvette.

Stawicki led the Marydel Homes Qualifying session with a record-setting 5.803, 255.25 pass, and a new benchmark for the Pro Modified class on Canadian soil. These numbers shatter the previous PMRA quarter-mile records. The previous time, set by Stawicki himself at Cayuga in September of 2008, was 6.049 seconds, while Mark Nielsen of Brantford, Ontario, held the top speed record of 237.30 mph, also recorded in September 2008 at Cayuga.

With his win, Hawker leads the PMRA Championship Award Series presented by Magnum Auto Parts and Patio Passport with 591, followed by Latino with 573. Third is Stawicki with 572 points, Brown is next with 553 points, and Andreacchi is fifth with 546.

Next event in the 2010 PMRA season is at the IHRA MOPAR Nitro Jam Nationals July 16-18 at the Grand Bend Motorplex.

Brockville Ontario Speedway: Pat O'Brien won on Saturday night

BROCKVILLE, ON - It took the warmest temperatures of 2010 to bring the Iceman back to the front of the field at Brockville Ontario Speedway.  Kingston veteran Pat O'Brien expanded his lead atop the 358 Modified point standings with his first win of the season on Saturday night.

O Brien didn't take long to work his way through early traffic to take the lead of the 30 lap event.   The patient and calculating style of the veteran was a perfect fit for a tricky race track on this night as he outdistanced early leader Bobby Herrington for the victory.  Danny O Brien was third in front of Tim O Brien and Stephane LaFrance.

Chris Raabe scored win number 5 of the season but not without a fight from Chris Herbison.  Raabe was on the gas early coming from deep in the field, before getting past a very impressive Kenny Polite for the top spot on a restart.   Herbison gave the Napanee youngster everything he could handle before settling for second followed by Dylan Evoy, Polite and a late charging Randy Earl.

Kevin Fetterly is the new driver to beat in the Street Stocks.  Fetterly made it three straight holding off Brock Cullen in the closing laps.  Nick Gauvreau, Brian Billings and Steve Kearney rounded out the fast five.  Jean Marc Larose had to contend with the biggest field of the season in the Rookie division as 19 cars took the green, but the result stayed the same with the 003 back in victory lane.   John Gifford came home second with Ron Day in a brand new machine in third followed by Joe Mc Nichols and Steve Laplante.  Wayne Riddell also managed to fend off a late challenge for Vintage honours over Jeff Ciglich, John Gibson, Steve Arbuthnot and Jason Powers.

Wittmer Victorious in Feature Race at Gran Prix of Mirabel

(Mirabel, Quebec – July 4th, 2010) – As the green flag dropped on the 33 car field, Montreal native, Nick Wittmer took charge of Sunday’s ‘red flag’ shortened, 13-lap Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires feature race early at the Gran Prix of Mirabel.

Posting a win in the Saturday heat race, Wittmer wasted little time vaulting his Lombardi Honda Civic Si Sedan into an early lead. Right from the start Wittmer opened up a substantial lead on the pack and really never had to look back.

Starting from the outside of the front row, Greg Pootmans, Aldo/Northwest BMW suffered an unexpected mechanical failure and came to a halt on the very first pace lap unable to continue to the green flag charge which looked like it was going to be a great battle between the two rivals.
Eric Hochgeschurz, starting in the number four spot, was the lucky recipient of Pootmans misfortune as he was able to grab and hold onto second spot with Marc-Antoine Camirand hot on his heels. Unfortunately Camirands hopes of a podium finish were dashed when his BMW Coupe suffered a mechanical failure on lap 10, putting him down to 32nd spot in the finishing order. This allowed the ever fast Mathieu Audette piloting his Audette Racing RSX, to round out the third step on the podium just 4.33 seconds behind Hochgeschurz.

In the extremely competitive Touring class, Durabond/Compass360 Racing’s Karl Thomson took the victory behind the wheel of his Honda Civic Si, by a margin of 5.63 seconds over his team mate Anthony Rapone. Roxton Pond native, Michel Sallenbach driving for Octane Motorsports, rounded out the third spot on the podium just a mere 1.2 seconds back of Rapone.

“This is the 13th podium for Durabond/Compass360 Racing this year and our team is doing a fantastic job keeping us on the podium,” Thomson said. Thomson was also the lucky recipient of the NOS Energy Drink Fastest Lap Award for the Touring class with a 1.35.888 and Super Touring class and overall race winner, Nick Wittmer took home the honours with a 1:31.737 lap.
Officials had to call the race due to a serious incident involving Gary Kwok in his #66 M&S Racing Mistubishi EVO. As he entered the front straight, Kwoks car impacted the outside wall and became airborne coming to rest on its roof in the middle of the track.

The ICAR Track Rescue team were on the scene immediately and assisted the unhurt but shaken Kwok from his car. With only 4 minutes remaining in the race, officials decided it would take too long to clean up the track with enough time to resume racing.

PAT RICHARD FLIRTS WITH DISASTER TO WIN RALLYE BAIE DES CHALEURS

NEW RICHMOND, QUEBEC, July 3, 2010 – Pat Richard (Squamish, BC) and Alan Ockwell (Toronto) of Subaru Rally Team Canada won the 2010 Rallye Baie des Chaleurs in a total time of two hours, zero minutes and 30 seconds after narrowly avoiding disaster on the final stage. The New Richmond based Rallye Baie des Chaleurs is the third round of the Canadian Rally Championship, presented by Subaru and supported by Yokohama.

Attrition struck competitors hard, with more than half of the field failing to finish the rally. Known for its long and demanding stages, Rallye Baie des Chaleurs is hard on cars and crews alike. Those teams lucky enough to finish the event often do so while sustaining damage to their cars, making survival a key part of any winning strategy.

Although two crashes delayed the start of the final stage, conditions for the 2010 Rallye Baie des Chaleurs were good. Clear skies and warm temperatures meant that thousands of spectators were able to enjoy the thrilling live action of rally car racing.

"It was a great event," said Stephane Roussel, organiser of the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs. "The long stage roads at Rallye Baie des Chaleurs add to the event and keep things interesting."
"I got caught out, it was pretty embarrassing," said defending Canadian rally champion Richard, who rolled his car five kilometers from the finish of the last stage while leading the event. "A win is a win, and this is really important for the championship, so for that I am happy."

Richard had driven a near perfect rally to that point, and had built what appeared to be a secure lead. Landing back on their wheels after the roll, the team sprinted for the finish. The pair crossed the finish line, a large jump surrounded by spectators, with a smashed windshield and hood and flames flashing out from the engine bay.

Young talent Leo Urlichich (Thornhill, ON) and Christine Beavis (San Diego) were one of the few teams to avoid trouble, driving a clean event to a secure second place finish, his first national podium finish.
"Everyone told me I couldn't throw away my position," said an ecstatic Urlichich, who is proving his early nickname of "Crazy" Leo no longer applies. "The last stage is probably the best in North America. It has a bit of everything."

Bruno Carré and Yvan Joyal (Laval, QC), current Canadian Rally Championship leaders, kept a ten point lead in the championship with a third place finish while title rivals struggled with problems throughout the rally.

"The car was perfect for the last two stages," said Carré, who clipped a bridge early on the second day of action, narrowly avoiding being knocked out of the rally. Carré has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, but his consistency this season has combined with misfortune for other teams, showing the importance of staying clean and finishing an event are as critical to success as outright speed.

"It is good to be leading the championship, but there are still three events left, and I think Pat Richard and Antoine L'Estage will show us why they have both won championships."
Brothers Jan and Jody Zedril (Winnipeg) took the top spot in two wheel drive after a heated battle with three other competitors. Separated by less than 30 seconds after the first day of action, all four teams attacked on Saturday. Two teams were knocked out of the rally as conditions took their toll. The Zedrils were left to battle with veteran driver Sylvain Vincent and co-driver Simon Vincent. Eventually, the Zedrils found a winning rhythm and carved out a lead of over one minute heading into the finish.

"All afternoon we were both in it," said co-driver Jody Zedril, after the team had trouble gelling earlier in the event. "This has been the best two wheel drive entry we've seen since we started rallying in Canada back in 2007."

Championship contenders Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard (Ste-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC) endured a punishing start to the rally. Shortly before technical inspection, their car broke down, and was unable to be repaired for competition. Luckily, the team was able to borrow a spare car brought by Leo Urlichich. The team battled both the field and a few ongoing problems with the car, eventually finishing sixth.

"The last stage we finally had a good run, and I drove like mad," said L'Estage. "Unfortunately, it was not enough to make up for the time already lost. I have to thank Leo though. Without him, we would not even have been able to run at all."

The championship battle moves into the mountains north of Montreal, Quebec for the Rallye Defi. Rough and technical roads help the rally live up to its name, French for challenge.
The Canadian Rally Championship is comprised of six events held nationwide in a season that extends from February to November. The series is presented by Subaru Canada, supported by Yokohama Tire Canada and features contingency programs from Subaru Canada and Mitsubishi Canada. The Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS) is the official sanctioning body for rallying in Canada.

Rally car racing is often described simply as "real cars, real roads, real fast." The all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over closed-road courses that typically cover more than 150 kilometers of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads. Fans can get up close to the cars in the service areas and catch all the action from specially designated spectator points located at the best spots on the route.

Full coverage of the championship will air on RDS and TSN. Check local listings.
